Poll Body Warning To Political Parties Ahead Of Lok Sabha Elections

Poll Body Warning To Political Parties Ahead Of Lok Sabha Elections

The Commission’s advisory has now formally set the stage for ethical political discourse.

New Delhi:

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission on Friday asked parties and their leaders to refrain from seeking votes on the basis of caste, religion and language, and not insult the devotee-deity relation or make any suggestion of a divine censure.

In an advisory warning the parties, candidates and star campaigners of stern action for any violation of Model Code of Conduct instead of the previous practice of only ‘moral censure’, the poll panel also said that temples, mosques, churches, gurdwaras or any other place of worship should not be used for poll propaganda or electioneering.

It said that the star campaigners and candidates who have received notices in past will face stern action for repeat violation of model code.

The advisory comes days before the model code is expected to come into effect with the announcement of the Lok Sabha and four state assembly polls later this month, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had recently emphasised that political parties should foster ethical and respectful political discourse which inspire rather than divide, promote ideas instead of personal attacks.

The Commission’s advisory has now formally set the stage for ethical political discourse and cut clutter in 2024 General Elections, an official said, adding the methodical approach to MCC violations has prepared the ground for civilised campaigning.

The EC warned the parties to maintain decorum in public campaigning and put additional responsibility on star campaigners and candidates, especially those who were issued notices in the past.

It asked the parties to raise the level of election campaign to issue-based debate and said the parties and their leaders should not make statements without factual basis or mislead the voters.

The advisory also covered social media engagements, saying posts vilifying or insulting rivals, posts that are in bad taste or below dignity should not to made or shared.

CM Revanth Reddy announces Education, Agriculture Commissions

Hyderabad– Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday announced the government’s plans to establish a Farmers Commission and Education Commission apart from more initiatives for the agricultural sector.

Speaking at a meeting with representatives of civil organisations at the Secretariat on Friday, he said both the commissions would be constituted shortly for effective implementation of the State government’s initiatives in both agriculture and education sectors.

The Education Commission would take the lead in shaping the education system in the State, with a unique pilot project to be taken up in Kodangal constituency.

The State government was planning to establish an integrated campus, spanning 25 acres, that would host SC, ST, BC and minority residential welfare schools, with an aim to eliminate caste and religious disparities in education sector.

Revanth Reddy reiterated the government’s commitment to agriculture, outlining a reinforced crop insurance scheme and prioritising crop rotation initiatives.

An all-party meeting would be held to address the concerns of tenant farmers and based on the suggestions, a legislation would be enacted to safeguard the interests of tenant farmers.

“We will invite all stakeholders for a comprehensive discussion on eligibility criteria for extending Rythu Bharosa investment support,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the State government was committed to people’s welfare and hence, had reopened Dharna Chowk and provided open access to Praja Bhavan.

Besides processing representations from people through Praja Palana programme and simplifying the grievance redressal system, he said efforts were being made to

The enthusiastic presence of the Iranian nation in elections would bring deterrence power to the country in the fields of defense and security.

The noble nation of Iran has always shown its presence in important scenes in important fields such as activities against the Zionist regime and global arrogance, proving that they are totally aware of what they should do in different cases.

Thousands Gather For Alexei Navalny's Funeral Despite Arrest Warning

Thousands Gather For Alexei Navalny's Funeral Despite Arrest Warning

Some mourners shouted “Navalny” as his coffin arrived at the church

Moscow, Russia:

Thousands of mourners gathered near a church in southern Moscow on Friday, braving the prospect of arrest to pay their respects to late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny at his funeral.

The ceremony comes two weeks after Alexei Navalny died in an Arctic prison. His supporters accuse Russian President Vladimir Putin of murdering his top critic and of trying to prevent him from having a dignified public burial.

The Kremlin, which has denied involvement in Alexei Navalny’s death, warned against “unauthorised” protests around the funeral.

Some mourners shouted “Navalny” as his coffin arrived at the Mother of God Quench My Sorrows church in Maryino, where the service will be held.

The French and German ambassadors were in the crowd, as were some of Russia’s last free independent politicians.

“People like him shouldn’t be dying: honest and principled, willing to sacrifice themselves,” said one mourner, Anna Stepanova, outside the church.

Fences had been put up around the building, but the passage was left open despite a heavy law enforcement presence and anti-riot police trucks.

“What are they afraid of? Why so many cars?” Stepanova said.

“They are so afraid themselves,” she said. “The people who came here, they are not scared. Alexei wasn’t either.”

