Apple Identifies Issues Causing Overheating In iPhone 15

The upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not reduce performance to address the iPhone’s temperature

Washington:

Apple on Saturday said it has identified a few issues that can cause new iPhones to run warmer than expected, including a bug in the iOS 17 software which will be fixed in an upcoming update.

After complaints that the new phones are getting very warm, Apple has said that the device may feel warmer in the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.”

“Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system,” Apple said, adding that it is working with app developers on fixes that are in the process of being rolled out.

The third-party apps causing the issue include the game Asphalt 9; Meta’s Instagram; and Uber, according to the company. Instagram already fixed the issue with its app on Sept. 27.

The upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not reduce performance to address the iPhone’s temperature.

The Cupertino, California-headquartered company said that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not suffer from overheating due to the design, rather the new titanium shells result in improved heat dissipation compared to prior stainless steel models.

Apple also said the issue is not a safety or injury risk, and will not impact the phone’s long-term performance.

States Have To Act On Commission's Decision: P Chidambaram On Cauvery Row

Cauvery Water Row: Congress MP P Chidambaram said he can press the demands of Tamil Nadu (File)

Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu):

Amid the tussle over the Cauvery water-sharing issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Congress MP P Chidambaram on Saturday said there is a commission to judge the issue and both states have to act on the Commission’s decision.

“I am a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, so I can press the demands of Tamil Nadu, and the members of Parliament from Karnataka will also press the demands of Karnataka. There is a commission to judge this issue. Both states have to act on the Commission’s decision,” Mr Chidambaram said.

The governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been locked in a protracted tussle over the sharing of Cauvery waters. The river is seen as a major source of sustenance for the people in either state.

The CWRC had ordered Karnataka to ensure the release of 3000 cusecs of Cauvery water at Biligundlu starting from September 28 till October 15, 2023. Earlier, the amount of water to be released was 5000 cusecs.

Karnataka has cited a severe drought in parts of its state to refuse the supply of water to Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has accused its neighbour of lying to the nation about the supply of water.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the state government will file a review petition before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and the Supreme Court on September 30, as the state does not have water and so cannot release it.

Meanwhile, Farmers across Karnataka have been protesting since the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) ordered the state to release 5000 cusecs of water to its neighbouring state Tamil Nadu, for 15 days, effective from September 13.

The Naam Tamilar Katchi Party held protests in Madurai on Saturday, condemning the Congress-led Karnataka government over the Cauvery River water-sharing issue.

NTK Party youth wing secretary Sattai Durai Murugan said, “They are refusing to give Cauvery water as ordered by the court. If the Karnataka government does not release water to Tamil Nadu, a huge protest will be held under the leadership of the Naam Tamilar Katchi Party.”The governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been locked in a protracted tussle over the sharing of Cauvery waters. The river is seen as a major source of sustenance for the people in either state.

The Supreme Court bench refused to interfere with the order of Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to Karnataka on releasing 5,000 cusecs of water every day for now to Tamil Nadu.

The opposition Congress on Saturday accused the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala of providing “political protection” to the H D Deva Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular), which recently entered into an alliance with the BJP-led NDA.

Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition Congress on Saturday accused the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala of providing “political protection” to the H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular), which recently entered into an alliance with the BJP-led NDA.

Targeting the Marxist party for not ousting the Karnataka-based party from the ruling front, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheesan alleged it was the CPI(M) that ensured the position of the NDA ally in the LDF by giving it all political protection.

The minister of the JD(S), which is part of the BJP alliance at the national level, attended the state cabinet meeting held here the other day, he said in a statement.

Taking a dig at the ruling front, the LoP further said that a coalition of the NDA-LDF is ruling the southern state at present.

“It is mysterious that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the LDF leadership remain silent even a week after the announcement of the JD(S) joining the BJP-led NDA,” he said.

Satheesan urged the CM and the CPI(M) leadership to clarify under what circumstances the JD (S), an ally of the NDA, is still continuing in the LDF and the cabinet.

He said the Gowda-led party should be expelled from the LDF if there is any sincerity in their anti-Sangh Parivar stance.

The LoP, in the statement, also said Left party leaders should talk about their anti-Sangh stance only after expelling the JD (S) which has joined hands with the BJP. The former PM Gowda-led party had recently announced that it would ally with the BJP, following a meeting of its leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda.

Panchayat training institute in Gujarat”s Gandhinagar to be named for PM Modi

Ahmedabad: A training institute under the Gujarat State Panchayat Parishad in Gandhinagar will be named for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an official said on Saturday.

Bharat Gajipara, secretary of Gujarat State Panchayat Parishad, said the Panchayat Talim Kendra (panchayat training centre) will be renamed as ‘Narendra Modi Panchayati Raj Evam Gramin Vikas Sansthan’.

“The executive committee of the Parishad has accepted the new name associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Gajipara said.

The building, called Balwant Rai Mehta Panchayat Bhavan (after the second chief minister of Gujarat who is considered the architect of Panchayati Raj), was inaugurated by then prime minister Indira Gandhi, and the institute remained under the control of Congress until 1995, he said.

The Congress had informally rechristened the building as ‘Indira Gandhi Talim Bhavan’, Gajipara said.

“Now that PM Modi is giving so much funds for the development of panchayats and has taken many other decisions, we decided to name it after him. It is not a political proposal but a collective decision. Moreover, naming it after a towering personality will help remove administrative hurdles regarding getting funds from the government etc,” he added.

Mona Kandhar, principal secretary of the state Panchayats, Rural Housing & Rural Development Department, said a budget of Rs 35 crore has been approved for renovation and extension of the building that will be used to train panchayat department employees along with elected representatives.

