March 29 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the schedule for Pakistan’s tour of Ireland for a three-match T20I series. The matches, which are set for May 10, 12, and 14, will take place on Castle Avenue in Dublin.

The series is part of Pakistan’s 12-match preparation for the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies. Before Pakistan leaves for Ireland, New Zealand arrives in Pakistan in April to play five T20Is, the first of which is on April 18.

The final game will take place on April 27. Following that, Pakistan will embark on a four-T20I tour of England, which begins on May 22.

Pakistan’s last visit to Ireland was during the hosts’ inaugural Test match in 2018. That was also the last time the two teams clashed in a variety of formats.

Pakistan was set to play Ireland in two T20Is in Dublin in July 2020, however, they were postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ireland, meanwhile, will enter the T20Is against Pakistan after losing the ODI and T20I series against Afghanistan in the UAE earlier this month, albeit they did earn a historic first Test win in Abu Dhabi to begin off the tour.

Pakistan and Ireland are building up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, and will meet each other on June 16 in the first Group Stage of the tournament.

Human Skin Used To Bind 19th Century Book Removed By Harvard Library

Human Skin Used To Bind 19th Century Book Removed By Harvard Library

New York:

Prestigious Harvard University said Wednesday it had removed human skin from the binding of a book held for over 90 years at one of its libraries.

A copy of the 19th-century book “Des Destinées de l’Ame” — or Destinies of the Soul, a meditation on life after death — was found in 2014 to be bound in the skin of a woman.

Harvard said it had removed the binding and noted “past failures in its stewardship of the book that further objectified and compromised the dignity of the human being whose remains were used for its binding.”

The university said it was consulting with French authorities “to determine a final respectful disposition of these human remains.”

Harvard — widely considered the oldest college in the United States — had indulged interest in the morbid story of the book, calling the 2014 discovery “good news for fans of anthropodermic bibliopegy, bibliomaniacs and cannibals alike.”

Anthropodermic bibliopegy — the practice of binding books in human skin — was once a relatively common practice, Harvard said in a 2014 blog post.

The university said at the time that Dr. Ludovic Bouland, the first owner of the book written by French author Arsene Houssaye, had taken skin from the body of a mentally ill woman, who died of a heart attack, at a hospital where he worked.

Bouland was said to have told Houssaye in a note: “A book about the human soul deserved to have a human covering.”

In Wednesday’s media release, Harvard said its stewardship practices related to the book had “failed to meet the level of ethical standards to which it subscribes.”

It noted that, following scientific analysis confirming it was bound in human skin, the library made blog posts which “utilized a sensationalistic, morbid, and humorous tone that fueled similar international media coverage.”

In 2022, Harvard released a report that identified more than 20,000 human remains in its various collections, which ranged from skeletons to teeth, hair and bone fragments.

Railway Minister Shares Video Of Ballastless Track For Bullet Train

Railway Minister Shares Video Of Ballastless Track For Bullet Train: ''First Time In India''

According to Mr Vaishnaw, 295.5 km of piers and 153 km of viaducts have already been finished.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X on Thursday to share a video of India’s first ballastless track system being developed for the bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Significant progress has been achieved for the Bullet Train, which has a 320 kmph speed barrier, the minister revealed. According to Mr Vaishnaw, 295.5 km of piers and 153 km of viaducts have already been finished.

He posted a video of the same on his X account and wrote, “Bharat’s first ballastless track for Bullet Train. 320 kmph speed threshold, 153 km of viaduct completed, 295.5 km of pier work completed. More to come in Modi 3.0”.

Watch the video here:

Ballastless track, or ‘slab track’ is growing in popularity in some countries for high-speed lines. Notably, this is for the first time, the J-slab ballastless track system is being used in India. The innovative track system features pre-cast track slabs meticulously equipped with fastening devices and rails.

This slab rests on the RC track bed which has a thickness of approximately 300mm and is constructed in situ (at the site) for individual UP and Down track lines on the viaduct top.  The RC track bed boasts a width of 2420mm, ensuring stability, National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) said.

“The bullet train project has to be seen from the perspective of integrating economies. In the first corridor that Indian railways are doing, Mumbai, Thane, Vapi, Baroda, Surat, Anand and Ahmedabad – all these economies will become one single economy. So you can have breakfast in Surat, go and complete your work in Mumbai, and come back with your family in the night,” Mr Vaishnaw said at NDTV Indian of the Year award on March 24.

