Mayank Yadav IPL Salary: How Much Did LSG Pay For Young Pacer?

Mayank Yadav picked up 3 wickets against PBKS© BCCI/Sportzpics

Making his Indian Premier League debut, 2 years since being signed by Lucknow Super Giants in the auction, Mayank Yadav delivered a match-winning performance with the ball as his franchise defeated Punjab Kings on Saturday. Mayank ripped through Punjab’s batting unit, bagging three important wickets. As Mayank made waves for the Super Giants on his maiden IPL outing, his IPL salary also became a big talking point on social media. Going by his performance, it’s fair to say that Mayank isn’t actually earning in accordance to what he offers.

The young pacer was signed for a paltry fee of INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2022 auction. He didn’t feature in even a single match that season and was ruled out of the 2023 campaign due to an injury. Expect the young pacer from Delhi to fetch a bumper contract in the IPL 2025 auction.

As for the match, in reply to LSG’s 199 runs, PBKS openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Naistow started off the chase with a possitive and aggressive approach. Both batters put on a 50-run partnership in the 5.1 overs Dhawan slammed a boundary on the bowling of left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan.

Dhawan completed his fifty as he slammed a six on the bowling of right-arm leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi on the fourth ball of the eighth over.

Both the openers completed their 100-run partnership as Dhawan pushed the ball for the double on the second ball of the 11th over bowled by Bishnoi.

Mayank took his maiden wicket of his IPL career as he dismissed Bairstow on the fourth ball of the 12th over. The right-hand batter was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs off just 29 balls, which were laced with three fours and three sixes each in the innings. He built an outstanding partnership of 102 runs with Dhawan.

In the same over in which he dismissed Bairstow, the 21-year-old speedster bowled a fiery delivery to the PBKS skipper, which was 155.08 kms/hr.

Soon after the first wicket, the momentum shifted towards the LSG side. The young Indian bowler grabbed the wickets of Prabhsimran Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma in the 14th and 16th over respectively.

Young right arm pacer finished his first spell of IPL with a figures of 4-0-27-3.

Nagpur:

Avowing abiding confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of 370 seats, BJP leader Nitin Gadkari says the additional seats to its current strength of 288 will come from gains in southern India in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In a wide-ranging interview with the news agency PTI at his residence in Nagpur, Mr Gadkari said there is “no doubt” in his mind that the BJP-led NDA will cross 400 seats and that Narendra Modi will take over as prime minister for a third term because of the solid work done by the government in the last 10 years.

He dismissed allegations that the Modi government is “weaponising” central probe agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and CBI to weaken the opposition, saying BJP’s rivals should make efforts to overcome adversity by winning the confidence of the people.

“Is it our responsibility to make the opposition weak or strong? When we had just two MPs and were weak, we never got any package out of sympathy,” Mr Gadkari, who is seeking a third Lok Sabha term from Nagpur, said.

Mr Gadkari launched his campaign with a massive road show on Saturday through Nagpur, his motorcade crawling through a sea of supporters who withstood 40 degrees Celsius temperature to welcome the local hero. The programme, which was to take two hours ended four hours later as supporters covered him with gulal and insisted on offering him snacks every time he stopped.

Mr Gadkari said the BJP emerged stronger over the years due to the sheer hard work of its workers and the opposition too has to make efforts to earn the people’s confidence.

“The nature of democracy is such that this keeps changing. Whatever role you play, you always have to make efforts and overcome adversity. This is important for any opposition party,” he said.

He was also asked to explain the arithmetic of 370 seats for BJP and more than 400 seats for the National Democratic Alliance, given that they have already maxed out in their stronghold states.

“There is no need to make a state-wise analysis. This time we will taste success in the South. The work we have done in the south and the northeast over the last 10 years under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership… we have started getting results of the same,” he said.

“We have worked hard in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. We had very little presence in these states. This time we will do well in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We have been performing well in north India. So, I feel the BJP will alone get 370 seats and the NDA will cross 400,” Mr Gadkari said.

The senior BJP leader said the people of the country want to see development and have faith in the leadership of PM Modi, which will be reflected in the elections.

To a question on the claims by certain quarters that the BJP will fall short of the majority mark, which in turn could trigger a race for the post of prime minister, Mr Gadkari responded vehemently: “Not at all!”

“We are completely confident that we will get a complete majority and will also cross the 400 mark and Narendra Modi ji will become the country’s prime minister for the third consecutive term. There is no doubt about this in my mind,” he said.

Questioned about his personal agenda for the centenary celebrations of the RSS in 2025, the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, Mr Gadkari said his “personal agenda” was only towards his constituency that has elected him.

“I do not have any personal agenda. RSS will spell out its agenda. Whatever their expectations, it is our responsibility to fulfil them,” he said.

He was also asked if there is lack of level playing field in the elections due to the arrest of opposition leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and the income tax notices amounting to Rs. 3,500 crore on the Congress party.

The Union minister said the law was “taking its own course” and the BJP or the government had nothing to do with it.

