More Than Pride On Line In Bayern Munich-Borussia Dortmund Clash

Even though both sides are in the shadow of Xabi Alonso‘s unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, there is still plenty to play for in Saturday’s Bayern Munich-Borussia Dortmund clash. With a 10-point lead with eight games to play, Leverkusen are on course for a maiden Bundesliga crown. Second-placed Bayern could be as many as 13 points behind at kick-off, should Leverkusen win at home against Hoffenheim earlier on Saturday. A Leverkusen title would mark the first time since 2009, and just the fifth time in the past three decades, that neither Bayern nor Dortmund has finished atop the table.

Saturday’s match between the traditional powers remains crucial for both sides.

Bayern risk a first loss at home to their biggest domestic rivals since 2014.

They will also want to keep up their momentum ahead of a visit to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter finals in early April, the last piece of silverware the trophy-hungry club can reasonably expect this season.

While pride may be at stake for Bayern, fourth-placed Dortmund are in danger of missing the Champions League next season, with RB Leipzig one point behind.

For a club which relies heavily on Champions League income, missing out on the top four could have huge ramifications for Dortmund.

Former Bayern captain Philipp Lahm said fireworks were guaranteed on Saturday.

“A rivalry has risen between Dortmund and Bayern. It’s the Bundesliga, it’s the match of the round on Saturday,” Lahm told AFP.

“A lot is at stake, especially for Dortmund, because the Champions League is the minimal goal they want to achieve.”

Lahm welcomed Leverkusen’s challenge, saying “it’s very, very important that the Bundesliga is exciting again and that someone can push or even take over Bayern.”

In a stellar 659-game career, Lahm faced Dortmund more than any other opponent. He captained Bayern to a 2-1 win over their rivals in the 2013 Champions League final.

Since that match, Bayern have won 23 of 32 games between the clubs.

Bayern legend Lothar Matthaeus told AFP that he backed his former side to continue their recent dominance.

“The title race is over for Bayern Munich. This game is more important for Borussia Dortmund, but Bayern’s DNA is to win each and every game — and they’ll do it again.”

One to watch: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)

Having shaken off an ankle injury which kept him out of England’s March friendlies, Harry Kane is fit and ready to take on Dortmund.

In his first ‘Klassiker’ appearance in November, Kane scored a hat-trick to demolish the home side.

Kane has 31 goals in 26 league games this season.

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic praised the striker on Thursday, telling reporters “Harry Kane has an outstanding tally in his first Bayern season.

“He’s extremely important for them in attack as we saw first hand. He has scored as many goals as our top three goalscorers put together.”

Key stats

70 – Bayer Leverkusen have 70 points with eight games remaining. Last year, Bayern and Dortmund finished on 71 after 34 games, with the Bavarians winning the title on goal difference.

56 – Third-placed Stuttgart have 56 points after 26 games. In 2006-07, Stuttgart won the title with 70 points after 34 games.

13 – Struggling Darmstadt have just 13 points this season, just three more than 10, the worst mark of all time set in 1965-66 by one-season wonders Tasmania Berlin.

Fixtures (1430 GMT unless stated)

Borussia Moenchengladbach v Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt v Union Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen v Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen v Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig v Mainz, Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund (1730)

Gaza death toll hits 32,552: Palestinian Ministry

Gaza: The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 32,552, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said in a press statement.

The Israeli army killed 62 Palestinians and wounded 91 others during the past 24 hours, it added on Thursday as quoted by Xinhua news agency report.

This brings the total death toll to 32,552 and injuries to 74,980 since the Israel-Hamas war broke out, according to the Ministry.

Israel has launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on October 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage.

UK Man Fighting For Russia Against Ukraine Says He ''Will Die For Putin''

British Man Fighting For Russia Against Ukraine Says He Is ''Prepared To Die'' For Putin

He claimed that he’s ”doing the Lord’s work” after joining the Russian army in January.

A British man who flew to Russia to fight alongside Vladimir Putin’s forces in Ukraine has said he’s willing to die for the cause, Metro reported. Notably, British citizen Aiden Minnis, 37, is a former National Front member and convicted criminal from Chippenham, Wiltshire. He claimed that he’s  ”doing the Lord’s work” after joining the Russian army in January.

