Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks in a Sunday phone call with Ismail Haniyeh, who serves as politburo chief of the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas.
He said Iran’s overnight missile and drone attacks that targeted deep inside the Israeli-occupied territories crushed the myth of invincibility that has surrounded the Israeli regime since world wars.
“… this decisive and crushing move of defense broke up the fake grandeur of the Zionists and exposed the world’s latecomer crusaders,” he said while likening Israel and its Western supporters to Crusaders who sought to take control of the Holy Land more than 10 centuries ago.
Iran’s attacks against Israel came nearly two weeks after the regime carried out an airstrike on an Iranian diplomatic mission in Syria.
Iran had vowed to respond firmly to the attack which killed senior commanders of the elite IRGC military force stationed in Syria.
Velayati’s conversation with Haniyeh comes as Hamas is still fighting a brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza that has killed more than 33,500 people since it started in early October.
