There is a lot of awareness among today’s youth, Mr Thakur said, adding that they also know about their rights.

“The youth must get their voter ID cards and go and vote despite how hot it may be. Don’t lose this opportunity,” Mr Thakur told the young audience at the NDTV Yuva conclave.

“Yuva means empowerment, development, passion, growth and commitment,” Mr Thakur said.

Speaking at the mega event, Mr Thakur claimed that his boss, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the best as he is strict at work, but kind towards the citizens of India.

Gold prices surge in Hyderabad, mark second highest rate of the year

Hyderabad: The gold prices in Hyderabad are on a rising trend, marking the second-highest surge in the year on Thursday.

According to market reports, the price of 24 carat gold per 10 grams reached Rs 67,310, marking a significant increase. This rate stands as the second-highest recorded from March 29, 2023, to March 28, 2024, indicating a notable upward movement in the precious metal’s value.

The peak in gold prices for the year was observed on March 21, with the rate for 24 carat gold per 10 grams touching Rs 67,420, marking the highest point in the past year.

In parallel, the prices of 22 carat gold are also following a rising trend in Hyderabad, aligning with the overall bullish sentiment in the gold market.

Conversely, silver prices in the city are witnessing a falling trend. On Thursday, the rate for 10 grams of silver stood at Rs 805, indicating a downward movement in silver’s value.

Jordanian demonstrators call on govt. to cancel peace treaty with Israel over Gaza war

Demonstrators gather in front of the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan, on March 26, 2024.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have rallied near the Israeli embassy in Jordan’s capital city of Amman for the fourth day in a row to condemn the occupying regime’s ongoing war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The demonstrators gathered in front of the Israeli embassy on Wednesday, calling on the Jordanian government to cancel its highly unpopular peace treaty with Israel and end all its other agreements with the occupying regime, with Jordanian security forces trying to disperse them.

Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994 amid efforts at the time by the US to work out a so-called two-state solution to the Palestinian conflict, an initiative which has failed to bear fruit after nearly three decades.

The protesters also demanded that the export of goods from Jordan to the occupied territories be stopped, as they chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Jordanians have been taking to the streets over the past few days to condemn the regime’s crimes in the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, pro-Palestine protesters called for the Israeli embassy to be closed down.

Jordanian riot police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of demonstrators who marched towards the regime’s embassy in protest at Israeli forces’ war crimes in Gaza.

Since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Jordan has been the scene of huge pro-Palestine rallies as anti-Israeli sentiments have spiked across the region over the regime’s brutal onslaught. Israel’s embassy in the kingdom has been a flashpoint for those protests.

Jordanian authorities, however, have dealt with anti-Israeli protests with a repressive hand, arresting hundreds of activists and protesters after accusing them of breaking the law.

According to Palestinian medical sources, the regime’s genocide in Gaza has so far killed 32,500 civilians, mostly women and children, leaving over 74,000 others wounded.

Exclusive: Anurag Thakur Blasts UN Body Report On Unemployment In India

Exclusive: Anurag Thakur Blasts UN Body's Unemployment Report In India

New Delhi:

The government today disputed the data put out by the International Labour Organisation which said that employment scenario in India is grim, especially among youth. ILO, in its report, stated that youth form nearly 83% of the unemployed workforce in India. The study also showed that the number of educated youth among all jobless people has gone up from 54.2% to 65.7% in 2022.

“This indicates that the problem of unemployment in India has become increasingly concentrated among the youth, especially the educated ones in urban areas,” the report said.

But Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur said that the data by Indian agencies painted a different picture.

“64 million people have registered on Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). It is a bigger number than the population of Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries,” Mr Thakur said at the NDTV Yuva Conclave.

“The 34 crore mudra loans that were given out, these are also creating job opportunities. Now they are job givers from being job seekers,” he said.

Elaborating on the ILO report, he said that India has been relying on international rating agencies for years, but it should now go by the data from domestic ones which are now equally equipped.

“We still have a slave mentality because we always depended on foreign ratings. We need to come out of it and trust organisations in our country,” Mr Thakur said.

The minister for youth affairs said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, since taking office in 2014, has also made policies to aid entrepreneurs, which is another way the government is generating employment.

“Now people do not hesitate while launching a start-up. I have met so many people who studied at prestigious universities and took up jobs outside India, have now come back and are now running a start-up in India,” he said.

The ILO report claimed that India would add 70-80 lakh youths to the labour workforce in the next decade if it worked on 5 policy areas: job creation; quality of employment; inequalities in the labour market; strengthening both skills and policies of the active labour market; and bridging the knowledge deficits on labour market patterns and youth employment.

BJP could drop half a dozen more sitting MPs in Uttar Pradesh

The party is yet to announce candidates on 12 seats in the state.

BJP could drop half a dozen more sitting MPs in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in Uttar Pradesh is expected to drop half a dozen more sitting MPs, known for their ‘under-performance’.

The party is yet to announce candidates on 12 seats in the state.

According to sources, the BJP has gathered inputs on its MPs’ performances with the help of grassroots functionaries, including those from RSS.

Earlier, it had dropped 9 of the 11 sitting MPs in its second list of candidates in the state.

The performance of MPs is expected to play a role in deciding their candidature, party sources said.

About half a dozen MPs out of 12 are under scrutiny of the BJP brass over their alleged “unsatisfactory” performance.

Of the 12 remaining seats, BJP had won 9 seats – Kaushambhi, Prayagraj, Kaiserganj, Machhlishahr, Deoria, Phulpur, Bhadohi, Firozabad, and Ballia – in 2019.

Mainpuri, Rae Bareli, and Ghosi were won by SP, Congress and BSP, respectively.

The main focus is on Kaiserganj which is represented by former Wrestling Federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been embroiled in allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers.

The BJP could nominate his wife, Ketki Singh, or their son Prateek Bhushan Singh, who is an MLA from Gonda.

However, party sources said Brij Bhushan has been in touch with the BJP brass and is confident of getting the ticket for himself.

Prayagraj MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who will turn 75 on July 22 this year, is also likely to be dropped. She had earlier announced that she would not contest the 2024 elections.

The BJP has already sidelined its eight-time MP from Bareilly, Santosh Gangwar, on account of his advanced age.

BJP MP from Ballia, Virendra Singh, is under the scanner ever since he announced the construction of an auditorium in the name of SP patriarch and party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2022.

“The MPs who have been denied a ticket or are expected to be denied in the future would be engaged in organisational work,” said a UP BJP spokesperson.

The BJP is contesting 75 out of 80 seats in UP, leaving the remaining five for its allies -two each for RLD and Apna Dal (S) and one for SBSP.