He said his fellow soldiers are his brothers, adding, ”I trust them and will die for them. They have proven themselves and helped me a lot. We understand each other. A bit of pidgin English and pidgin Russian and sign language. It gets done.”

Mr Minnis has multiple charges, ranging from dangerous driving causing the deaths of two people, a racist attack and beating up a homeless man.

Another British citizen Ben Stimson, 48, is also known to be fighting in Ukraine for Vladimir Putin’s regime. Both are understood to be in the Donbas region, which is under Russian occupation.

In a video, Mr Stimson, from Oldham, Manchester, said, ”Every man takes his choice… a lot of us, the foreign volunteers, have chosen to come over to this side, to the Russian side.”

According to BBC, he was previously jailed in the UK in 2015 for joining pro-Russian separatists in the east of Ukraine. Subsequently, his family cut off all communication with him.

His father said, ”I’ve cut him off. Before I cut him off he was in Moscow. I’ve been looking after Ben on and off for years and years. He’s on his own now. He’s 48 now, he can do what he wants. He’s been a constant worry. I want a bit of peace at my age. You never know what he’ll do next.”

The two men have also posted several videos of them on social media,  posing with grenades, and various flags and even showing two dead bodies.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said: “Reports of British nationals taking part in Putin’s illegal invasion are shocking and their alleged actions are reprehensible. Those who travel from the UK to conflict zones to engage in unlawful activity should expect to be investigated upon their return.”

Both of them have been branded traitors by a former British Army commander. If either of the two men came back to the UK, they would be arrested under the Foreign Enlistment Act of 1870.

However, Mr Minnis said he had no plans to return to the UK and is in the process of obtaining a Russian passport.

Bopanna/Ebden head to Miami Open final, eyeing Men’s Doubles no.1 spot

Bopanna’s victory will elevate him to the pinnacle of the rankings upon Monday’s update, reclaiming his ATP World No.1 status achieved earlier this year in January, marking him as the oldest player to accomplish this feat.

Bopanna/Ebden head to Miami Open final, eyeing Men’s Doubles no.1 spot

Miami: Australian Open winners Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden reached their second final of the season as they defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the men’s doubles semifinals of the Miami Open ATP Masters 1000 event.

The win will take Bopanna to the top of the rankings when they are updated on Monday as he regains the World No.1 ranking in the ATP List that he achieved in January this year, becoming the oldest player to do so.

The top seeds Bopanna, who won his first Grand Slam men’s doubles in Australia this year, and Ebden defeated Granollers and Zeballos 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals on Thursday.

In the final, Bopanna and Ebden will take on the winner of the semifinal between Kevin Krawietz/Tim Puetz and Ivan Dodig/Austin Krajicek.

This will be the 14th ATP Masters 1000 final for Bopanna, 44, and the first in Miami. Overall, this will be the 63rd ATP Tour level final for India’s Bopanna, who has so far won 25 doubles titles.

By beating Granollers and Zeballos in what was their third ATP Tour semifinals of this year, Bopanna and Ebden avenged their defeat to the same pair in the 2023 final. This will be the fifth appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 final for the Bopanna/Ebden as a pair.

With Thursday’s win, Bopanna became the second Indian tennis player after Leander Paes to reach the final of all 9 ATP Masters events.

"I Am The Spider Of Guna-Shivpuri": Jyotiraditya Scindia In Madhya Pradesh

'I Am The Spider Of Guna-Shivpuri': Jyotiraditya Scindia In Madhya Pradesh

Guna, Madhya Pradesh:

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the BJP’s candidate from Madhya Pradesh’s Guna for the Lok Sabha elections, on Thursday said that he is ‘spider’ of the constituency as he has created a vast network of roads there.

Scindia, while addressing a gathering of the Rawat community in Guna’s Shivpuri, also asked people to ensure the BJP gets 370 votes extra in every booth when compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls so that Narendra Modi is elected as prime minister for a third term.

“Twenty years ago when I resolved to walk on the path of dedication, I decided that if no one would solve your problems, Jyotiraditya Scindia would… I am the spider of Shivpuri. I have built a network of roads here, a network of substations, a network of irrigation facilities, and a network of progress and development for the people here…” he said.