“We have not taken any action on our own. The cases have been registered as per the law. This has nothing to do with the BJP or Modi ji. The agencies keep doing their jobs,” Mr Gadkari said.

The senior BJP leader dismissed opposition allegations of the government weaponising the ED, CBI and Income Tax department, which were taking action in cases related to opposition leaders.

“This is completely wrong. We are not weaponising anybody. The law takes its own course. Now, if Rs 300-400 crore are found in anybody’s home, people also see it. Then there is an inquiry. If anyone has done wrong, action is taken. If anybody is aggrieved, they have the option to move court,” he said.

Mr Gadkari was also dismissive about the uproar over the revelations of donations made through electoral bonds and said it was but natural for the BJP, which is the ruling party, to get a major share in the donations.

“Even in television media, those who have greater TRP get a good rate in advertisement. Those who have less TRP, get advertisements at a lower rate. Today, we are the ruling party, hence we got more donations. If tomorrow any other party comes to power, it will get more donations,” he said.

Mr Gadkari said the ground reality was every political party required money and there was need to find a legal way to raise resources.

“I do not wish to say anything as the matter is sub-judice. After the Supreme Court has its say, all political parties should get together. In some countries, the government finances political parties. We will have to look for some options, this is what I feel,” he said.

Mr Gadkari said there is no substance in the opposition’s claims that the BJP is indulging in “washing machine politics” — absolving opposition figures facing corruption charges if they agree to join the party.

“There is no such thing. The law takes its own course. The agencies do their work on the basis of the evidence they gather. This allegation is completely wrong and baseless. No such work takes place,” he said, responding to opposition allegations of BJP being a “great washing machine”.

On the CBI clean chit to NCP leader Praful Patel in the Air India corruption case, Mr Gadkari said the action had nothing to do with the BJP or the prime minister.

“The truth came out in the inquiry,” he said.

Mr Gadkari recalled former prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s remarks on remaining true to the ideology and the principles of the party when asked about any advice to the opposition to revive itself.

“Having a difference of opinion is necessary for a democracy. But the real problem is having no opinion. (Aaj hamarey desh mein mat bhinnata yeh loktantra ke liye awashyak bhi hai. Usmey problem nahi hai. Para mat shunyata yeh hamari samasya hai.) Whatever party you are in and its ideology, it is important to stand by it with conviction – in victory or in defeat,” he said.

“I remember when I entered politics against the Emergency and started working with Jayprakash ji, the conditions were not favourable for us. But we kept on working in adverse conditions and one day Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the prime minister. Today, Modi has ruled the country for the last 10 years. Sure, the people give you an opportunity, but you have to have patience and work hard,” Mr Gadkari said.

Mr Gadkari who won with a margin of more than two lakh seats in the 2019 elections said his goal this time is to win by a five lakh margin. He said he is confident of getting minority and Dalit votes this time. Pitted against him is Vikas Thakre of the Congress, a former mayor of Nagpur who also has good grassroots connect with people.

BJP won 303 seats on its own in the 2019 elections but its tally in the outgoing Lok Sabha is now 288. This follows some bypoll losses and resignations of some MPs after they recently moved to state assemblies.

'He's A Property Developer, For God's Sake': Ex Advisor Jabs Trump

In a sharp criticism of former US President Donald Trump, ex-US National Security Adviser (NSA) has said that he “hasn’t got the brains” to helm a dictatorship, reported The Telegraph.

John Bolton, who is a vocal critic of Donald Trump, has served the former president as the NSA from April 2018 to September 2019.

In a conversation with the French outlet Le Figaro, Mr Bolton was asked whether Mr Trump had tendencies that mirror dictators like the ones Mr Trump has previously praised.

Responding to the question the 75-year-old not only mocked Mr Trump’s intellectual capacity but also disparaged his professional background.

As per The Telegraph on Friday, Mr Bolton said, “People don’t believe [Joe Biden]. Neither do I, because it’s not true! Firstly, regarding the possibility of overthrowing the (American) republic, let’s be clear: Donald Trump is not Julius Caesar!”

When questioned if he thinks Mr Trump had Julius Caesar-like dictatorial tendencies, John Bolton exclaimed, “He hasn’t got the brains! He’s a property developer, for God’s sake!”

It must be noted that Mr Bolton’s remark comes a few months after Mr Trump said that he would act like a dictator only on “day one” if he returned to the Oval Office.

Back in December 2023, American writer Sean Hannity during an interview in Iowa asked Mr Trump, “Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?”

“Except for day one,” Mr Trump replied. The former president repeated his assertion. “I love this guy,” he said about Sean Hannity.

Mr Trump added, “He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said: ‘No, no, no, other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.’”

As per a report by The Guardian, Mr Trump’s statements meant he would use his presidential powers to shut the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling.

Meanwhile, John Bolton in his conversation with Le Figaro also added, “I think it’s very likely that he would leave NATO if re-elected. Trump, when he has an idea, comes back to it again and again, then gets distracted, and forgets, but eventually comes back to it and acts on it. That’s why leaving NATO is a real possibility. A lot of people think it’s just a negotiating tool, but I don’t think so.”

