People should be alert about land grabbers contesting in Karimnagar: Gangula

Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangul Kamalakar advised the people to be alert about land grabbers planning to contest from the Karimnagar assembly constituency in the next elections.

Unable to find a suitable candidate for Karimnagar, the Congress had decided to field a person who frequently goes to jail, the Minister said, without mentioning the name of Purumalla Srinivas, who is said to be a frontrunner for the Congress seat in Karimnagar constituency.

The Minister, participating in Mudiraj and Munnuru Kapu caste Atmeeya Sammelanams held in Karimnagar rural mandal on Wednesday, said people should be careful while exercising their vote, since if a wrong person was voted to power, the people would suffer like the public in Karnataka were suffering.

With a single mistake done by merging Telangana with Andhra in 1956, local people faced severe hardships and resources from the region had been shifted to Andhra. Telangana would go 50 years back if the same mistake was repeated by voting for the Congress. he said.

Stating that all surveys are in favor of BRS, he appealed to the people to strengthen the ruling party by re-electing Chandrashekhar Rao as the Chief Minister for the third time and take forward the developmental and welfare activities.

On the occasion, activists from BJP and Congress joined BRS in the presence of the Minister.

Iran, Russia demand cessation of Israel's atrocities in besieged Gaza

Senior Iranian and Russian diplomats have expressed serious concern over the brutal Israeli onslaught against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, calling for an end to the horrendous crimes being perpetrated by the Tel Aviv regime in the besieged coastal territory.

Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior aide on political affairs to Iran’s foreign minister and the visiting Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev exchanged viewpoints about unfolding developments in the West Asia region during a meeting in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed Israeli crimes against the oppressed people of Gaza, and voiced their deep concern over the brutal killing of civilians.

They also demanded an immediate end to Israel’s vicious attacks, a ceasefire as well as dispatch of international humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Khaji blamed the United States’ generous support for Israel as the main reason behind assaults against the residents of the Gaza Strip and massacre of thousands of women and children, saying, “Such crimes can be best described as collective punishment and genocide.”

The two senior diplomats went on to exchange opinions about the latest developments in Syria, including the most recent political status quo, as well as  initiatives by Tehran and Moscow to help improve the economic and humanitarian situation in the country and advance political process in the war-battered Arab nation.

Lavrentiev also held separate meetings with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, and delivered Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message to his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raeisi.

Israel waged a genocidal war on the blockaded Gaza Strip on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups carried out Operation al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity.

Since the start of the aggression, the regime has been committing war crimes in Gaza, killing at least 8,796 people, including 3,648 children and 2,290 women, according to officials.

Around 2,000 people are still missing, including 1,100 children. The vast majority of these people are believed to be dead and buried under rubble. At least 22,219 people have been wounded.

Israel has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Irlish FM calls for 'humanitarian ceasefire' in Gaza

In a statement on Wednesday, Martin said he was shocked by the Israeli regime bombing of the Jabalya refugee camp, Breaking News reported.

“We now urgently need a humanitarian ceasefire and a significant scaling up of humanitarian access to get vital supplies to civilians. We cannot wait any longer.”

“UN Secretary-General Guterres has been clear that international humanitarian law cannot be applied selectively. The law of war always applies,” he said.

“UNRWA said yesterday that more children have been killed in Gaza since October 7 than have been killed in all conflicts globally since 2019. We cannot allow this to continue.

This has to stop. With the unfolding tragedy in Gaza, the European Union has been calling since last week for humanitarian corridors and pauses for humanitarian needs.

The EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said he was “appalled by the high number of casualties following the bombing by Israel of the Jabalia refugee camp”.

The European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell on Wednesday said he was “appalled” by the high number of casualties from the bombing by the Israeli regime of a refugee camp in Gaza and called for fighting parties to respect the international rules of war, Reuters reports.

Pawan Kalyan’s AP track record worries Telangana BJP leaders

“When he could not do much in AP where he had fairly good support base, how can one expect him to perform well in Telangana where his party hardly has any presence?” a BJP leader said.

Pawan Kalyan’s AP track record worries Telangana BJP leaders

Hyderabad: The BJP’s banking on actor-turned-politician and Jana Sena Party (JSP) founder Pawan Kalyan, who has not had much of a success in his home State of Andhra Pradesh, for winning seats in Telangana is being viewed as a futile exercise by several BJP leaders. In fact, many State BJP leaders are against the proposed poll alliance with the Jana Sena Party.

The BJP leaders argue that expecting miracles from Pawan Kalyan, who had a disastrous electoral debut in Andhra Pradesh, wherein he himself lost from both the Assembly seats he contested, was not correct and that the alliance with his party may prove counterproductive for BJP. “When he could not do much in AP where he had fairly good support base, how can one expect him to perform well in Telangana where his party hardly has any presence?” a BJP leader said.