“To make Narendra Modi PM for the third time, we have to work on increasing (BJP) votes by 370 in each booth,” he said.

The minister further said that under the PM’s leadership, several welfare schemes were underway for farmers, women, youth and the poor, including giving free rations to 80 crore people and the Ayushman Bharat health initiative.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the slogan of ‘abki baar 400 paar’. Under his leadership, Article 370 has been abrogated in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee (Jan Sangh’s founder) sacrificed his life for removal of Article 370. The PM is working to make India a developed nation by 2047,” he said.

The Congress is pitting former BJP leader Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav against Jyotiraditya Scindia. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Scindia, then a Congress candidate, had lost to K P Yadav. Scindia’s defeat from his own turf by 1.25 lakh votes set in motion a series of events, including an internal party struggle, eventually resulting in Scindia’s exit from the party in 2020. He took 22 MLAs with him, causing the collapse of the Congress government led by Kamal Nath that had come to power in 2018. The BJP brought Scindia into Parliament via the Rajya Sabha and made him a Union minister.

The BJP has named candidates for all 29 seats in the state. The Congress is yet to announce names for Gwalior, Khandwa and Morena seats.

Scindia has begun campaigning in the seat, which votes on May 7, before he was even officially declared the BJP candidate and has been attending important events of different communities.

Mukhtar Ansari's Family Alleges Poisoning In Jail, Says Will Go To Court

Slow Poisoning Charge After Gangster-Politician Mukhtar Ansari's Death

Mukhtar Ansari Death News: Mukhtar Ansari’s autopsy will be conducted today (File)

New Delhi:

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh late last evening.

Ansari was rushed to the hospital in Banda after he fell unconscious in the district jail at around 8.45 pm. He died at the Rani Durgavati Medical College during the treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The family of Mukhtar Ansari – who had been in jail in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh since 2005 – has alleged that he was poisoned in the prison.

“Mukhtar said that he was given a poisonous substance in his food in jail. This happened for the second time. He was given poison around 40 days ago as well. And, recently, on March 19, he was again given this (poison) due to which his condition was bad,” his brother Afzal Ansari had been quoted as saying by PTI.

Mukhtar Ansari’s son Umar also alleged that his father was given poison in the food and said he would approach the court. “We said this before also and even today we will say the same thing. On March 19, he was poisoned in the dinner. We will move to the judiciary, we have full faith in it…,” he said.

Mukhtar Ansari’s lawyer had earlier this month alleged in the court that there was a threat to his life in Banda jail and that he was fed some poisonous substance along with his food.

Several politicians including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati have called for a probe into the dreaded gangster’s family’s allegations.

Security was stepped up outside the hospital after his death, and prohibitory orders were imposed across the state to maintain law and order.

Officials said there was special deployment of forces in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur and Varanasi districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh as well, where Ansari wields influence allegedly through a criminal syndicate.

Ansari’s autopsy will be conducted today at Banda Medical College Hospital.

Ansari had also been hospitalised in the early hours of Tuesday and discharged after nearly 14 hours. The prison department had said that Ansari’s health had deteriorated because he was fasting during Ramadan and he had fallen in the washroom.

Ansari, the five-time former MLA from Mau, had more than criminal cases against him, of which 15 were on murder charges.

He had joined a gang in the 1980s and then formed his own in the 1990s. The gang was involved in extortion and kidnapping in the Mau, Ghazipur, Varanasi and Jaunpur districts.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Budget Hero

Budget smartphones are plentiful, and every brand is trying to do something different to capture the attention of the masses. The Poco X6 Neo is the new kid in the block, well not actually new, it’s a rebranded Redmi Note 13, but with some changes to its design and software. The key selling points for the Neo are its slim display bezel and an overall slim form factor. The Poco X6 Neo joins the Poco X6 and the Poco X6 Pro. This results in a series of devices that stretches from the budget segment deep into to the mid-range.

