Hyderabad: Due to urgent repair works of the NRV valve of the second pump in the Kondapur pump house of the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase-II, drinking water supply will be disrupted in several parts of Hyderabad city for two days. The officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) urged people in the affected areas to use water sparingly.
The Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase-II supplies water to several parts of the Greater Hyderabad city. However, the NRV valve of the second pump in Kondapur pump house came under an unexpected repair and the officials took up restoration works on a warfooting.
Due to these repair works, there will be complete disruption of drinking water supply for on Wednesday and Thursday in many areas under the jurisdiction of Operations and Maintenance Divisions – 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10(A), 10(B), 13, 14, 16, and 20 of HMWS&SB. While a few areas might experience partial disruption, water will be supplied with pressure in some areas, according to an official press release.
The areas where water supply will be disrupted include NPA, Mir Alam, Balapur, Maisaram, Barkas Bhojagutta, Allabanda, Mekalamandi, Bholakpur, Chilkalguda, Tarnaka, Lalapet, Bouddha Nagar, Marredpally, Control Room, Railways, MES, Cantonment, Prakash Nagar, Patigadda, Hasmathpet, Ferozeguda, Gautam Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, BN Reddy Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Autonagar, Alkapuri Colony, Mahendra Hills, Elugutta, Ramantapur, Uppal, Nacharam, Habsiguda, Chilkanagar, Beerappagadda, Budwel, Shastripuram, Meerpet, Badangpet and Shamshabad.

Nairobi: The protests in Kenya against new tax hike turned extremely violent, with several casualties reported and protestors flooding the street around the Kenyan Parliament, CNN reported.
At least five people were killed and 31 injured in protests in Kenya on Tuesday, CNN reported, citing a joint statement released by several human rights groups.
It was released by Amnesty International Kenya, the Kenya Medical Association, the Law Society of Kenya and the Police Reforms Working Group Kenya.
“Despite the assurance by the government that the right to assembly would be protected and facilitated, today’s protests have spiralled into violence. Human rights observers and medical officers have reported several incidents of human rights violations,” the statement said.
According to the statement, at least five people were shot dead. At least 31 have been injured, with 13 of these people shot with live bullets, four with rubber bullets, and three hit with launcher canisters. However, there has not been any official statement by the Kenyan police on this.
As violence rages, the ambassadors of 13 Western embassies in Kenya, in a joint statement, said they were “shocked” by the scenes around Kenya’s Parliament on Tuesday. They said they were “deeply concerned” by allegations that some protesters had been abducted by the security forces and called for “restraint on all sides,” the New York Times reported.
Embassies and high commissions from Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States said that they “are especially shocked by the scenes witnessed outside the Kenyan Parliament.”
Amid violent protests, several cases of internet disruptions have also been reported.
The internet watchdog group NetBlocks is reporting a major disruption to internet connectivity in Kenya, just hours after protesters marched towards Parliament.
However, Kenya’s Communications Authority said on Monday, that it had “no intention whatsoever to shut down internet traffic or interfere with the quality of connectivity.”
The contentious bill was introduced by the government of President William Ruto in May to raise revenue and limit borrowing in an economy facing a heavy debt burden. But, the legislation has received sharp criticism from Kenyans, who claim that it adds punitive new taxes and raises others on a wide range of goods and services that would escalate living costs, and detractors have pointed to corruption and mismanagement of funds, as reported by NYT.
President Ruto now has two weeks to sign the legislation into law or send it back to Parliament for further amendments.
India has also issued an advisory for its nationals in Kenya, as protests against a tax hike turned violent, causing a rampage in the African nation.
The Indian Embassy in Kenya on Tuesday, has advised the Indian nationals there to “exercise utmost caution, restrict non-essential movement and avoid the areas affected by the protests and violence till the situation clears up.”
“In view of the prevailing tense situation, all Indians in Kenya are advised to exercise utmost caution, restrict non-essential movement and avoid the areas affected by the protests and violence till the situation clears up,” the Embassy stated.
Earlier in the day, Auma Obama, the half-sister of former US President Barack Obama, was teargassed live on air on Tuesday, CNN reported.
