How LSG's Impact Sub Pick vs PBKS Exposes IPL Rule Loophole – Explained

LSG defeated PBKS in their IPL 2024 match© BCCI

Lucknow Super Giants decided to use KL Rahul as a specialist batter during their IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings on Friday and replaced him with fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq as the Impact Substitute. LSG started the match with Quinton De Kock, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis as their overseas players and as a result, the decision to bring the Afghanistan cricketer as the Impact Sub was well within the IPL rules. However, the substitution took place during the LSG innings with Naveen coming out to bat at No. 9, the match officials found themselves in a situation that exposed a loophole in IPL rules.

Rahul came out to bat as the opening batter and scored 15 runs in 9 runs before he was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. Naveen replaced him in the playing XI and came out to bat at No. 9 but because of that, LSG actually had 12 eligible batters in their line-up. Mayank Yadav and M Siddharth were still there in the batting line-up with two wickets left and the IPL rule book does not have any provision for this kind of situation.

While LSG lost only 8 wickets, things could’ve been trickier for the officials to handle had the franchise lost 2 more wickets before the end of the innings.

As for the match, young pace bowler Mayank Yadav grabbed three wickets while Mohsin Khan took two as Lucknow Super Giants defeated Punjab Kings by 21 runs despite openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow‘s century partnership on Saturday.

Chasing a tough 200-run target for victory after LSG had made 199/8, Shikhar smashed a 50-ball 70, while Bairstow was equally belligerent in his 29-ball 42 as the duo amassed 102 runs for the opening wicket.

But Mayank struck when things were starting to look bleak for LSG, getting rid of Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma to return figures of 3/27. Mohsin chipped in with 2/34 as PBKS could only manage 178/5 in their 20 overs.

Earlier, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock (54), stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran (42) and Krunal Pandya (43) played some big shots as the hosts made a strong bid to win at home.

Sam Curran emerged the most successful PBKS bowler grabbing three wickets for 28 runs.

Mumbai's Bandra Worli Sea Link Toll Rates To Go Up By 18% From April 1

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link was opened to the public in 2009 (File)

New Delhi:

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has announced an 18% increase in toll charges for Mumbai’s Bandra Worli Sea Link from April 1. As per news agency PTI, this surge in the toll rates is limited to one-way journeys.

After the implementation of the surge rates, cars and jeeps, from Monday, will have to pay Rs 100, up from the current Rs 85.

On the other hand, minibus, tempos, and similar vehicles will have to pay Rs 160. Earlier, these vehicles paid Rs 130.

While two-axle trucks currently pay Rs 175, they will have to spend Rs 210 for a one-way trip from tomorrow.

The old rates were put in place in April 2021. The new rates will be in effect for three years – from April 1 to March 31, 2027.

The report added that the MSRDC officials announced a rebate of 10% for motorists and 20% on the purchase of booklets carrying 50 and 100 toll coupons in advance, respectively.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link was opened to the public in 2009. The cable-stayed bridge was named after former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi. It connects Mumbai’s Worli and Bandra, making it easy for commuters to avoid congestion in Dadar, Mahim, Prabhadevi, and Worli neighbourhoods.

In a big relief to commuters, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the Mumbai coastal road. The 9.6-km high-speed corridor also connects Worli with Marine Drive.

The coastal road has been constructed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

It proposes to connect the Marine Drive area in south Mumbai to Kandivali, a western suburb, via the existing Bandra Worli Sea Link and is expected to ease Mumbai’s northbound traffic.

BJP's Filmy Jibe At Uddhav Thackeray After He Attacks Party

BJP's Filmy Jibe At Uddhav Thackeray After He Attacks Party

File photo

Mumbai:

Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party president Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Sunday attacked Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and warned that several instances of corruption under the latter’s regime are ready to be unearthed.

Mr Thackeray had called the BJP as “Bhrashta Janata Party” and said it was continuously inducting tainted persons for political gains.

“If Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis makes movies on corrupt practices of the previous Uddhav Thackeray government, then they would be called Khichdi Files, COVID Body Bag Files, Waze or Laden Files. The script for Rs 100 Crore Recovery Files is ready,” Mr Bawankule said.

The BJP accuses the Shiv Sena (UBT) of involvement in alleged irregularities in the distribution of ‘khichdi’ during the pandemic, purchase of body bags for COVID victims as well as taking commission to award contracts.

“Instead of making sarcastic remarks, Thackeray should think about how he functioned from home when he was chief minister for two-and-half years. No matter how many sarcastic comments you make, the people of Maharashtra will give you a befitting reply,” Mr Bawankule said.

On Mr Thackeray’s charge that BJP leaders were ignoring strife-torn Manipur, the ruling party’s Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar said, “Uddhav Thackeray talks about Manipur. I am ready to pay the transportation cost for Thackeray if he is prepared to visit Malvani area in Mumbai and raise his voice against atrocities on some of our brothers.”

Mr Thackeray is the only leader in Maharashtra who never stood on his feet in politics, Mr Shelar claimed.

Hitting back at the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief’s corruption charge, Mr Shelar said Mr Thackeray’s statement was a classic case of double standards.

“When people were with him, they were clean. But the moment those people switched to the BJP, Thackeray started calling them corrupt. It seems he is changing the bar or parameters to decide who is corrupt and who is not.”

