New Delhi:

Going for a movie or an interview and want to safely keep your handbag or cameras for a few hours at some place, well, Delhi Metro commuters can do that now by renting digital lockers at 50 of its stations through a new mobile app launched on Wednesday.

Delhi Metro is the first mass rapid transit system in the country to introduce such unique facilities for commuters, officials said.

The app — ‘Momentum 2.0’ — also allows commuters to do online purchasing from listed e-commerce companies through ‘virtual stores’ located at 20 metro stations, send a courier via a smart box (digi-locker) and buy QR code-based tickets.

The cutting-edge mobile application which seeks to enhance the experience of metro riders beyond travelling has taken a year and a half in the making, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to expand the ‘virtual stores’ and ‘digi-lockers’ facilities to majority of its stations by June 2024.

Delhi Metro’s network spans 393 kilometres with 288 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida corridor and the Rapid Metro in Gurugram.

The app was formally launched by DMRC’s Managing Director, Vikas Kumar at the Shivaji Stadium metro station.

PTI in February 2022 had reported on this visionary project when it was in its infancy stage and the DMRC had hired a top consulting firm to work on the plan.

Using ‘Momentum 2.0’, which can be downloaded on both Android and iOS phones, a commuter can rent a ‘smart box’ (digi-locker) at any of the 50 stations on Lines 1-7 and the Airport Line, on the go.

These stations include, Rajiv Chowk, Millennium City Centre Gurugram, Dwarka Sector 10, Supreme Court, Pul Bangash, Netaji Subhash Place, Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda), Dilshad Garden, Noida City Centre, Anand Vihar, Tughlakabad, Sarita Vihar, Moolchand and IP Extension.

“Using this app, a person can rent a locker at any of these stations, from a minimum of one hour and up to six hours. The penal amount will be charged if the time limit exceeds beyond the period for which the digi-locker has been rented,” Anurag Bajpai, founder of AutoPe Payment Solution, told PTI.

The new app, a joint initiative of Delhi Metro and AutoPe Payment Solutions Pvt. Ltd., seeks to provide seamless access to metro rides while making the commute time count.

“Think of these digi-lockers akin to the ‘cloakroom’ facility provided at stations of the Indian Railways, but the metro facility is driven by an app powered by a cutting-edge digital platform, which enhances the experience of riders while allowing them an option to do more than travel all while on the go,” a senior official of the DMRC told news agency PTI.

These ‘smart boxes’ have been installed in a grid format and each station has a set of 83-90 digital lockers, with a console at the centre.

“For renting a digi-locker, a user will have to go to the interface of the app, which shows the option of ‘rent-a-locker’, and once it is pressed, it asks the user to select a metro station, date, time, and duration of renting in the number of hours, and locker size – small (Rs 20 per hour), medium (Rs 30 per hour) or large (Rs 40 per hour), and the available time slots,” Bajpai said.

After payment, a PIN number will be generated which will be displayed on the app interface, and which is valid for both drop and pick-up of a package.

For dropping a package, a user will have to choose the ‘drop package’ tab from the home page of the console, and then after entering the authorised PIN, the digi-locker will open automatically, without any manual intervention, Bajpai said.

There is no physical lock or key in this system, it is all a digital platform-driven system, he said.

For making an online purchase from a ‘virtual store’, a user needs to just scan a QR code displayed on a wall of the set up at a metro station, and then it will ask for the station at which the delivery is to be made.

“After scanning the code, the item on sale will be displayed, and then payment can be done and the destination station needs to be mentioned where the item will be delivered. It will be kept in a digi-locker from which it can be picked up by the buyer later,” another senior official of AutoPe Payment Solutions said.

For using the courier service, a user can choose the service from the app, and mention the address where a courier needs to be sent and then choose the station where it is being deposited, Bajpai said.

The courier will then be picked by the partner courier agency, so a user won’t have to go to a post office or a courier agency, and the package will be delivered at its destination, he said, adding, “The future plan is to have a hyperlocal courier delivery, wherein a courier can be picked up by the recipient from a metro station only on the dame day when it is delivered”.