We’ve been testing the budget Poco X6 Neo for a week to try and find out if it is a good phone for around Rs. 15,000 and here’s what we found.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Price in India

The Poco X6 Neo is available in India in two variants. The base model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs. 15,999, whereas the higher-end 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option can be yours for Rs. 17,999.

poco x6 neo hardware poco-x6-neo-review1

Poco X6 Neo is available in three colour options

The Poco X6 Neo is available in Astral Black, Horizon Blue, and Martian Orange. We received the 12GB RAM variant in Martian Orange for review.

In the box, the Poco X6 Neo is available with a case, a 33W fast charger, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool, and the usual paperwork.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Design

In terms of design, the Poco X6 Neo is certainly a good looking phone. We’ve been testing out the Martian Orange colourway, which has a marble-like finish on its back panel that shines though when light hits the surface. It’s kind of cool and is certainly eye-catching. Otherwise, the panel has a matte finish to it, which is good at resisting fingerprints and smudges.

It’s got a flat frame with a slight taper that makes the phone comfortable to hold in hand. Both the frame and back panel are made from plastic, which helps keep it light at just 175 grams. There’s also a rectangular camera module at the back with the dual cameras, which protrude outwards quite a bit. When laid on its back, the protruding cameras makes the phone wobble.

The Poco X6 Neo has a single loudspeaker

The Poco X6 Neo is also quite thin, at just 7.69mm. On the front, you get skinny bezels around the flat display which gives it a very premium appearance. There’s no thick chin either like you see on most phones in this price bracket. The phone offers an IP54 dust and splash resistant rating and the display screen is covered in Gorilla Glass 5.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Specifications and software

Moving on to specifications, the Poco X6 Neo is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC, which is based on a 6nm fabrication process. It is paired with a Mali-G54 MC2 GPU and up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. You can’t expect faster RAM and storage on a phone that’s priced this aggressively.

poco x6 neo design 2 poco-x6-neo-review3

Poco X6 Neo has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner

The phone comes with a USB Type-C port, a single loudspeaker, and a microphone at the bottom. The volume and power buttons are placed on the left side, whereas the right frame houses the SIM ejector tray, which supports dual SIM or a single SIM and a microSD card. At the top you’ll find an infrared blaster, a microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone has 5G support, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, and support for the usual global positioning systems.

Poco has used a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on the X6 Neo that’s placed underneath the Power button. The scanner is fast and works well. We did not face any issues during our time using the phone.

The phone packs a 5,000mAh battery and comes with a 33W fast charger. Out-of-the-box, the Poco X6 Neo runs Android 13-based MIUI 14, and you will get two years of Android and 4 years of security updates. However, since Google will soon launch Android 15 later this year, you’re essentially only getting one year of Android OS update with the X6 Neo, which is kind of disappointing.

poco x6 neo software poco-x6-neo-review5

Poco X6 Neo has a lot of bloatware

In terms of software features, you get the Poco launcher on the phone with Glance lock screen (which thankfully can be disabled), along with plenty of bloatware and advertisements. While most of the bloatware can be uninstalled, there are a couple of apps that you’ll have to live with. There’s your usual set of MIUI 14 features onboard the phone as well.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Performance

In terms of performance, there’s not much going on with the X6 Neo because it is your average run-of-the-mill performer. The MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC is decent for everyday use and for some gaming. We ran some benchmarks on the phone and here are the results. With AnTuTu, the phone scored 4,59,491 points. On Geekbench 6’s CPU benchmarks, the phone scored 613 points in single core tests and 1,798 points in multi-core tests. In the GPU test, the phone managed a score of 1,407 points. As you can tell, it’s nothing out of the ordinary.

poco x6 neo specifications poco-x6-neo-review6

The phone is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC

One of the key selling points of the Poco X6 Neo is its display. You get a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, full-HD+ resolution, and up to 2,160Hz touch sampling rate. The panel also features super thin bezels all around. The side bezels are razor-thin at just 1.5mm. Meanwhile, the top bezel is 2mm and the bottom bezel is 2.5mm. At first glance, the bezels appear to be uniform and give the device a premium look. It’s quite a rare sight to see displays with such thin bezels at this price point, especially of the AMOLED variety. Most phones in this price bracket get an LCD panel, which means less deeper blacks and no support for Always-on Display (AOD).

