Iran chairs the United Nations Human Rights Council 2023 Social Forum for the first time.

The two-day meeting kicked off at the headquarters of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday, with Iran’s UN Ambassador Ali Bahraini being the chairperson.

More than 60 participants, including high-ranking officials, diplomats and non-governmental organizations, are expected to hold various expert meetings and discuss issues, including the role of science, technology and innovation in the promotion of human rights, especially after the coronovirus pandemic.

Back in May, Iran was appointed by the president of the UN Human Rights Council to be Chair of the UN Human Rights Council Social Forum.

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Iran’s appointment was a matter of regional rotation, “in consistency with established UN procedures.”

The Social Forum is an annual meeting convened by the Human Rights Council. It is a unique space for open and interactive dialogue between civil society, representatives of Member States, and intergovernmental organizations, on a theme chosen by the Council each year.

One of the key goals of the Forum is to promote social cohesion based on the principles of social justice, equity and solidarity as well as addressing the social dimension and challenges of the ongoing globalization process.

Madhya Pradesh Police's Filmy Take To Increase Cyber Crime Awareness

Madhya Pradesh Police's Filmy Take To Increase Cyber Crime Awareness

“Keep your OTP as safe as husband,” said Madhya Pradesh police (Representational)

Bhopal:

After Jai-Veeru politics in Madhya Pradesh, state police have also played a filmy stroke to make citizens aware in view of the increasing cyber crimes.

The state police has morphed a dialogue of Shahrukh Khan starrer movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ to make residents of the state to be sensible about the importance of an OTP (One Time Password).

Sharing the video on X (formerly twitter) on Wednesday evening from the official handle of Madhya Pradesh Police on the occasion of Karwa Chauth, they wrote, “Keep your OTP as safe as husband.”

In the shared video, it could be heard that, “Ek OTP ki kimat tum kya jano Ramesh babu (What do you know about the cost of an OTP, Ramesh Babu?).” While the original dialogue in the movie is, “Ek chutki sindoor ki kimat tum kya jaano Ramesh Babu.”

The state police has been continuously making efforts in making people aware about the increasing crimes in the state and also active in controlling the cyber crimes in the state.

Recently, Bhopal cyber police busted a gang involved in duping people by cloning their ATM cards and arrested two persons, including a Romanian citizen in connection from New Delhi.

Apart from this, the reel characters of famous superhit Bollywood movie ‘Sholay’ have found a real character space in the Madhya Pradesh politics. Recently, a Congress leader has compared the friendship of former chief ministers Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh as ‘Jai-Veeru’ while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is claiming the duo as thieves.

Hyderabad: From code switching, code mixing, to multilingual and translingual practices, new strategies have been rolled out for effective transaction in English medium in the government and local schools in the State. The classroom transaction includes teaching-learning, content, assessment etc.

To improve students’ reading skills besides building their vocabulary, the School Education department has instructed the government schools to adopt multilingual and translingual practices.

Now on, concepts particularly in non-language subjects will be introduced using a suitable activity, experiment or game. For this, necessary instructions for the activity will be given in Telugu/Urdu, while the key terminology will be used in English for students till Class VII.

As class VII students move to Class VIII and IX, a judicious use of English will be adopted by schools and by the time students reach Class X, the focus will be on using extensive English in the classroom transaction.

The School Education department has come up with strategies to help students and teachers overcome challenges faced by them in the English medium and issued guidelines to be followed by schools. The State government had introduced English as the medium of instruction in all government schools from Classes I to VIII from the academic year 2022-23. It was also decided to add one class every year to cover all classes till Class X by the academic year 2024-25.

For effective learning of English, code switching – switching between two different languages (known language – Telugu/Urdu and target language – English) will be encouraged among students while speaking or expressing their ideas. This, according to officials, will aid in understanding the idea expressed in English by connecting it to the sentence spoken in the known language (Telugu/Urdu).

Coding mixing, using words of two different languages in the same sentence or idea, is another strategy that schools have been advised to introduce. This method will help students in building their English vocabulary.

Apart from pairing up with colleagues/friends to practice English speaking skills, teachers have been asked to utilize online and offline resources such as videos and online articles, blogs etc.

Iran, Japan parliamentary groups cooperate fruitfully: Envoy

Kazutoshi Aikawa said in a meeting with the head of the Iranian side of the Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group who is also a lawmaker representing Tabriz city at parliament Rouhollah Motefaker-Azad on Wednesday night that Japan welcomes and supports parliamentary exchanges intending to deepen bilateral relations.

The ambassador also pointed to his country’s support for Palestine in terms of providing humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip, adding that Japanese officials are of the opinion that dialogue is an appropriate solution in order to solve problems and disputes at this juncture.

Motefaker-Azad, for his part, criticized the silence of the international community when it comes to crimes committed by the child-killing Israeli regime, saying that we are witnessing a genocide happening in the Gaza Strip.

He also referred to the proper level of collaboration between the two countries, arguing that third-party intervention, especially the United States, has not succeeded in destroying the relationship between Iran and Japan.

According to the MP, the Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group plays an effective role in strengthening mutual ties, which can be further expanded.

The legislator also appreciated the efforts made by the Japanese ambassador in this respect, as well as his trips to Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province, in a bid to expand his country’s investment in Iran, particularly in Lake Urmia, and asked the envoy to inform the Japanese government of the Iranian side’s willingness to invest in various fields in Japan.