The Gujarat State Pradesh Panchayat Parishad was registered as a society under the Societies registration Act, in 1965 with the aim of protecting the interest of the panchayats in the state and enabling  them to function as institutions of local self government. District, taluka and village panchayats are its members.

India came up with a solid performance as they hammered arch-rivals Pakistan 3-0 to win the SAFF Men’s U-19 Championship in Kathmandu on Saturday. Manglenthang Kipgen (64′, 85′) and Gwgwmsar Goyary (90 5′) found the back of the net for the Blue Colts at the Dashrath Stadium. It was India’s eighth youth title in the SAFF championships, a clear testimony of their regional supremacy. Substitute Kipgen once again emerged as the hero for the Indians. Following his nerve-wracking winning penalty strike against hosts Nepal in the semi-final on Wednesday, Kipgen continued to shine as he scored the first two goals to literally slam the doors on Pakistan’s ambitions.

Kipgen had a role to play in the third goal, too, as his clever chip resulted in Goyary scoring the third goal in the add-on time.

The India youngster’s impactful presence came to life when he came on as a substitute for Ebindas Yesudasan at the commencement of the second half, with the score still locked at 0-0.

However, it didn’t prevent him from leaving an indelible mark on the match.

What also made this achievement all the more remarkable is that for the vast majority of the Indian squad, this SAFF U-19 Championship marked their first international tournament representing their nation.

Case Against Imran Khan's Lawyer After Fistfight During Live TV Debate

The video showed the two having a heated argument in which both resorted to using abusive language

Islamabad:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senator Afnan Ullah Khan got an FIR filed against the former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s lawyer, Sher Afzal Khan, for allegedly assaulting him on a live media show, Dawn News reported on Saturday.

The Pakistan-based news daily reported that the FIR was registered at the Aabpara police station on Friday under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Dawn News reported that the PML-N senator stated in the FIR, “During the heated debate, Sher Afzal Marwat suddenly attacked me and tried to hit me and also threatened that I will face the consequences and he will not spare me and gave life threats.”

Sher Afzal Khan Marwat and Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) Senator Afnan Ullah Khan were recently involved in a fight on a television channel, Geo News reported.

The incident was confirmed by both the leaders and has been shared by the senator on microblogging website X – formerly known as Twitter.

The video showed the two having a heated argument in which both resorted to using abusive language. Marwat then suddenly attacked the senator. At first, both pushed each other. They eventually resorted to slaps and started punching each other.

Finally, the TV show’s crew intervened and separated the politicians.

Taking to X,  Afnan Ullah said Mr Marwat attacked him, adding that he does not believe in violence but is a “soldier of Nawaz Sharif”.

“The beating that I gave to Marwat is an important lesson for all PTI and especially Imran Khan. They will not be able to show their face to anyone and will be forced to wear big dark sunglasses,” the senator said, as per Geo News.

Sher Ali Khan Marwat in a post said the TV show host was “spreading misinformation” about the “unpleasant incident”.

“He is spreading rumours that my opponent was a superman. He is not telling the reality which is that Afnan Ullah ran away from the studio and took shelter in a nearby room, which I came to know after watching his programme today,” Mr Marwat said.

He added that he plans to “initiate a defamation case and criminal complaint” against the senator.

This was not the first time that such an incident had taken place on a live television show.

In 2021, former PPP lawmaker Abdul Qadir Mandokhel and then-PTI leader Firdous Ashiq Awan, who has now joined the Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), got into a fight during a live show.

In a viral video of the incident, the two could be seen getting into a heated verbal exchange on a television show.

In a verbal duel during the show, Abdul Qadir Mandokhel accused Ashiq Awan of indulging in corruption.

The ruling RJD in Bihar on Saturday drew flak over comments of a top leader, who had said the Women’s Reservation Bill in its current form would benefit only those wearing “lipstick” and sporting a “bob cut” hairstyle.

Patna: The ruling RJD in Bihar on Saturday drew flak over comments of a top leader, who had said the Women’s Reservation Bill in its current form would benefit only those wearing “lipstick” and sporting a “bob cut” hairstyle.

The remarks came from Abdul Bari Siddiqui, a close aide of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister of Bihar.

Siddiqui, who is RJD’s principal national general secretary, made the comments at a function in Muzaffarpur, organised by the party’s cell for extremely backward classes.

In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, Siddiqui can be heard making the remarks while stressing on the need for sub-quotas for women of weaker sections of the society.

The statement triggered outrage, especially from the BJP, which is in opposition in the state and hopes to cash in on the Women’s Reservation Bill brought by its government at the Centre.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said Siddiqui’s remarks “against women, sisters and daughters of the country” were “shameful, disgraceful, condemnable and shocking”.

He alleged that the RJD stood only for helping Lalu Prasad and his family remain in power, a reason why it “did nothing” for women’s empowerment in Bihar, or at the Centre when it was an alliance partner of the Congress-led UPA government.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which is RJD’s ally, said it was on the same page with Siddiqui in seeking reservation for OBC and EBC women, but did not support mentions made about the “lipstick” and hairstyle.

JD(U) MLC Khalid Anwar said: “Women should be able to make their own choice in dress, make-up and hairstyle. We do not know the context in which a senior leader like Siddiqui Sahib made the remarks, but we cannot appreciate any utterance that goes against women’s freedom”.

Meanwhile, Siddiqui, who is also a former state minister, told reporters “it was never my intention to insult women who carried themselves in a particular fashion. I request that my remarks not be seen out of context”.

“The function where I spoke was attended by a large number of rural women, most of whom were uneducated. I was explaining to them in an idiom they could understand,” he added.
