"This Franchise Is Different": Shivam Dube Sums Up What Makes CSK Unique

Following his side’s win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube expressed that the Yellow franchise is different from all others and has given him freedom in his gameplay. The fortress at Chepauk stood untouched as the Chennai Super Kings registered a comprehensive 63-run win over the Gujarat Titans on Monday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Following the match, Dube said in the post-match presentation, “This franchise is something different from all others. They are giving me freedom. They want me to do better and I also want to win some matches. I have worked that way (hitting short balls). It is helping me. I know they will bowl me some short balls and I am ready for that. They want me to do the same thing I did today (his role). They want me to score with a higher strike-rate and that is what I am doing.”

In the IPL 2024 so far, Dube has scored 85 runs in two innings at an average of 85.00 and a strike rate of 166.66, with the best score of 51.

Since joining CSK in 2022, Dube’s fortunes have turned around for the better. In 29 matches for CSK, he has scored 792 runs at an average of 36.00, with six half-centuries in 27 innings and a strike rate of 158.40.

His last season with the Yellow franchise was his best IPL season ever, playing a crucial role in the team’s record-equalling fifth-title win. In 16 matches and 14 innings, at an average of 38.00, Dube managed 418 runs at a strike rate of 158.33, with three half-centuries. His best score was 52. He was the 13th-highest run-getter that season.

Shivam’s numbers with CSK contrast heavily with his average to just decent numbers for Royal Challengers Bangalore (2019-21) and Rajasthan Royals (2021). In 15 matches for RCB, he scored just 169 runs at an average of 16.90 and a strike rate of 122.46, with the best score of 27*. He also took four wickets.

In nine matches for RR, Dube made 230 runs at an average of 28.75 and a strike rate of 119.17, with 64* as his solitary fifty.

His performances for CSK earned him an Indian team call-up for the first time after 2020 and in eight matches and five innings for Team India, he went on to score 171 runs at an average of 171.00, with two fifties and also take three wickets. With the ICC T20 World Cup around the corner, Dube is surely putting selectors on notice with his performances, for a spot as an extra all-rounder to pace-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Coming into the match, GT put CSK to bat first. Fiery knocks from Rachin Ravindra (46 in 20 balls, with six fours and three sixes), skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 in 36 balls, with five fours and a six) and Dube (51 in 23 balls, with two fours and five sixes) took CSK to 206/6 in 20 overs.

Rashid Khan (2/49) and Spencer Johnson (1/35) were among the picks of the bowlers for GT.

In the run-chase, GT kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sai Sudarshan (37 in 31 balls, with three fours), Wriddhiman Saha (21 in 17 balls, with four boundaries) and David Miller (21 in 16 balls, with three fours) tried to put up a fight, but it was just not enough. GT were restricted to 143/8 and lost by 63 runs.

Tushar Deshpande (2/21), Deepak Chahar (2/28) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/30) were the top bowlers for CSK.

Dube took home the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Trump In Court, Biden In Kitchen: The Unique Campaigns For 2024 US Elections

Washington:

Though the candidates are the same as last time, the 2024 US presidential election promises to be unique in other ways — pitting two men facing challenges unprecedented in the 235-year history of US democracy.

Joe Biden was already fending off misgivings about his advanced years in 2020, but America’s oldest-ever president will have four more candles on his birthday cake this November.

And Donald Trump, who was facing scrutiny during the last election over his conduct before and during his term in office, now has four criminal indictments to his name — unprecedented for a US president.

There isn’t much 81-year-old Biden can do about his age, except crack the occasional joke and point out that his opponent is less than four years younger.

But Trump has tried to leverage his legal woes — treating his court appearances as if they were campaign rallies, complete with defiant, grievance-laden speeches before the media and cheering fans.

Fist raised

The speeches themselves aren’t exactly presidential — it’s hard to imagine Abraham Lincoln lashing out at judges or smearing political opponents as “Marxist thugs” — but Trump’s loyal base enjoys his proclivity for incendiary rhetoric and personal grievance.