The BJP leaders point out that Jana Sena had contested five seats in 2019 Lok Sabha polls and lost deposits in all of them and expecting the party founder to help BJP to win seats in the upcoming assembly polls did not look practical. Though Pawan Kalyan has a huge fan following in Telangana too, but going by the AP experience, it did not look like the fan following would convert into votes, they said.

But some senior BJP leaders, who are keen to have alliance with Jana Sena, claim that in the areas in and around Hyderabad, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Medak and Nalgonda that border Andhra Pradesh, the Jana Sena has pockets of influence which could be beneficial for the BJP. Apart from that Pawan Kalyan’s influence as a movie star could prove advantageous to BJP in several seats, especially constituencies in Khammam district, they claim.

Sources in the BJP said that the Jana Sena could be given 5-10 seats in areas where they have influence.

"Kids Should Live Without Fear": Rohit's Concern Over Mumbai's Pollution

The unease in his voice was palpable as India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday expressed deep concern about the vitiated air quality in Indian cities, saying the current situation is not ideal and it is important that future generations “get to live without fear”. As is the scenario every winter, a deadly mix of fog and smoke has adversely affected Mumbai and Delhi — the cities hosting World Cup matches. There are several factors contributing to the worsening air quality and BCCI swinging to action has announced that it won’t allow display of fireworks during the remaining World Cup games in Delhi and Mumbai.

“In an ideal world you do not want a situation like this but I am pretty sure that the concerned people are taking the necessary steps to avoid this kind of situation. It is not ideal and everyone knows that,” Rohit said on the eve of the match against Sri Lanka in the financial capital of the country.

Rohit, who has a five-year-old daughter, said the future generations deserve a clean environment.

“Looking at our future generations, your kids, my kid. Obviously it is important that they get to live without any fear. Every time I get to speak outside of cricket, or not discussing cricket I always talk about this. We have to look after our future generations,” the captain said.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the “very poor” category for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday with an air quality index (AQI) of 372.

The pollution situation has been alarming in Mumbai as well.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday expressed concern over the “deteriorating” air quality index in Mumbai while taking suo motu (on its own) cognisance of the issue.

Sri Lanka are scheduled to travel to Delhi for their match against Bangladesh on November 6, while Mumbai will host two more league games, on November 2 and November 7, and the semifinal on November 15. In 2017, the Sri Lankan players were forced to wear masks while on field in New Delhi during the third match of the Test series. The then Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal had expressed concern and said his players were not comfortable on the field.

The Indian cricket Board has said that it is “sensitive to environmental concerns.” “I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level,” said BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

“The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront. The BCCI acknowledges the urgent concern surrounding air quality in both Mumbai and New Delhi.

“While we strive to host the ICC World Cup in a manner befitting the celebration of cricket, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prioritising the health and safety of all our stakeholders.”

BJP State spokesperson Rakesh Reddy resigns

Hanamkonda: In a significant development, Anugula Rakesh Reddy, the official spokesperson of the BJP in the State, tendered his resignation from the party on Wednesday. Reddy’s decision comes in the wake of alleged harassment by the Hanamkonda district president, Rao Padma Reddy, and a lack of support from the party’s State leadership. Padma was offered the BJP’s ticket for the Warangal West.

Reddy, who had been associated with the BJP for over a decade, said he had worked to enhance the arty’s public image. Speaking to the media and his supporters in Hanamkonda, he said he was treated “very badly by the party district leadership” and that his followers were also harassed by the party.

Reddy said the party had failed to acknowledge his contributions and the widespread recognition and support he had garnered from the people of Telangana, despite the party’s apparent indifference. He also voiced his scepticism about the BJP’s future, accusing the party of being unwelcoming to youth and of exploiting young members in the name of ideology.

In a parallel political development, Congress leader Janga Raghava Reddy, former DCCB president, expressed concerns about the Congress party’s decision to nominate Naini Rajender Reddy, stating that the Congress should grant tickets only to those who were steadfast supporters of the party during challenging times.

Raghava Reddy hinted at the possibility of competing independently if needed and suggested that he might consider contesting from the All India Forward Block Party if the Congress does not reconsider its choices.

Iran defeated by Philippines in Olympics qualifier

The Philippines took the lead in the 19th minute when Alicia Barker was put through on the right and her cutback found Sofia Harrison, who saw her shot parried by Zahra Kajavi but Tahnai Annis was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

The Southeast Asian side were in control for much of the first half but just before the half-time break, Iran had a chance to equalize but Zahra Ghanbari’s attempt in added time was pushed away by Olivia McDaniel.

Iran looked the better side after the break with the dangerous Ghanbari dominating midfield and even striking the crossbar in the 50th minute, forcing Mark Torcaso to make four changes in the 56th minute – including bringing on Jessica Miclat for goalscorer Annis.

The quadruple substitutions took the sting out of Iran’s momentum with the game becoming a more balanced affair for the remainder of the match as the Philippines hung on for their second win.

Maryam Azmoun’s girls lost to hosts Australia 2-0 in their first match and were held to a goalless draw by Chinese Taipei.
