A Circle Inspector of police was attacked by a mob in Khammam reserve forest area when a police team went to control a law and order situation near Chandrapalem village in Sattupalem mandal in Telangana on Sunday.

A group of local villagers went and claimed a saline patch for cultivation when another group of non-locals made a counter-claim.

As tensions rose and clashes broke out between the two groups, a team of 10-15 policemen as well as forest officers arrived on the scene.

Why the specific officer was targeted is not yet clear.

"Doesn't Feel Like It's A Hierarchy": Rachin Ravindra's Big CSK Revelation

It has been a brilliant start for Rachin Ravindra in IPL 2024 and the New Zealand all-rounder contributed massively to his side’s victories in the first two games of the competition. Ravindra got good starts on both occasions and narrowly missed out on scoring half-centuries. Ravindra was picked by CSK for Rs 1.8 crore in the auction and he believes that the mindset of the franchise that makes it so successful. The five-time champions have started the tournament on a positive note and Ravindra revealed that the team does not have a strict hierarchy and they can have good conversations with the coaches.

“It was pretty special. I think when we were watching the auction and as soon as it (getting signed by CSK) happened, I had Dave (Devon Conway) call me, Santner messaged me and then obviously, Flem (Fleming). So that’s pretty cool… a lot of the lads, not just the overseas guys, but the Indian guys are such good people. So it’s very easy to get along with people in a team like this,” Rachin said on joining CSK.

He also spoke about how Stephen Fleming and MS Dhoni are always available for conversations.

“It’s more from players being able to be comfortable, players knowing their roles and quite a relaxed environment, which makes everyone feel a bit more chill and can get along a bit better, and doesn’t feel like it’s a hierarchy because you can always have a nice conversation with Flem if you want to, you can have a conversation with Hussey, you can have a conversation with MS Dhoni, you can have a conversation with Rutu. It’s all pretty chill, which for me, helps me a lot means I can come in and just not try to be anyone else. I can just be myself in that environment and let it happen,” Rachin added.

Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey said that the ‘Impact Player’ rule has lengthened their batting order, allowing former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to come in as late as number eight during this IPL.

The ‘Impact Player’ rule, introduced from 2023 edition, allows each franchise to name five substitutes, one of whom could come on as a substitute during the course of the match.

Playing against Gujarat Titans here on Tuesday, CSK managed to post a match-winning total of 206 for six.

However, with seven batters coming out to bat, there were no signs of Dhoni coming in even as his fans got a bit impatient.

“It’s definitely been a directive from head coach (Stephen) Fleming to keep pushing the game forward. The ‘Impact Player’ has lengthened the batting order, with MSD at number eight, which is crazy, and he is batting well (in the nets) at the moment,” Hussey told reporters during the post-game media interaction.

“Because of this, the batters up the order can take the positive (attacking) route. They certainly have the backing from the coaches and the captain. Even if they get out doing so, it’s fine, and they won’t be criticised. We want to keep playing fast.”

Hyderabad: Hyderabad FC are back in action in the Indian Super League after a long international break, as they take on Mumbai City FC in GMC Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

The young Hyderabad squad made headlines after registering their first win of the season beating Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at their home in the last game. “After getting the season’s first victory, the morale of the club is at the top and the target against Mumbai City is to get the three points,” Shameel Chembakath, HFC assistant coach said.

The Islanders have some of the most influential attacking players in the league – Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Bipin Singh and Vikram Partap Singh. This suggests a tough challenge for HFC’s defense to silence them at the Gachibowli.  “We are aware of the strong line-up of Mumbai and they will come out all guns blazing against us, but I believe our strategy and tactics will give them a good competition,” the assistant coach asserted.

This fixture has seen numerous draws in the past, with five draws and two wins each for both  sides. But clearly, Petr Kratky’s side with 41 points from 19 games will head into the game as clear favourites.  Thangboi Singto-led side will miss defender Mohammed Rafi for the tie, through suspension and defender Manoj Mohammed and striker Aaren D’Silva are yet to make a comeback with their respective injuries.

But Kratky will firmly instruct his team not to underestimate Hyderabad as NorthEast United FC and Chennaiyin did in the last two games, where the bottom-placed side HFC managed to secure four crucial points.