Gaza truce talks to resume in Egypt after UNSC ceasefire demand

Egypt is set to host a fresh round of indirect talks between representatives from the Israeli regime and the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement aimed at reaching a truce in Gaza just days after the adoption of a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, and France convened on Saturday in the capital Cairo, where they issued a joint call for an urgent and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

An Israeli official told the Reuters news agency that Israel would send a delegation to the Cairo talks on Sunday. A Hamas official, however, told Reuters the group would wait to hear from Cairo mediators on the outcome of their talks with Israel first.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Cairo, France’s top diplomat Stephane Sejourne said his government would put forward a draft resolution at the UN Security Council setting out a “political” settlement of the war.

He said the text would include “all the criteria” for a so-called two-state solution of the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Sejourne further warned that the ongoing tragedy in Gaza does not serve the security of the Israeli regime and Jewish illegal settlers.

Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called for holding Israel accountable for its aggression in Gaza, which has persisted despite global condemnation.

Safadi stated, “If Israel challenges the entire world, then the world must take practical and effective steps to stop this madness, killing, and destruction.”

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, for his part, said Gaza “can endure no more destruction and humanitarian suffering”, and called on Israel to open its land crossings with the Strip to allow humanitarian aid.

Hamas has sought to parlay any deal into an end to the war and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Israel, however, has ruled this out, saying that even if there is a long pause in the fighting, the war will not end until Hamas is defeated.

Israel has outlined plans for a ground invasion in Rafah in southern Gaza, which potentially involve the evacuation of around 1.5 million citizens who are currently seeking shelter in the city.

The international community has expressed alarm over such plans, considering them to have further disastrous humanitarian implications.

Israel waged its brutal US-backed war on the Gaza Strip on October 7 after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

However, more than six months into the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has failed to achieve its objectives of “destroying Hamas” and finding Israeli captives despite killing at least 32,705 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring 75,190 others.

New Delhi: Calling BJP leaders “thugs,” former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said, “need to bring a coalition government” in the country.

He emphasized the necessity of transitioning to a coalition government stating that one party and one person’s government is dangerous for the country.

“Now, their (BJP’s) dream is of crossing 400 (seats). It is time that one party and one person’s government have to go because it has become dangerous for the country. We need to bring a coalition government now,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

Thackeray accused the BJP of embracing figures previously accused of corruption. “We are not here for the election campaign, we are here to protect democracy. BJP washed the people who they once alleged of corruption. They washed them in a washing machine and made them clean and invited them to join BJP. How can a party full of corrupts run the government?” Uddhav Thackeray said.

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other INDIA bloc leaders were present at the rally in Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

In a show of strength against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy scam and several other issues, the leaders of the INDIA bloc are holding the rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan today.

The grand rally was also graced by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren. China warns US-headed citizens of 'unwarranted interrogations, harassment'

China has warned those of its citizens, who plan on visiting the United States, about the likelihood of their facing “unwarranted interrogations and harassment.”

South China Morning Post carried the report on Saturday, citing the country’s ministry of foreign affairs.

The ministry said several Chinese students and company employees had been subjected to such treatment upon entering US airports.

Their phones, computers, and other luggage items were searched piece by piece and several people were banned from entering the country, it said.

“The ministry and the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in the US have lodged a solemn representation to the US, and we remind those who plan to travel to the US to be aware of these situations,” it said.

The paper cited Chinese media as reporting that over the past several months, at least eight Chinese students had been either searched, interrogated, or returned back from Washington Dulles International Airport alone, despite their holding valid travel documents.

Last month, ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said US authorities were “weaponizing” academic research.

The US State Department has also issued a so-called travel advisory for Americans planning to visit China.

Last year, China said the US had “disrupted” personnel exchanges between the countries.

Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning called such incidents “political and discriminatory law enforcement” and said they were caused by the “Cold War mentality” of some people in the US.

Nizamabad Collector asks poll staff to check flow of cash, liquor

Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu

Hyderabad: District Election Officer and Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu has asked the officials to curb illegal transportation of liquor, drugs and cash through the inter-State border during the elections.

During a joint meeting on the implementation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and illegal transportation of money and liquor at the collectorate, the Collector directed the officials to strengthen the security at the checkposts set up along the State borders.

Stating that integrated check posts have been set up with staff from excise, transport, commercial taxes and other departments, he asked the officials to check every vehicle thoroughly at the check posts. “Flying squad, video surveillance, statistical surveillance teams, video teams and sectoral officers should be alert and inform official concern about violation of model code of conduct,”he said.

The collector asked the excise officials to conduct raids on illegal stockpiles and transport of liquor. “Close Circuit cameras should be monitored in wine shops and the details of liquor sales in the months of March, April and May of last year should be provided to the AROs, to identify the current liquor sales,”he said.

Similarly, he asked the RTC and Railway officials to inform the authorities immediately if they come across any goods being sent through cargo services to be distributed among voters during the campaigning. Cases would be registered against those who violate the MCC under relevant sections of the laws, he said, adding that people could complain directly to the 1950 toll free number about violation of the MCC.