The incident occurred when Auma Obama, who is a Kenyan-British activist, was in a chat with CNN’s Larry Madowo with a group of teenage protestors.
The warplanes targeted the family home of Haniyeh in the Shati camp area near Gaza City, killing at least 10 people, including his sister. Reports said everyone killed in the strike was a member of the Haniyeh family.
The Palestinian WAFA news agency also reported that five civilians, including three children, were killed and several others injured after an Israeli airstrike hit a house in the al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza on Monday.
The report further said that 10 Palestinians lost their lives in an Israeli bombing of Bani Suhaila roundabout east of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the report added that an Israeli aerial assault killed two people and wounded several others in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
Also on Monday, Israeli fighter jets carried out a series of strikes on Gaza City’s Sheikh Ijlin neighborhood and Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.
Additionally, Israeli artillery targeted the northeastern Gaza city of Beit Hanoun while the regime’s tanks advanced into the southern areas of Rafah and set fire to several houses there.
Israel unleashed a genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, which has so far killed at least 37,626 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 86,098 others.
Seven months later, the occupying regime began a ground offensive in Rafah, home to displaced Palestinians who had fled from the rest of Gaza amid the bloody Israeli onslaught.

New Delhi: India’s second richest person Gautam Adani received a total remuneration of Rs 9.26 crore in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024, lower than most industry peers as well as his own key executives.
Adani (61) drew salary from only two out of the 10 companies in his ports-to-energy conglomerate, annual reports of the 10 listed entities of the group showed. His remuneration for 2023-24 from the group’s flagship firm Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) included Rs 2.19 crore salary and perquisites, allowances and other benefits worth Rs 27 lakh.
The total remuneration of Rs 2.46 crore was 3 per cent more than the previous financial year, according to AEL’s 2023-24 annual report. Besides, he drew Rs 6.8 crore from Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ).
Adani’s salary is lower than heads of almost all large family-owned conglomerates in India. While the richest Indian, Mukesh Ambani has been foregoing his entire salary since Covid-19 broke out prior to which he had capped his remuneration at Rs 15 crore, Adani’s remuneration is much lower than telecom czar Sunil Bharti Mittal (Rs 16.7 crore in 2022-23), Rajiv Bajaj (Rs 53.7 crore), Pawan Munjal (Rs 80 crore), L&T chairman SN Subrahmanyan and Infosys CEO Salil S Parekh.
Adani, who is worth $106 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, has been jostling with Ambani for the spot of the richest person in Asia. He became the richest Asian in 2022 but lost that position after a damning report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research wiped out almost $150 billion of market value of his group stock at its lowest point last year. He regained the top spot on two occasions this year but again ceded the position to Ambani.
Ambani is ranked 12th on the world’s richest list with a networth of $111 billion. Adani is ranked 14th. Adani’s younger brother Rajesh got Rs 8.37 crore, including Rs 4.71 crore commission on profit from AEL, while his nephew Pranav Adani drew Rs 6.46 crore, including Rs 4.5 crore commission, the annual report showed.
Gautam Adani did not draw any commission from AEL but got Rs 5 crore from APSEZ. The remuneration from APSEZ included Rs 1.8 crore salary and Rs 5 crore commission that will be payable in 2024-25 fiscal, the company’s annual report said. His son, Karan earned Rs 3.9 crore from APSEZ.
Gautam Adani’s brother, nephew and son did not draw salaries from more than one company. Vinay Prakash, key executive and director on AEL board, received a total remuneration of Rs 89.37 crore. Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh got Rs 9.45 crore salary.
The group’s renewable energy firm, Adani Green Energy Ltd CEO Vneet S Jaain was paid Rs 15.25 crore while Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) CEO Suresh P Manglani earned Rs 6.88 crore. Adani Wilmar CEO Angshu Mallick got Rs 5.15 crore.
“We reported an average remuneration increase of 12 per cent for employees, excluding key managerial personnel (KMPs), with a slightly higher increase of 5.37 per cent for KMPs,” the AEL annual report said.
SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, got Rs 5.63 crore.
On the Israeli side, at least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed, according to authorities.

Hezbollah said it fired “dozens” of rockets Thursday at a military base in northern Israel in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Lebanon, announcing four of its fighters had been killed.
