Hyderabad: Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde presented a special award to Green India Challenge founder and former BRS Rajya Sabha member Joginapally Santosh Kumar for planting and inspiring the highest number of saplings in the country during his tenure at the Green Idol Award ceremony held at Sri Kalpataru Sansthan in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Santosh Kumar explained that the Haritha Haram programme undertaken by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao during his tenure was the inspiration for the Green India Challenge he undertook. The Haritha Haram initiative undertaken by Chandrashekhar Rao contributed to the growth of trees and greenery for the people of all sections of Telangana, and as a result, the green cover in the State increased, he informed.
Steps should be taken to increase the interest of students and children in the importance of the environment, including environmental aspects in their curriculum, and to provide them with field-level programmes, he said, adding that activities suitable for the benefit of the environment should be made a part of the daily lives of children.
Later, the Rajasthan Governor inaugurated the Green Bachupan Champion program. Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungatiwaru, Tree Man of India Vishnu Lamba and others participated in the program. Several organizations and environmentalists working for the environment were honored in the program.