The screen gets bright enough thanks to 1,000 nits of peak brightness, but it has a typical brightness of just 500 nits. The screen is visible outdoors, but only barely. The phone offers three colour modes – Vivid, Saturated, and Standard. We’d recommend going with the Standard colour mode if you want the most accurate colours, or Vivid if you want the phone to adjust colours based on what’s on the display. You can also adjust the colour temperature on the phone. Viewing angles are pretty good with no change in colours and contrast.

poco x6 neo display poco-x6-neo-review7

The Poco X6 Neo has a 500 nits display

The phone comes with a single loudspeaker that can get loud, but it lacks any sort of bass. Microphone and ear speaker quality is also decent and I didn’t face any issues when making phone calls. The Poco X6 Neo is good for content consumption, but it would’ve been nice if the company had included stereo speakers.

I played Call of Duty: Warzone on the Poco X6 Neo and it automatically set the graphics quality to ‘Low’, but this wasn’t surprising. You can play BGMI and other graphic intensive games on the phone, but don’t expect high or ultra graphics. BGMI selected HD graphics by default but had most of the effects greyed out. During long gaming sessions (30 to 45 mins) the phone did not heat-up much, and performance didn’t drop. Touch sensitivity was also good, but there were a few misses here and there. I didn’t notice any heating issues when using the camera or during regular usage. The phone stayed cool in most scenarios.

poco x6 neo gaming poco-x6-neo-review8

Gaming on the Poco X6 Neo is fun thanks to the large display

Coming to software performance, I did not notice major lagging or stuttering when navigating the UI, opening apps, or using the camera. Yes, the phone did lag occasionally when switching camera modes and I did notice some stutter in animations. Overall though, the 120Hz refresh rate helps overcome these rare stutters and it’s not going to be a dealbreaker.

The Poco X6 Neo’s 5,000mAh battery would easily last me a day and half with regular usage that included some gaming, watching videos, listening to music using wired headphones, taking photos, browsing the web, and making some calls. With heavy usage that included an hour of gaming, photo/video capture, and a couple of hours of streaming content, the phone would last me a day. The phone supports 33W fast charging and comes with a charger in the box. In our tests, the phone took about 1 hour 15 mins to charge from 1 to 100 percent, whereas 50 percent charge was achieved in about 35 mins.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Cameras

Alright, let’s talk about the cameras. The Poco X6 Neo comes with a dual rear camera setup that includes a 108-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the phone has a 16-megapixel sensor for selfies and videos. The Camera app is easy to use and has most of the camera modes laid out right in front. There’s a dedicated 108-megapixel mode, a Night mode, Portrait, Documents, and a More option that gives you access to Time-lapse, Slow motion, Pro mode, Panorama, and AI watermark.

poco x6 neo cameras poco-x6-neo-review9

Poco X6 Neo has a 108-megapixel main rear camera

Daylight shots from the main camera show good detail with accurate colours in most shooting scenarios. However, it wasn’t able to handle difficult lighting conditions well, despite having the HDR option enabled. The 108-megapixel captures pack more detail, are surprisingly sharp and colour accurate. In low-light, the camera doesn’t perform very well even in Night mode. There’s a big drop in detail, sharpness, and colour accuracy. You will also see washed out colours and details.

Poco X6 Neo primary camera sample (Tap image to expand)

Poco X6 Neo primary camera sample captured at 3X digital zoom (Tap image to expand)

The Poco X6 Neo offers 2x and 3x digital zoom from the primary camera, but the zoomed shots are digital crops and so, don’t pack much detail. There’s plenty of watercolour effect seen in zoom shots especially at night. Daylight shots are better and do have some level of detail.

Poco X6 Neo primary camera sample (Tap image to expand)

Poco X6 Neo primary camera sample captured at 3X digital zoom (Tap image to expand)

You also get a 2-megapixel depth sensor which is used when capturing Portrait photos. The camera takes decent portrait photos in daylight, but things get bad once the sun goes down. There are no options to choose in Portrait photos, but you can adjust the depth of field. Edge detection in daylight average. In low light photos, you will notice flaws with edge detection.