They are likely to see more of it, with jury selection beginning April 15 in Trump’s trial for campaign finance violations in New York.

“He likes to be able to play the role of a victim,” says Todd Belt, a politics professor at George Washington University.

The strategy comes at a price. Trump has been buried under legal costs stretching into the hundreds of millions of dollars — bills that he finances, in part, via campaign funds.

“It also takes him away from being able to do his MAGA rallies, get out among the people,” says Belt.

The contest is not set in stone until the parties’ nominating conventions this summer, but since the rematch became all-but-inevitable weeks ago, Trump has held just one of his signature rallies, in Ohio.

His step back is unusual for a showman who — despite his own many verbal slip-ups — enjoys putting on a stiff gait and pretending to be confused as he mocks Biden, delighting supporters in packed arenas.

Trump has long denigrated his rival as “Sleepy Joe,” but Team Biden has been returning the compliment lately, cheekily appropriating a Trumpism to decry “Low Energy Don.”

‘Human connection’

Like Trump, Biden’s age could be a major obstacle as he digs deep to inspire passion in voters over what is set to be one of the most longest, most arduous campaigns in history.

But he has surrounded himself with aides who play to his strengths.

The Democrat has been blitzing the all-important swing states during a recent campaign schedule that has taken in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania.

He has eschewed the stadiums that Trump likes in favor of smaller gatherings, sometimes away from the television cameras, or low-key visits to small businesses — a barber shop with an African-American clientele, a Mexican restaurant.

He will take part in chats around the kitchen table — set-piece events carefully stage-managed by aides who send out flattering videos after the fact rather than allowing in journalists.

Biden, hunched over a hamburger and milkshake, will talk about student debt with a group of undergraduates or comfort a youngster suffering from his own childhood affliction, a bad stutter.

Avoiding interviews with the national press, Biden prefers short exchanges with local or community-based media, and seldom holds news conferences.

“Part of what makes President Biden a successful president is that he has that human connection with people. And that’s different from Trump’s mega rallies,” said Ben Wikler, Democratic Party chief in the swing state of Wisconsin.

In recent weeks, Biden has begun to regain ground in some polls.

With its coffers well-stocked, the Democrat’s campaign is stepping up its TV ad buy and banking on a targeted approach.

But Biden’s most loyal backers acknowledge that he needs to embrace the media spotlight if he is to reassure voters of his stamina and exuberance.

“They also know that he needs to be out there to overcome this image of him not being particularly young and vigorous,” added Belt, the politics professor.

“I think they know that they can’t keep hiding him.”

"Passion, Growth, Commitment": Union Minister Defines India's Youth

Anurag Thakur said the youth is shaping the future of India.

New Delhi:

Union Minister Anurag Thakur today said the youth of the country or yuva is totally committed to India’s growth.

“Yuva means empowerment, development, passion, growth and commitment,” Mr Thakur said at the NDTV Yuva Conclave.

“India’s yuva is so committed that the country has become the third biggest start-up hub in the past 10 years,” he said.

He said that the youth is shaping the future of India and that the term yuva has nothing to do with the age.

“When I look at PM Modi, when he’s flying Tejas or doing deep-sea diving, I realise, being a yuva is about your thinking and work.” he said.

There is a lot of awareness among today’s youth, Mr Thakur said, adding that they also know about their rights.

Mr Thakur claimed that his boss, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the best as he is strict at work, but kind towards the citizens of India.

“Most people here have their bosses. But My boss, PM Modi, is the best. He is the strictest at work, but kindest for the citizens of India,” Mr Thakur said.

“He hasn’t taken a single holiday in 23 years. Even when his mother passed away, he just took a 2 hour break for the funeral and then got back to work. That is the type of commitment the PM has,” he added.

CENTCOM claims destroying 4 Yemeni drones in Red Sea

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed on its X social account that between 2:00 and 2:20 a.m. (Sanaa time) on March 27, the United States Central Command successfully engaged and destroyed four long-range unmanned aerial systems (UAS) launched by the Yemeni army in the Red Sea.