GT vs SRH LIVE: Pitch report

“It’s a warm afternoon here in Ahmedabad. Dimensions – if I am looking to cut/punch through the metres – 66 metres, dab towards third man – that’s 58 metres, pull/hook – 63 metres, scoop – 53 metres and down the ground – that’s 73 metres. On the surface, this looks a very good pitch. Looks like a batting beauty. It’s an absolute road, it looks like a tremendous wicket. There’s quite a nice breeze flowing across the ground, so that might help the players tremendously. It’s going to reach 38 or 40 degrees here. In the day games played here, teams batting first have scored 200, once it was defended and on another occasion it wasn’t. We’ve got Sunrisers Hyderabad up here. Sunrisers are gonna come here and they are gonna look at this wicket and they are going to think, ‘maybe we can get 270 again.’ There’s an even covering of grass, it’s a beautiful, beautiful wicket. In spite of this being a big stadium, plenty of runs here. You can chase down a big score. One thing the groundsman said, it’s black soil, moisture doesn’t stay too long, it’s a good surface to bat.”

Titans, the IPL 2022 winner and the current runners-up, are now placed seventh on the table with two points from as many matches after a win over Mumbai Indians and defeat against Chennai Super Kings.

  • 14:28 (IST)

GT vs SRH LIVE: Gujarat Titans on the back foot

Gujarat Titans started the campaign well with a win over Mumbai Indians but the loss against Chennai Super Kings have resulted in a lot of questions. The batting performance was not up to the mark and their bowling department still needs some polishing.

Tillu Square: Highly humorous extension of ‘Tillu-Radhika Panchayati’

Tillu Square opens with a recap of the story of DJ Tillu, covering the best one-liners of Tillu and Radhika.

Updated On – 31 March 2024, 03:35 PM

Tillu Square: Highly humorous extension of ‘Tillu-Radhika Panchayati’

Tillu Square, the sequel to the blockbuster DJ Tillu, is currently running in theaters. The film was written by the lead actor, Siddhu Jonnalagadda himself, along with the director, Mallik Ram. Sithara Entertainments produced the film. Anupama Parameswaran played the lead actress. Following the setup of its first part, Tillu Square is completely hilarious and is providing an extreme dose of entertainment to the audience at the cinemas.

Tillu Square opens with a recap of the story of DJ Tillu, covering the best one-liners of Tillu and Radhika. This time in Tillu Square, Tillu extends his work in the name of Tillu Events, besides just playing DJ. Tillu falls in love with Lilly, played by Anupama, and decides to marry her as she gets pregnant on their first intercourse. But as the events unfold, the true identity of Lilly gets revealed, which places Tillu’s life in danger again. This is the main course of the story of Tillu Square.

Tillu Square has that banger in the opening sequence itself, with the repetition of the DJ Tillu title track by Ram Miryala. Anupama Parameswaran was presented super hot on the screen so as to carry the spicy essence and elegance of the female leads in Tillu’s life. The chemistry between Siddhu and Anupama added a lot of weight. Siddhu’s one-liners in Tillu Square are much stronger than the first part. The punch lines and satires are at their best.

The best part of Tillu Square is its screenplay, which carries forward and unfolds the events of DJ Tillu. They are aligned and used so brilliantly in writing. Siddhu plays an impactful role this time in Tillu Square, and he himself quoted the same in a dialogue. The identity reveal of Anupama’s original shades at the interval block with the background score of Chandramukhi turned theaters into a bomb of laughing gas upon explosion.

The second half looked not very attractive on the go, but the laughing interruption is back with a surprise element and, of course, the most wanted extension of Part 1. This entire episode is the major highlight of the film. As the film progresses towards the climax, there is a minute of emotional infusion as an addition. Well, the climax is back in bang action with a little twist, but it ends on a commercial celebration again that doesn’t stick much to the natural flow of the film.

Siddhu Jonnalagadda carried the entire film on his shoulders. It’s totally Tillu’s world and Tillu’s rule. Tillu Square has a very good choice of music from the director, Mallik Ram. The production design looks grand with the increased budgets resulting from the successful first part at the box office. Well, the makers haven’t yet announced the third part of DJ Tillu at the end of this film, which became the trend now mostly, but the audiences do really root for this.

Car bomb blast kills 8, wounds over 20 in northwestern Syria

At least eight people have been killed and more than 20 others injured in a car bombing at a busy market in Syria’s northwestern province of Aleppo.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least “eight people were killed and 23 others wounded” when “a car bomb exploded in the middle of a popular market” in the militant-held town of Azaz, located roughly 32 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Aleppo, early on Sunday.

The Britain-based war monitor added that the blast caused “significant damage” and sparked a fire, adding that ambulances and rescue personnel were at the scene.

When the bomb went off, the market was busy with shoppers buying new clothes for their children ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan next month.

Footage of the aftermath showed bodies lying on the ground, damaged buildings and the remnants of a car on fire.

Azaz is run by pro-Turkish Takfiri militants opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Turkey has deployed forces in Syria in violation of the Arab country’s territorial integrity.

Ankara-backed militants were deployed to northeastern Syria in October 2019 after Turkish military forces launched a long-threatened cross-border invasion in a declared attempt to push militants of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) away from border areas.

Ankara views the US-backed YPG as a terrorist organization tied to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been seeking an autonomous Kurdish region in Turkey since 1984.

The Kurdish-led administration in northeastern Syria says the Turkish offensive has killed hundreds of civilians, including dozens of children, since it started.

Turkey has also played a major role in supporting terrorists in Syria ever since major foreign-backed militancy overtook the country more than ten years ago.