Fears of all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah have risen in recent weeks as threats have intensified between the sides, which have traded regular cross-border fire since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel sparked war in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas ally Hezbollah said that “in response to the enemy attacks that targeted the city of Nabatiyeh and village of Sohmor”, its fighters bombed “the main air and missile defence base of the (Israeli) northern area command… with dozens of Katyusha rockets”.
It said in separate statements that four of its fighters, one from eastern Lebanon’s Sohmor, had been killed, and claimed two other attacks on Israeli troops and positions, including one with drones.
The Israeli military said in a statement that “approximately 35 launches were identified crossing from Lebanon”.
Air defences “successfully intercepted most of the launches. No injuries were reported,” it added.
It said air strikes “eliminated” three Hezbollah operatives, one in the Sohmor area and two in the country’s south.
The military also said that “two UAVs (drones) that were identified crossing from Lebanon fell” in northern Israel, reporting no injuries.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported Israeli attacks in several areas of south Lebanon on Thursday, and said a strike a day earlier in Nabatiyeh wounded “more than 20” people when a two-storey building was targeted.
Fears have grown the Gaza war could become a regional conflagration if the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, which so far has been largely limited to the border area, expands.
France’s foreign ministry said Thursday that Paris was “extremely concerned” about the fighting, calling “all sides to exercise the greatest restraint”.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said during a visit to Washington on Wednesday that his country did not want war in Lebanon, but could send it back to the “Stone Age” if diplomacy failed.
Amid Western diplomatic efforts to dial down tensions in recent months, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Tuesday visited Beirut and cautioned that “miscalculation” could trigger all-out war, also urging “extreme restraint”.
The violence has killed 485 people in Lebanon, most of them fighters but also including 94 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

Mancherial: A 26-year-old man died, allegedly by suicide, as he was depressed over prolonged illness, at Thallapet village in Dandepalli mandal on Thursday.
Jannaram Sub-Inspector Gundeti Rajyavardhan said that Kundarapu Raghu, a carpenter of the village attempted to kill himself by consuming some pesticide at Ponkal village in Jannaram mandal on June 25 morning.
Raghu was immediately shifted to a hospital in Luxettipet and then NIMS-Hyderabad when his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at NIMS.
He was diagnosed with neurological and mental health problems for quite a long time. He was undergoing treatment, but was upset with his ailment. Raghu’s father Chandraiah lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered. Investigation is on.
Irrespective of who wins the June 28 snap presidential election, the Iranian government will continue to be the strong representative of the Iranian nation and act with authority to defend national interests at the global level, says a former Iranian diplomat.
In an interview with the Press TV website, Mohammad Mirali Mohammadi, a former Iranian political counselor in the United Kingdom, spoke about the upcoming vote and its significance.
“Western states have historically neglected strong signs of democratic norms and values in the political system of Iran, including very high participation rate in almost all previous 40 general elections to elect either presidents, members of parliament, members of village and city councils or members of the Assembly of Experts,” he stated, referring to the negative portrayal of Iranian democracy in the West.
“They are however interested in and highly invested in expensive propaganda campaigns to weaken the relation between public and state in Iran”, he hastened to add.
He said the Western interference in the internal affairs of Iran goes back to 1953 when the US and the UK plotted against the first democratically-elected government in the country.
The former diplomat said Western states have concentrated on misinformation campaigns and fake news for decades to attack Iranian elections, as the heart of any democratic system, to interfere in the election process, call the results invalid for all sorts of excuses, create chaos and insurgence, or call the Iranian government as non-representative.
“This is while in the newest part of this PSYWAR, they have focused on promoting a wrong discourse of calling the elections useless or predetermined, to invalidate the elections and convince the public not to be present at ballot boxes,” Mohammadi told the Press TV website.
“Now the participation rate is the focal point of their propaganda war against the rising power of Iran. Many expect that the participation rate will rise and Western propaganda will be defeated again.”
Regarding the legacy of Martyr President Raeisi’s government in foreign policy, the former Iranian political counselor in the UK said the Raeisi government was successful in circumventing and controlling the impact of American and European sanctions.