The app also offers the option to buy QR code-based tickets for all metro lines, including the Airport Line, eliminating the need of multiple apps in turn enhancing user experience, the DMRC said.

In addition, a Delhi Metro smart card’s recharging as well as transaction details of the card can also be seen in the app. There is also an option for commuters to give standing instructions in the app for ‘auto top-up’ in case the balance falls below a minimum defined value, it said.

The users will also be able to pay utility bills such as electricity bills, gas bills, mobile bills, DTH bills, FASTag payments, etc easily, the DMRC added.

At a metro station, the app also provides station-related information, along with details of the location of facilities, gates, lifts, escalators, platforms and first and last train timings. As the time of arrival is based on the destination, a bike or cab can be made ready to receive a passenger at the exact time in the designated area, officials said.

Food outlets or ATMs can also be located with the app. Also, it offers information on shops, outlets, kiosks, and ATMs available at metro stations, they said.

"Lot Of Clothes Thrown At Me": Singer Shubh On 'Assassination' Hoodie Row

'Lot Of Clothes Thrown At Me': Singer Shubh On 'Assassination' Hoodie Row

Shubh also said that people hold things against him no matter what he does.

New Delhi:

After being slammed for holding up a hoodie that allegedly had the date and an illustration of Indira Gandhi’s assassination on a map of Punjab, singer Shubh has released a statement indicating that it was thrown at him by someone in the audience. Shubh has also said that people hold things against him no matter what he does.

The Punjabi singer had been at the centre of a controversy in September as well, when his India tour had been cancelled for his alleged support of Khalistan.

The latest row erupted after a concert in London on October 29, when the singer held up the hoodie. Releasing a statement on Instagram on Tuesday, the singer wrote, “No matter what I do, some people will find something to bring it against me. A lot of clothes, jewellery and phones were thrown at me by the audience at my first show in London.”

Stating that his team had worked hard on the concert, he added, ” I was there to perform, not to see what got thrown at me and what is on it. The team has worked very hard for the last couple of months to perform for you all. Stop spreading hate and negativity.”

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

While many on the internet attacked the singer immediately after the concert, he had maintained silence on the issue. Some handles had also claimed that there was nothing related to the former prime minister’s assassination on the hoodie and it simply had a map of Punjab.

In September, in the wake of the India-Canada diplomatic row over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an old post of Shubh made people threaten to boycott BookMyShow, after which his India tour was cancelled.

In the post in January, the singer had shared a distorted map of India on his Instagram story, which omitted the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and the Northeastern states. Along with the picture, the singer wrote, “Pray for Punjab”.

The singer had later deleted the post and replaced it with a message that read “Pray for Punjab”, without any photo.

The singer’s real name is Shubhneet Singh and Shubh is his stage name. He released his first song, We Rolling, in September 2021 which became an instant hit. Chartbusters like Elevated, OG and Cheques have added to his fame.

As per People, she shared the snapshot on her Instagram page and simply captioned the post, “Happy halloweeeeen”. Hudgens’ witchy look occurred one day after the hit musical ‘Wicked’ celebrated its 20th anniversary on Monday.

Palestinian rescuers searched for victims in Gaza on Wednesday after Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Jabalia refugee camp, reportedly killing hundreds.

Footage shows damaged buildings, rescue workers and locals pulling victims out of the rubble and covering them with blankets.

An Israeli airstrike reportedly struck apartment blocks in a residential area of the Jabalia refugee camp on Tuesday.

Approximately 400 individuals are believed to have been killed or injured, as reported by the health ministry. Initial reports from Gaza authorities indicated at least 50 casualties resulting from Israeli airstrikes on the camp. However, subsequent estimates suggest that the death toll may have reached 100 and continues to rise, according to local media sources.

A statement from the Hamas military wing also confirmed the deaths of seven captives, including three individuals with foreign passports.

The Israeli side confirmed the strikes, stating that they targeted a high-ranking Hamas commander in the area, according to an IDF spokesperson.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7, firing thousands of rockets as its militants on the ground broke through into Israeli territory, in what the group described as ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’.

