Russia has slammed the terrorist attacks in Syria as a violation of the Arab country’s sovereignty.=

On Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the terrorist onslaught as “an attack on Syria’s sovereignty.”

He expressed hope that Damascus would swiftly restore the situation. “We would like the Syrian authorities to restore order there as soon as possible,” RT quoted him as saying.

On Wednesday, Takfiri militants led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a large-scale attack in Aleppo and Idlib provinces in the northwest of the country, seizing several areas.

On Friday, the Arabic-language Al-Mayadeen television network reported the Syrian army halted the advance of terrorists in southeastern Idlib and launched a counterattack to regain ground.

According to al-Mayadeen, fierce battles were ongoing in western Aleppo.

Four large-scale offensives launched from the city of Anadan, north of Aleppo, were also foiled on Thursday.

Russian and Syrian warplanes bombed militant-held areas in northwest Syria near the border with Turkey on Thursday to push back the militant offensive.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since 2011 with Damascus blaming the Western countries and their regional allies for aiding the terrorist groups.

Russia, alongside Iran, has assisted Syrian forces in battles across the conflict-plagued country, mainly by providing aerial support to ground operations against foreign-backed terrorists.
