Gaza death toll jumps to 37,626

The ministry added that another 86,098 people have been wounded in more than eight months of relentless Israeli attacks.

Israel waged its brutal war on besieged Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out an unprecedented operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

New Delhi: Civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an advisory to airports and airlines to increase the number of women employees in their organisations to ensure more gender equality in the aviation sector.

“With this move, the DGCA aims to increase the number of women in various positions to a desirable representation of 25 per cent by 2025 within the aviation industry in India,” the circular states.

The circular, titled ‘Gender Equality in Civil Aviation Sector’, has been issued keeping in mind the principle of gender equality that is enshrined in the Constitution of India and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) vision for promoting equal opportunities in the aviation sector.

The regulator suggested that the airports and airlines should publish the vacant positions on various forums, explicitly encouraging applications from female candidates and drafting positions with precise information on flexible working conditions in their organisations.

“The stakeholders are advised to promote enhanced representation of women in the aviation workforce, introduce leadership and mentorship programs for women in the organisation, address the issue of stereotypes and gender bias and promote a better work-life balance for women employees,” the circular states.

It has also directed the stakeholders to improve their policies and practices to ensure gender equality in the workplace. Airlines and airports have been asked to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and formulate HR policies to achieve this goal.

They have also been asked to diversify the work profiles of women employees, highlighting women role models and other facilitative steps that promote a gender-inclusive work culture.

The organisations should also develop suitable programmes to hire women back if they have taken a break due to parenting needs “or other attendant life cycle issues”.

"Tough To…": Rohit After Guiding India To 1st T20 WC Final In 10 Years

India ended a 10-year wait early on Friday morning with a commanding 68-run win over England in the semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. For the first time since the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, India will be playing in the final of the marquee event. In a rain-affected match, on a slow pitch, batting first was going to be a tricky but Rohit Sharma‘s men rose up to the challenge.

Suryakumar Yadav (47) and Rohit Sharma (57) led the charge as India posted a tough 172-run target. In reply, England were all out for just 103.

After the win, Rohit Sharma opened about how they win the semi-final.

“Very satisfying to win. Worked very hard as a unit and it was a great effort from all. We adapted really well, conditions were challenging. That’s been the success story for us so far. If bowlers and batters adapt, things fall in place,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“At one stage, 140-150 looked par. But we got runs in the middle, SKY and I were going and thought we can get 20-25 more. 175 was a very good score, bowlers were fantastic. Axar, Kuldeep are gun spinners. Tough to play shots against them in these conditions. They were calm under pressure. We had a chat after the first innings, message was to keep stumps in play. That’s what they did. I can set the target in my mind, but I don’t want to let anyone know about it, to the batters. They are all instinctive players. I thought 170 was a very good surface.”

India flaunted their superabundance of talent in a display of absolute dominance to storm into the final of the T20 World Cup with a 68-run shellacking of England in their semi-final on Thursday.

Leading the charge once again was their inspirational skipper Rohit Sharma, who laid the foundation with an aggressive 57 off 39 balls, and the captain was well-supported by Suryakumar Yadav (47 off 36), as India posted 171 for seven after being asked to bat first in the rain-hit match.

In reply, England were bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs as India set up a title clash with first-timers South Africa in Barbados on Saturday. This is India’s third entry into the final of the tournament.

Euro 2024: Fullkrug equalizes to keep Germany on top

Berlin: Niclas Fullkrug’s late goal helped hosts Germany tie Switzerland 1-1 and advance to the Euro 2024 round of 16 top as Group A winners.

Germany had already been through after having snatched two wins in as many games and was needed just one point to clinch the group win.

The tournament host started on the front foot as Kai Havertz tested Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer early on with a dangerous header on target.

Julian Nagelsmann’s boys thought they had opened the scoring with 17 minutes played, but Robert Andrich’s long-range goal was ruled out due to a foregone foul play.

Switzerland then opened the scoring out of thin air at the half hour mark as Remo Freuler crossed into the path of Dan Ndoye, who volleyed the ball past Germany goalie Manuel Neuer at the near post.

Ndoye should have doubled Switzerland’s advantage moments later but for all that the striker narrowly missed the target from 16 meters.

After the restart, Germany took over and pressed the Nati onto the back foot as Florian Wirtz and Toni Kroos tested Sommer with long-range efforts.

Switzerland caught Germany flat-footed on a fast break in the 84th minute, but Ruben Vargas’ goal was ruled offside. Granit Xhaka created another promising chance but Neuer palmed away his hammer.

Germany kept it bowling and was rewarded in the dying minutes of the clash as Fullkrug jumped high to nod home David Raum’s cross into the area. Both players came off the bench and paved the way for Germany’s Group A win.

“It wasn’t easy today. You cannot underestimate the Swiss. We conceded a goal against the run of the game, but we scored late to win the group,” said Germany captain Ilkay Gundogan.

“It’s annoying to swallow a late equalizer. We defended well though and staged a brave performance,” said Switzerland goalkeeper Sommer.

In the other Group A encounter, Hungary reaped a late victory over Scotland as Kevin Csoboth’s sole goal was enough to seal all three points against the Bravehearts who are now eliminated from the tournament.

With the results, Germany completes its group stage atop the standings with 7 points followed by Switzerland (5 points), Hungary (3 points) and Scotland (1 point).

The top two of each of the six groups and the best four third finishers will enter the round-of-16 knockout stage.

New Delhi: Indian tech professionals have secured a median salary hike of 150 per cent and 110 per cent, respectively in the last two years post-skilling, a new report showed on Thursday.

According to the tech education company Scaler, the increase in average salary hike reflects the continuing demand for skilled professionals in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

As per data assessed by B2K Analytics, the agency that audits IIM-Ahmedabad’s placement reports disclosed that the top 25 per cent of software development programme learners secured an average package of Rs 48 Lakh Per Annum (LPA), while the middle 80 per cent received an average package of Rs 25 LPA.

“The findings of this placement report underscore the tangible benefits of upskilling in enhancing career prospects and meeting industry demands,” said Anshuman Singh, Co-founder of Scaler and InterviewBit.

Amid War, Israeli Anti-Government Protesters March On Netanyahu's Home

Amid War, Israeli Anti-Government Protesters March On Netanyahu's Home

Anti-government protesters gathered in Jerusalem on Thursday and called for Netanyahu’s resignation.

Jerusalem:

Anti-government protesters gathered in Jerusalem on Thursday and converged on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home, lighting a bonfire on the street outside and calling for his resignation.

“We’ve been abandoned – Elections now!” read one sign that rose above the crowd. Demonstrators yelled through megaphones, waved flags and banged on snare drums while police officers stood at barricades.

Such demonstrations have grown more frequent as the war against Hamas in Gaza rages on and fighting with Hezbollah in Lebanon threatens to escalate, but they have not reached the fever pitch of a year ago when Netanyahu’s government tried to overhaul Israel’s justice system.

Many in the crowd, which appeared to number in the thousands, also chanted their support for reaching a deal to free some 120 Israeli hostages being held by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Gaza.

As the sun began to set, protesters blocked traffic and lit a large bonfire on the central Jerusalem street. But there were no reports of major scuffles and police did not use a water cannon to control the crowd, as they have during more rowdy demonstrations.

The protest movement has yet to change the political landscape, and Netanyahu still controls a stable majority in parliament.