There were no injuries or damage reported to the US or coalition ships, CENTCOM reported.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7 after the territory’s Palestinian Resistance movements carried out a surprise retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.

Yemeni Armed Forces have said that they won’t stop their attacks until unrelenting Israeli ground and aerial offensives in Gaza come to an end.

The United States and Britain in December announced a military coalition to target Yemen in support of Israel.

We have common agenda, says Chandrababu Naidu at NDA rally with PM Modi

Addressing the NDA’s first public rally here in Palnadu district along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, he said that their flags may be different but their agenda is common.

We have common agenda, says Chandrababu Naidu at NDA rally with PM Modi

Chilakaluripet: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national President N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said that the welfare of the people is the common agenda of his party, and its allies – the BJP, and the Jana Sena. Addressing the NDA’s first public rally here in Palnadu district along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan, he said that their flags may be different but their agenda is common.

Sharing the dais with PM Modi and Pawan Kalyan for the first time after 2014, Chandrababu Naidu, who recently rejoined the NDA, said that there is no doubt that the NDA is forming the governments both at the Centre and in the State. The TDP chief said that the meeting is a platform to reconstruct the state which will realise the dreams of the people and work for their welfare.

Maintaining that the TDP, the Jana Sena, and the BJP have joined hands only to take the people’s welfare agenda forward, Chandrababu Naidu told the people that the verdict that they are going to give in these elections will decide the future of the state. Seeking the blessings of the voters for the NDA, he said that PM Narendra Modi is not an individual but a force, transforming India into a power that commands the whole world. “PM Modi is a leader whose services are praised by almost all the countries and the schemes like Awas Yojana, Ujwal Yojana and Kisan Samman have given a totally new definition for welfare,” he said.

Thanking Pawan Kalyan for his support, he said that the Jana Sena Party chief always yearns for the people’s progress. Observing that PM Modi wants to build a poverty-free nation, Chandrababu Naidu appealed to the people to join hands with him in this endeavour and for Viksit Bharat. He said that the PM has taken the nation to a very high position in the world and soon, India will be the number three country in the world in development.

“We will be in a commanding position to dictate to even countries like China and the United States,” he felt. Maintaining that the state has been facing several problems after bifurcation, the TDP supremo said: “We could overcome certain issues but with Mr Jagan (CM Jagan Mohan Reddy) in power in the past five years, the state again has moved backwards.”

Observing that the foundation has been laid for Amaravati and several educational institutions with global standards have also been established besides completing 72 per cent of the Polavaram project, he felt that had these been completed, the state would have progressed well and reached the top position in the country. Alleging that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has simply looted all the natural resources and turned the state into a ganja hub, he said that now the condition of the state is so poor that there are no roads even in many areas. Meanwhile, industrialists have been chased out, unemployment is very high in the state and the people have lost mental peace, he added.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the Chief Minster has polluted politics by filing false cases against several leaders, and Jagan’s sister (state Congress chief Y.S. Sharmila) is asking the people not to vote for him. He claimed that almost all the government buildings have been mortgaged to raise funds and appealed to the people to come forward and support the NDA which only can save the state. Expressing confidence that the NDA is going to win 400 plus seats, he appealed to the people to see to it that the alliance wins all the 25 seats in the state.

Allegations about Russia’s plans to invade Europe nonsense

“As for the allegations that we are planning to invade Europe after Ukraine, this is utter nonsense meant solely to intimidate their population to make them pay more money,” Putin said at a meeting with military pilots in the Tver Region.

According to TASS, he noted that this narrative unfolds “amid the slumping economy and deteriorating living standards.” “This is absolutely clear and is acknowledged by everyone. This is not propaganda. This is what is really happening. They need to justify themselves, so they are intimidating their population with a potential Russian threat while seeking to expand their dictation onto the entire world,” Putin stressed.