Israel responded with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip and issued a formal declaration of war on Hamas, warning residents to leave their homes. The military claimed that Hamas locations would be targeted.

Israel’s minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant also announced a ‘complete siege’ of Gaza, cutting off power, food and water. Hamas said its latest military operation was due to the long-running Israeli blockade, raids on West Bank cities and other attacks.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has moved a writ petition in the Supreme Court against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for alleged inaction on his part to eight bills passed by the state legislature and presented to Governor for his assent under Article 200 of the Constitution.

With this, Arif Mohammed Khan will be the third Governor to face similar petitions in the top court alleging delay in clearing of bills, after Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Punjab’s Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

As per the petition, three bills have been pending before the Governor for more than two years.

“The conduct of the governor as would presently be demonstrated threatens to defeat and subvert the very fundamentals and basic foundations of our constitution, including the rule of law and democratic good governance, apart from defeating the rights of the people of the state to the welfare measures sought to be implemented through the Bills”, the petition read.

The Pending Bills include University Laws Amendment Bill (1st amendment) 2021 Bill no 50, University Laws Amendment Bill ( 1st amendment) 2021 Bill no 54, University Laws Amendment Bill ( 2nd amendment) 2021, Kerala Co-operative Societies Amendment Bill 2022, University Laws Amendment Bill 2022, Kerala Lokayukta Amendment Bill 2022, University Laws Amendment Bill 2022 and Public Health Bill 2021.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan pointed out, “As per the constitution, the Governor cannot unnecessarily delay the bills sent to him after the Assembly passes them.” Following this, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan raised concerns that CM Vijayan does not regularly provide updates on government activities, which he says is the constitutional duty of the Chief Minister.

In a similar move, the Tamil Nadu government had earlier moved the top court accusing Governor RN Ravi of obstructing the Legislative Assembly from carrying out its duties.

In its petition, the state government alleged that the governor has not only kept multiple bills pending but has also not sanctioned the investigation and prosecution in several corruption cases.

Also, the Punjab Government moved the Supreme Court against Governor Banwarilal Purohit for withholding his approval of Bills.
However, following this, Governor Purohit on Tuesday gave his assent to two Bills including The Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Indian Stamp (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2023.

"Can I Laugh, Is It Allowed?": Ramiz's Epic Reply To Manjrekar's Question

Ramiz Raja during a pre-match chat in World Cup© Twitter

Together with Babar Azam‘s Pakistan side, the team director Mickey Arthur is also under the spotlight owing to their poor Cricket World Cup 2023 performances. While comeback and semi-final qualification chances aren’t entirely ruled out for the Pakistan team, there remain only mathematical chances when it comes to securing a top 4 position. When Pakistan great Ramiz Raja was asked about a 1992-like comeback by former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar, the former gave a cheeky response.

Manjrekar and Ramiz were involved in a chat ahead of the start of Pakistan’s World Cup match against Bangladesh in Kolkata on Tuesday. This is when the conversation took place. Here’s how it went:

Sanjay Manjrekar:“Aapko lagta hain Mickey Arthur vo kar sakte hain jo Imran Khan ne 92 mein kiya tha (Can Mickey Arthur repeat what Imran Khan did in 1992)? “

Ramiz Raja:“Main thoda has lu, allowed hain (Can I laugh on this please? Is it allowed)?”

As for the match, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat against Pakistan in their World Cup match. Bangladesh brought back Towhid Hridoy in place of Mahedi Hasan to their playing eleven.

Pakistan made three changes bringing in Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman and Usama Mir in place of Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam also wanted to bat first but it was Shakib ho asked them to bowl after winning the toss.

“We would also like to bat first. There might be some swing in it early on because there is some moisture in it. Last match we were good in all three departments. There was some good energy. I am also waiting for a big innings, I will try to convert into a hundred. Three changes, Imam, Shadab and Nawaz out. Fakhar, Salman and Usama in,” Babar said after losing the toss.
