Karimnagar: Farmer safeguards crops by filling agricultural well with water tankers

Karimnagar: It was a routine practice for farmers to draw water from agricultural wells with the help of motors and supply it to the agricultural fields and standing crops.

But now a farmer Purella Anjaiah is dropping water into the well and later drawing it to supply crops. Since there was no water in the well and lack of water supply from the canal, Anjaiah was following this method to protect crops from withering.

A native of Mugdumpur of Karimnagar rural manal, Anjaiah sowed paddy in one acre and 20 guntas of land. Though he has three acres, he sowed the crop only in one and half acre due to lack of water. Local farmers cultivate crops by depending on SRSP D-86 canal’s distributary that passes through the area. Water has not been supplied to distributaries due to scarcity. So, farmers are searching for alternate methods to protect crops.

As his efforts to remove silt from the well yielded no result, Anjaiah started filling the well by hiring water tankers and later drawing it with the help of a motor to supply crops. Speaking to Telangana Today, Anjaiah said that since the crop was in a crucial stage, he was supplying water to the field by hiring water tankers. Every day, he was dropping five to six tankers of water into the well and drawing it later.

Per day, he has to spend Rs 5,000 to Rs 6000 since tanker owners were charging Rs 1,000 per tanker. Informing that he was doing the same during the last four days, Anjaiah said that he has to continue the practice for about fortnight to get the yield.

Otherwise, the crop would be withered.

Near Choppadandi, there were gates to release water into distributaries from the main canal. Farmers from the surrounding villages approached the irrigation officials four times and asked them to release water by lifting gates. However, Peddapalli MLA Ch Vijayaramana Rao locked the gates by refusing to release water into the distributary canal, he informed.

WFI To Function At 'No Cost To Government' Model If Suspension Isn't Lifted

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Friday decided at its Special General Meeting (SGM) that it will start functioning at ‘no cost to the government’ model if its request to lift the suspension is not considered by the Sports Ministry. The WFI had its SGM in Noida after the UWW (the sport’s world governing body) lifted its suspension and the IOA also dissolved the ad-hoc panel that was managing the affairs of the body.

The two developments paved the way for the elected office bearers to take back control of the federation, though the government is yet to lift its suspension.

The government had contended that the WFI flouted rules and put it under suspension, three days after it conducted polls to elect Sanjay Singh as president.

All 25 state associations attended the SGM even as secretary general Prem Chand Lochab, who is from the rival camp, skipped the meet.

“It was agreed that we will request the government to lift the suspension. The UWW has lifted the suspension and ad-hoc committee has also been dissolved, so there is no point of continuing with the suspension of the body,” a WFI source told PTI.

“If the ministry will not consider the request and decide against providing financial assistance, then we have decided unanimously that we will start functioning at no cost to the government,” added the source.

The government funds wrestlers’ training, competition and exposure trips to foreign countries.

If the WFI goes ahead with the plan then it will also have to arrange and conduct the national camps on its own.

Two-Third Majority Not Must For Election For New Post

The WFI also brought about an amendment to its Constitution to ensure that any candidate contesting the election for a new post is not required to win by a two-third majority.

“From now onwards only a simple majority will do if a joint secretary or a secretary decides to contest for a different post such as president. Only if a candidate is attempting to get elected to the post he is holding, he will be required to win by a two-third majority,” explained the source.

At WFI’s recent election Sanjay Singh was required to win the polls for the post of president by a two-third majority because he was a joint secretary in the previous dispensation.

Soc Recognition Not Required For States

The WFI has removed from its Constitution the clause that required a state association to fulfil the condition of having recognition from the State Olympic Committee (SOC) to get affiliated with the national body.

“From now onwards only WFI recognition is enough for a state association. A few state bodies had misused this clause to present them as genuine bodies despite suspension from WFI. They showed SOC recognition to claim that they are genuine affiliated state bodies. We have done away with this,” informed the source.

All States To Follow National Sports Code

All the 25 state bodies were asked to ensure that the Sports Code is followed while conducting the elections and functioning. Age and tenure guidelines will have to be followed by all.

BRS leaders condemn Kadiyam Srihari’s move to Join Congress

They labelled him as a political opportunist who lacked integrity, despite enjoying numerous positions in the party.