Future of the club:

The former champions are facing a crisis, especially financially. Unpaid salaries to staff led to player exodus in the January transfer window. The club has been recently handed a transfer ban by FIFA for two transfer windows, which means the club cannot register new players for the entire 2024-25 season.

When asked about the future of the club, the assistant coach was somewhat reserved but hinted at upcoming positive developments. “Things will improve and there will be plenty of activities ahead. The club officials will keep everyone updated,” he said.

Osmania University hostellers sublet rooms to outsiders!

According to officials, some boarders and non-boarders of the university have rented their rooms to cab and autorickshaw drivers.

Osmania University hostellers sublet rooms to outsiders!

Hyderabad: Some Osmania University (OU) students appear to be honing their entrepreneurial skill set sans zero investment. And their ‘business formula’ has left officials and other students flabbergasted.

According to the officials, some students, particularly research scholars, were subletting their hostel rooms to non-boarders on monthly charges of Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000.

This clandestine network of students was recently uncovered. As one research scholar was not billed towards the mess facility, officials who scanned through the hostel admission list found the scholar was allotted two rooms in two different blocks on the same premises.

One room, according to Osmania University officials, was sublet by the research scholar in the ladies’ hostel to a non-boarder, and another was being used by the scholar concerned yet there was no mess billing.

As the officials took a closer look, more such cases emerged.

One scholar was found sharing the room with an outsider on monthly charges. Apart from accommodation with a cot and bed beside a cupboard, the ‘tenants’ were also being provided food from the mess and library facilities by the students.

The university extends a single room with a cot, bed, and cupboard to Ph.D scholars, while three to four PG students are accommodated in a single room.

“They are renting out only to persons whom they are acquainted with. To gain entry for their ‘tenants’ into the hostel, scholars cite them as friends or family who will leave in the evening. Whenever we tighten things, students hit the roads alleging worms or strands of hair in the food,” said an official, requesting anonymity.

Similar cases were found in the men’s hostel, which is already in a dilapidated condition. According to officials, some boarders and non-boarders of the university have rented their rooms to cab and autorickshaw drivers.

The deal, according to officials, is struck in a way that both are mutually benefited. Apart from paying a nominal monthly rent, the ‘tenants’ have to prepare food besides taking care of the cosmetic charges of the student.

As many as 7,223 boarders are staying in 25 hostels including 18 men’s and seven women’s hostels during the present academic year.

In addition, as per university estimates, around 4,000 non-boarders are also staying illegally in hostels. Admitting to the issue, a senior official said it could be tackled with the support of the State government.

“All the non-boarders will be evicted within 24 hours if government supports,” the official added.

Sreenidi Deccan thrash Rajasthan United

Hyderabad: Sreenidi Deccan Football Club recorded their biggest win of the season, defeating Rajasthan United 6-1 in a Matchweek 21 I-League clash at the Deccan Arena, Hyderabad on Sunday.

The win keeps the Deccan Warriors on the heels of league leaders Mohammedan SC, six points separating the two sides with the latter having played a match more. Sreenidi Deccan made one change to their starting line-up as defender Gurmukh Singh replaced Pawan Kumar in the centre of defence and the hosts took an early lead as Brazilian Willian Alves chipped the onrushing Rajasthan United goalkeeper in the 8th minute after finding himself in space in the penalty box.

Seven minutes later, Lalromawia doubled the lead with a clinical right-footed finish across the goalkeeper. William then got his second of the game in the 42nd minute after using his strength to hold off the defender and planting a left-footed finish.

The second half followed much of the same pattern and Nigerian winger Rilwan Hassan added a fourth in the 61st minute as he met Faysal Shayesteh’s corner at the back post with a powerful header. Rajasthan United pulled one back as substitute Naoba Meitei escaped the attention of the Sreenidi Deccan defenders and took his goal expertly in the 74th minute.

But there was no comeback as Sreenidi Deccan made sure of the points by scoring two more late on – the first directly from a corner taken by Lalnuntluanga in the 86th minute and Lalromawia’s powerful second on the counter-attack in stoppage time. The Deccan Warriors will travel to Shillong to take on NEROCA Football Club in their next I-League match on April 4.