“Iranians have the experience of a non-successful diplomatic attempt to remove sanctions via negotiations with the US, and there is a widespread public belief that the sanctions are parts of the US’s major animosity against Iran,” he stated.
“Hence, sanctions need to be tackled in a different term with a different language which the US better understands, namely, the term of power, not weakness.”
He credited Martyr Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian for the paradigm shift in the country’s foreign policy and spearheading a vibrant and dynamic regional diplomacy to develop trust and better bilateral relations with neighboring nations, an approach which bore fruits for Iran in the form of full membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, as well as free trade deal with the Eurasian Economic Union and increased involvement in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue.
Commenting on the decline of US hegemony and its benefit to Iran and other nations, Mohammadi said many experts throughout the world have discussed for more than a decade the decline in the US power and its global hegemony and the rise of a new post-America world order, especially after it failed in Iraq war.
“The decline of the US hegemony would naturally lead to less imperialistic and interventionist policies of the US, which have already been celebrated by independent nations. Both independent nations which have resisted or in the case of Iran, which has made a revolution against the US imperialistic interventions, can benefit a multi-polar world order or a non-polar one, which has been discussed by political experts,” he remarked.
By creating new international alliances, Iran and independent nations can resist more easily against the US’s illegal and unilateral sanctions, act more freely in the global economy and safeguard their national interests with less US negative impact” he added.
“By the overwhelming majority, the ten nations decided to ‘take a pause’ with new members to ‘take in’ the new members who have doubled the association,” he said at a meeting with the Speaker of Belarus’ Council of the Republic, or upper house of parliament, Natalia Kochanova.
“At the same time, we are working of categories of partner countries as stages ahead of a full-fledged membership. We will support our Belarusian friends as a number of other like-minded nations,” Lavrov, who is on an official visit to Minsk, said.
A meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers was held in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10 and 11. This was the first ministerial meeting following BRICS expansion in 2023 when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as full-fledged BRICS members. About 30 more countries are interested in cooperating with the association in this or that format.
Russia took over the BRICS’ year-long presidency on January 1, 2024. Russia’s presidency features more than 250 various events, with a BRICS summit in Kazan in October 2024 being the central one.

New Delhi: Star India batter Virat Kohli heaped praise on American basketball legend Michael Jordan, recalling how he used to watch his matches in the National Basketball Association (NBA) league and was inspired by his on-court intensity and win-at-all-costs attitude.
Speaking in a video shared by the US Consulate General in Mumbai on their official Instagram, Virat recalled how he used to catch up with NBA Basketball games as a youngster when he used to go for his cricket practice and fell in love with Jordan’s style of play and personality. Besides Jordan, he expressed his admiration for late basketball icon Kobe Bryant as well.
“I guess there have been many before and after. I used to love watching Kobe Bryant play as well. But I guess the time that I saw Michael Jordan play, I clearly remember there used to be the early morning basketball games that used to be aired on ESPN in India. And I used to be up quite early to go to cricket practice. So I would always catch all of those games. And just watching him play, it was just… a real natural connect with his body language, with the way he moved on the court and just his personality and that, you know, you could see on his face the intensity and the will to win. And I just immediately connected that I was like, man, I just want to watch this guy again and again,” said Virat.
“And I used to mark the, you know, in the newspaper, the list of the Chicago Bulls games when they are going to be aired. And I made sure that I was up to watch him play. And there was magic in every game that he played. There was something or the other happening. So for me, that was a very strong core memory and something that I still hold very dearly. If I saw him, I would absolutely go crazy. At any point in time, I would be a fanboy and I would just run up to him to ask for an autograph. Not necessarily take pictures without asking. That is the school I have grown up in. But I would absolutely be acting like a small boy when I see him,” he added.
The 61-year-old basketball icon played the sport from 1984-2003. From 1984-1993 and then 1995-1998, Jordan had two runs with the NBA team Chicago Bulls. From 2001-2003, he played for Washington Wizards. Jordan secured six NBA Championship titles throughout his career, all with the Bulls. The six-foot-six superstar was also given the NBA Final ‘Most Valuable Player’ award on all these occasions. He was also a five-time NBA MVP title winner for his consistent performances in full season in 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998. The trophy was named after him in the 2022-23 season.
He is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