Warangal: BRS leaders from the erstwhile Warangal district unleashed a scathing attack on Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari and his daughter Kavya for purportedly seeking to join the Congress party.

Reminding that he got elected as MLA from the BRS, they demanded for Srihari’s immediate resignation from his post. They labelled him as a political opportunist who lacked integrity, despite enjoying numerous positions in the party.

Speaking to media persons at the party office in Hanamkonda, BRS district president and former MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said Srihari’s arrogance and manipulative politics, caused severe loss to the party, leading to the departure of committed party members like MP Pasunuri Dayakar and former MLA Aroori Ramesh from the party. He accused Srihari of causing internal discord within the party by filing false complaints against fellow leaders with the party leadership for his survival.

Further, Vinay Bhaskar lambasted Srihari for betraying the party’s trust despite holding significant positions such as MLA, Deputy CM, and MLC, alleging that his actions were driven by personal motives and ambitions for his daughter’s political career. He termed Srihari’s actions as unacceptable.

Former MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy castigated Srihari over his plans to defect to the Congress, accusing him of engaging in opportunistic politics. He demanded him to resign for his MLA post before quitting the party. He pointed out the contradiction between Srihari’s professed values and his actions.

4 Arrested Over Moscow Attack That Killed 143, Says Islamic State Group

4 Arrested Over Moscow Attack That Killed 143, Says Islamic State Group

Moscow has detained 12 people and charged eight with “terror-related offences”

Baghdad, Iraq:

The Islamic State group said Friday four of its members had been arrested after they attacked a concert hall near Moscow killing 143 people, a day after Russia blamed Ukraine.

On March 22, gunmen opened fire at the Crocus City concert hall near Moscow, setting the venue alight and wounding 80 people.

Moscow has detained 12 people and charged eight with “terror-related offences” over their alleged roles in the attack. They include four suspects from Tajikistan who are accused of carrying it out, Russian state media said.

IS swiftly claimed the attack, although Moscow has said repeatedly that the attackers had links to “Ukrainian nationalists” — a claim Kyiv rejects.

In the latest issue of its weekly Al-Nabaa magazine published Friday on Telegram channels, the group said its fighters had been hunted down by ground and air forces.

The operation ended when the men were surrounded in “a forest”, IS said, adding that they were now in “captivity”.

A Moscow court has remanded the four main suspects in custody until May 22 — a date likely to be extended until their trial.

Russia has been a repeated target of attack by IS, in retaliation for its suppression of unrest in Muslim-majority regions and its support for President Bashar al-Assad’s government in the civil war in Syria.

After US, Germany, UN Comment On Arvind Kejriwal, Vice President's Rejoinder

Mr Dhankhar emphasised that “equality before law is the new norm” in India.

New Delhi:

Stressing that India is a unique democracy, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has said the country does not need lessons from anyone on the rule of law. His comments came after Germany, the US and the United Nations made remarks on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The questions posed to representatives of the US and the UN, which triggered the comments, were also about the freezing of the Congress’ bank accounts.

Speaking at an event on Friday, the Vice President said, “India is a democracy with a robust judicial system. This can’t be compromised by any individual or any group. India does not need lessons from anyone on rule of law.”

Mr Dhankhar emphasised that “equality before law is the new norm” in India and those who thought they are beyond the law are being held accountable.

In a possible reference to the AAP’s planned rally against Mr Kejriwal’s arrest at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday, which will be attended by several leaders from the INDIA alliance, the Vice President said, “But what do we see? The moment the law takes its course, they take to the streets, high-decibel debates, camouflaging culpability of the worst nature by human rights. This is happening under our nose,” he added.

Describing the Indian judicial system as robust, independent and pro-people, he asked, “What is the justification for a person or an institution or an organisation to take to the streets when the law is set in motion?”

Addressing the 70th Founders’ Day celebrations of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Mr Dhankhar also said people engaging in the “transgression of law” are now playing the victim card.

“Corruption is not a passage to opportunity, employment or a contract anymore. It is a passage to jail… Can you go on a high moral ground that the corrupt must not be dealt with because it is a festive season or it is farming season? How can there be any season to save those who are culpable,” the Vice President asked.

After the remarks by representatives of the US and Germany, India had summoned their envoys. It had termed the comments “unwarranted”, “biased” and “unacceptable”, but has not reacted to the statement by a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres so far.