Hyderabad remembers departed souls on All Souls’ Day

Hyderabad: All Souls’ Day was observed by Christians in Hyderabad on Thursday, November 2. Hundreds of people gathered in cemeteries in Hyderabad and Secunderabad areas to pay their respects to the departed souls of their friends, family, and other loved ones.

Flower vendors in the city had a busy day selling garlands to customers to place on their graves. Early on Thursday morning, there was a massive crowd at the Catholic cemetery in Bhoiguda. People were seen offering prayers at the graves of their loved ones and some also attended Requiem masses in churches. Flower petals and candles adored the graves in all cemeteries across the city. Families lovingly cleaned, painted and decorated the gravesites, creating a reverent atmosphere.

All Souls’ Day is a day of prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed, observed by certain Christian communities on November 2 every year. Through prayer, intercessions, alms and visits to cemeteries, people commemorate the poor souls in purgatory and gain them indulgences.

Heavy battles in north Gaza as Israel airstrikes intensify

The Israeli regime has been waging a brutal war against Gaza since October 7, when Hamas-led Palestinian Resistance groups launched their biggest operation against the Zionist regime in years. The sneak attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, came in response to the regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.

The following are the latest developments about the war on Gaza:

Palestinian groups demand halt to Israeli ‘crimes’ after torture videos surface

Palestinian groups called for halting Israeli “crimes” against prisoners after videos emerged of soldiers torturing detainees in the West Bank.

Videos surfaced on social media showing Israeli soldiers harassing, abusing, and torturing Palestinian detainees in the occupied territory.

“We received shocking scenes of soldiers torturing a group of defenseless civilians in conditions that violate human dignity, after stripping them of their clothes,” a group of Prisoner Affairs Associations said in a joint statement on Wednesday.

“We call on the free people of the world who still believe in the right of the Palestinians to struggle for their freedom to play their role in halting these crimes,” they added.

Bakeries bombed, hospitals hit as Israel’s war on Gaza knows no end:

Israeli aircraft bombed a gathering of citizens in front of Al-Sharq Bakery on Al-Nasr Street in Gaza, according to media reports.

They then proceeded to target ambulances coming to rescue the wounded at the Bakery.

Hezbollah shoots down Zionist regime’s drone in south Lebanon:

The Israeli army confirms that one of its drones has been shot down by a surface-to-air missile fired from Lebanon.

In response, the military said it attacked the squad that carried out the shooting and the site from where the rocket was launched.

This is the second time since the war started that Hezbollah has hit an Israeli drone.

For the past three weeks, the Lebanese Islamic Resistance group and the Israeli army have been engaged in skirmishes, relatively restricted in their scope and geography. But since last week, we have seen both sides firing deeper into each other’s territory, in a move that experts say marks a new level of confrontation.

On Friday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is scheduled to give his first public speech since October 7.

195 killed, 120 missing in strikes on Gaza’s Jabalia camp: Gaza officials

Israeli warplanes attacked several residential buildings in the centre of the camp, leading to around 400 casualties, mainly children, Palestinian official news agency WAFA reports.

Gaza officials say 195 killed, 120 missing in Israel’s bombing of Jabalia refugee camp, which the UN says may be “disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes”.

Meanwhile, it was reported on Thursday that Israeli air strikes targeted Jabalia refugee camp for a third time.

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic are reporting that Israeli air strikes have targeted the Jabalia refugee camp for the third time in as many days.

At least three Palestinians have been killed and many injured in the bombing of a house in the camp.

Almost 200 people were killed and at least 777 wounded in the first two bombings of the camp on Tuesday and Wednesday. Another 120 people are still missing, according to a report published by Gaza’s Government Media Office.

Increase in polling stations in Warangal East constituency

Warangal: In preparation for the upcoming elections in Warangal East Constituency, election officials have made significant adjustments to the polling infrastructure. Fifteen additional polling stations are set to be established, bringing the total number of polling stations to 230.

During the previous election, the constituency had 2,11,084 registered voters. However, the recently released voter list from the Election Commission of India (ECI), reveals a surge in the number of eligible voters to 2,46,367. In response to this substantial increase, the ECI has granted approval for the creation of 15 new polling centres, each accommodating up to 1,500 voters.

This expansion will bring the total number of polling stations in the constituency up from 215 to 230. Notably, election officials have identified 51 polling centres as potentially problematic and are taking measures to address issues. Additionally, webcasting will be implemented in 130 polling stations to ensure transparency and security during the voting process.

Special polling Centres for enhanced participation:

To encourage higher voter turnout, the ECI has initiated innovative programmes, including the establishment of special polling centres tailored to different demographics. Specifically, five special polling centres designed for women voters will be set up in each constituency. In addition, polling station number 186 in Karimabad has been designated as a special polling centre for disabled voters. Furthermore, Polling Stations 33, 70, 99, 124, and 150 have been recognized as model polling centres, and Centre number 22 of CKM College has been designated as a special polling station for young voters.

Election officials have organised the polling centres in the Warangal East constituency into 17 sectors for streamlined election administration. Each sector will comprise 12 to 14 polling centres, overseen by a designated Sectorial Officer, who has already conducted thorough inspections and submitted reports. These reports include assessments of facilities, such as the presence of ramps, access to drinking water, separate restroom facilities for men and women, and electrification. Proposals for necessary arrangements have been made based on the Election Commission’s directives, with particular attention given to addressing issues in problematic or previously violent polling stations.

In preparation for enforcing the election code of conduct, four flying squads have been established in the Warangal East Constituency. Furthermore, the election officials have established two video surveillance teams for videography purposes.