When it comes to selfies, the Poco X6 Neo again manages decent photos. Daylight selfies are good and have a good level of details with accurate white balance and colours. Low Light selfies are washed out and lack details.

The Poco X6 Neo only offers 1080p 30fps video recording from both the rear and front cameras. While you can use the camera to record videos, expect it to have plenty of noise and artefacts. The dynamic range is also not great in daylight videos and things get worse in lowlight conditions. Stabilisation in video is decent at best, start running and you’ll see all the jitters. In Slow motion mode you can record at 720p 120fps, but the results are mediocre.

Overall, the camera setup on the Poco X6 Neo is good for basic daylight photography.

Poco X6 Neo Review: Verdict

The Poco X6 Neo 5G has a starting price of Rs. 15,999 and sees competition from phones such as the Realme 12 5G, Redmi Note 13 5G, and the Vivo T3 5G. However, only the Realme 12 5G is in the same price bracket, whereas the others cost a little bit more. Of course, when you pay more, you will also get a better phone, especially when it comes to camera performance.

Poco’s X6 Neo’s hardware isn’t really new, but it does offer good value for money. The AMOLED display is definitely something that you won’t find in this price segment and is great for content consumption. The phone can also take good photos in daylight conditions. You get good battery life, and decent performance as well. At this price point, the Poco X6 Neo is definitely a hero.

"Spent Last 3 Days In Bed, Was On Painkillers": Riyan Parag

Architect of Rajasthan Royals’ win over Delhi Capitals, young batter Riyan Parag on Thursday revealed that he was not well for the last three days and had to take painkillers to recover in time for their IPL match. Considered a precocious talent, the 22-year-old from Assam finally came off age as he slammed a blistering 84 not out off 45 balls to set up a 12-run win for Rajasthan Royals against Delhi Capitals.

“I have worked very hard, the last 3 days I was in bed, I was on painkillers, I just got up today and I’m very happy,” said Parag, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, during the post-match presentation.

Despite his talent, Parag struggled to live up to the expectations and had underwhelming numbers to show in the last few seasons but his hard work paid off as he hit his highest IPL score to lift RR to 185 for 5.

“(Emotions) They are settled, mom is here, she has seen the struggle, the last 3-4 years,” he said. “I know what my opinion is about myself. That does not change regardless of whether I get a zero or not.”

He played as a finisher in the earlier editions but this time, the team management gave him an extended role at No. 4. Parag was also coming into the season after scoring loads of runs at the Deodhar trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s.

“That’s a lot to do with the type of season as well, I had a great domestic season and that helps,” he said.

“Someone in the top four has to play the 20 overs, the wicket was keeping low and stopping, in the first game Sanju bhayya did it.”

Parag’s performance also impressed his captain Sanju Samson.

“Riyan Parag has been a big name in the last few years. Wherever I go, people ask me about him. There is something very special he can give to Indian cricket,” Samson said.

RR had a disastrous start as they were 36 for 3 in the eighth over but Parag slowly constructed his innings before accelerating in the end to lift them to a good total.

“The way we started, the first ten overs, we were like Rovman, be ready you might have to bat! The IPL is changing and we all have to be flexible,” Samson said.

RR’s decision to bring in Nandre Burger as an impact player, replacing Shimron Hetmyer also reaped dividends as the South African pacer struck twice in the fourth over.

“Earlier it was about 11 players, now it is about all 15 players. Me and Sanga had a lot of chat between 15th and 17th over before deciding the Impact Player. It’s all about gauging in which zone they are. You have to look at that and take your decision.

“I saw Sandy (Sandeep Sharma) was calm and Avesh (Khan) was also looking good, so I went with that,” he added referring to the brilliant death bowling by the two pacers.”

Talking about his strategy going into the final over, Avesh, who defended 17 runs in the final over, said: “My plan is always clear. One side was longer, so my plan was to bowl wide yorkers.

“I was giving myself five seconds and only thought about executing them. My focus is always on the execution and back my yorkers.

“Enjoying myself here because we have Sandeep, Boult, Burger, all of whom have different skills. Samson gives me freedom to execute and only steps in if he sees I am struggling.

“I try to improve myself everytime. In T20s I try to reinvent myself. I never think about selection and only practice what I want to bowl.”