The projected cost is an estimated ₹ 1.08 lakh crore, of which the Centre is committed to providing ₹ 10,000 crore, while Gujarat and Maharashtra will contribute ₹ 5,000 crore each. The remaining funding will be secured through a loan from Japan – at a minimal 0.1 per cent interest rate.

Rameshwaram Cafe blast: NIA questions Bareilly preacher

Officials noted that the preacher attracted NIA attention due to his mobile phone being traced to Karnataka on the day of the blast

Rameshwaram Cafe blast: NIA questions Bareilly preacher

Lucknow: The Lucknow unit of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the house of a preacher in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district and questioned him for several hours after picking him up in connection with the blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru on March 1, senior police officials said.

The officials added that the preacher came on the NIA radar as his mobile phone location was found in Karnataka on the day of the blast.

They said the NIA team had been camping in Bareilly and raided the preacher’s house in Dhaura Tanda town under the Bhojipura police station limits after tracing his mobile phone location.

They added that the preacher was not found at his house and was later picked up from a place of worship and taken to the Bhojipura police station in Bareilly.

A senior police official said the NIA team questioned the suspect for around five hours at the police station. The local police were kept away from the entire process.

He added that the NIA team left after questioning the suspect, issuing instructions that he should not leave the city without informing the police.

He said the local police have been asked to keep a vigil on the suspect and inform the NIA if he ventures outside Bareilly.

The NIA team also asked the suspect the reason for his presence in Karnataka on the day of the blast and why he moved to Bareilly afterwards.

The official added that the suspect was said to be preaching at a Karnataka centre, following which he stayed there for some months and returned to Bareilly after completing his work.

The NIA team obtained contact numbers from the preacher’s mobile phone book and was likely to check the credentials of all the persons who were in touch with the suspect.

The official said the agency could initiate action against the suspect if his involvement surfaced in the investigation.

The investigation agency suspected Al-Hind Islamic State module was behind the blast and apprehended that it was linked with the Mangaluru cooker blast of November 2022 due to a similarity in the timer and detonator devices in the IEDs used in the Rameshwaram Cafe and the cooker blasts.

High Alert Across UP After Gangster-Turned-Politician Mukhtar Ansari's Death

Gangster Mukhtar Ansari death was reported yesterday night.

New Delhi:
Security has been tightened in several Uttar Pradesh towns after gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of a cardiac arrest. His family though allege that the gangster, who has been in jail since 2005, was poisoned.

Here are 10 facts on the big story:

  2. The jailed gangster was rushed to the hospital in Banda after he fell unconscious at a district jail on Thursday night. A few hours later, he was declared dead by the doctors at the Rani Durgavati Medical College.

  3. While the hospital says the cause of death was a cardiac arrest, Mukhtar Ansari’s son and his brother have demanded a probe as they believe he was poisoned while in jail.

  4. “Two days ago I came to meet him, but I was not allowed. Despite being unwell, he was sent to jail. If the stomach was bloated then how could there be a heart attack? In the video that went viral, you can see that his stomach was bloated. His condition was serious. He was brought to be admitted to the ICU. But after 12-14 hours he was sent back to jail,” his son Umar Ansari told the media.

UN court orders Israel: Allow unhindered aid to Gaza

The Hague: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague has ordered Israel to do whatever is necessary to ensure that basic aid reaches the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

“Israel should take all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without delay, in full cooperation with the United Nations, the unhindered provision at scale by all concerned of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance,” the ICJ said on Thursday in its ruling.

These include “food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, clothing, hygiene and sanitation requirements, as well as medical supplies and medical care to Palestinians throughout Gaza, including by increasing the capacity and number of land crossing points and maintaining them open for as long as necessary”.

The ruling is an addition to a January 26 verdict, in which the ICJ ordered Israel to take all possible measures to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, to halt incitement against Palestinians as a group, to preserve evidence and to take immediate measures to ensure humanitarian aid, Xinhua news agency reported.

On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed an application to the ICJ for proceedings against Israel concerning alleged violations of its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In the current view of the court, the provisional measures indicated in that order of January 26 do not fully address the consequences arising from the changes on the ground. Therefore, the Court determined that modifications to these measures were justified.

The court said that since that ruling, “the catastrophic living conditions of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have deteriorated further, in particular, in view of the prolonged and widespread deprivation of food and other basic necessities to which the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been subjected.”

“Palestinians in Gaza are no longer facing only a risk of famine, as noted in the order, but that famine is setting in,” it added.