‘Nothing to say’

The burial is scheduled to take place at the Borisovo cemetery, a short walk from the banks of the Moskva River, at 1300 GMT.

“Any unauthorised gatherings will be in violation of the law and those who participate in them will be held responsible,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said according to TASS.

Some 400 mourners have been detained at memorials for Alexei Navalny since his death, rights organisation OVD-Info has said.

The dissident’s widow, Yulia Navalnaya, earlier said she feared the funeral could be disrupted by further arrests.

“I’m not sure yet whether it will be peaceful or whether the police will arrest those who have come to say goodbye to my husband,” Navalnaya told the European Parliament this week.

She has directly blamed Putin for his death.

Western governments have been quick to hold the Kremlin responsible but have stopped short of making direct accusations of involvement.

Putin’s spokesman Peskov has criticised the accusations made by her and some Western leaders as “vulgar”.

And on the day of the funeral, Peskov said he had “nothing to say” to the family of Alexei Navalny.

Galvanised masses

Alexei Navalny had shot to prominence through his anti-corruption campaigning, exposing what he said was rampant graft at the top of Putin’s administration.

Some of the mourners mentioned the huge influence Alexei Navalny had on their own political involvement.

“Because of him I began to get involved in politics… He was the first public person that I listened to,” said 26-year-old Denis, a volunteer at a charity.

Alexei Navalny was arrested in January 2021 when he returned to Russia after being treated in Germany for a poisoning attack.

“Alexei was tortured for three years,” Navalnaya told lawmakers in Brussels.

“He was starved in a tiny stone cell, cut off from the outside world and denied visits, phone calls, and then even letters.”

“And then they killed him. Even after that, they abused his body,” she said.

His body was held in a morgue for eight days before being returned to the family, which Alexei Navalny’s team believed to be a bid to cover up responsibility for his death.

‘Ideas will live on’

His family and his team have also accused authorities of trying to prevent a dignified public burial, fearing it could turn into a flashpoint for dissent.

Alexei Navalny’s team said local investigators had threatened to bury him on the prison grounds if his mother did not agree to a “secret” funeral.

Once the body was released, allies struggled to find a place that would agree to hold a funeral ceremony, as well as hearse drivers.

And a civil ceremony allowing the general public to pay their respects to the body — common in Russia — has not been allowed.

Navalnaya has vowed to continue his life’s work and urged to “fight more desperately, more fiercely than before.”

In the crowd near the church, some seemed to agree.

“A person has died, but his ideas will live on thanks to those who have gathered here,” said Alyona, a 22-year-old archaeologist who came to pay her respects.

Complaints over poor quality eggs, rations to children, women

As per the new zonal system introduced in May, owners of poultry farms can drop tenders to supply eggs if they have the production capacity of 40 percent out of the requirement.

Complaints over poor quality eggs, rations to children, women

Mancherial: Even as a new zonal system was introduced to curb irregularities in supplying nutritional supplements, officials of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) are drawing flak for providing low weight eggs than that of the prescribed standard weight and rations to children aged between 7 months and 6 years, lactating mothers and pregnant women.

The district has 969 Anganwadi centres under four projects – Mancherial, Bellampalli, Chennur and Luxettipet, covering 24,288 children aged between 7 months and 3 years, 24,288 children from 3 to 6 years, 4,027 pregnant women and 3,892 new mothers.

As per the new zonal system introduced in May, owners of poultry farms can drop tenders to supply eggs if they have the production capacity of 40 percent out of the requirement. They are allowed to procure the remaining 60 percent of eggs from outside.

They should provide eggs weighing anywhere between 45 grams and 52 grams. “However, the successful bidders are depending on the project-level contractors.

Consequently, the contractors are flouting norms in supplying eggs to Anganwadi centres due to lack of monitoring and supervision by officials.

The bidders, contractors and officials are sharing profits earned through the wrongdoing. Beneficiaries cannot distinguish the weight of the eggs,” a woman from Chennur said.

Collector Badavath Santosh, who recently inspected an Anganwadi centre in Jaipur mandal, detected eggs weighing lighter than standard weight.

As per his instructions, District Welfare Officer (DWO) K Chinnaiah issued a memo asking why action should not be initiated against contractor Rajitha and proprietor of the poultry farm.

Meanwhile, contractors are supplying sub-standard pigeon pea or toor dal to Anganwadi centres. The grains are infested by insects, causing inconvenience to operators of the centres and beneficiaries.

A total of 130 grams of dal, 150 grams of rice, 200 ml milk and 16 grams of cooking oil is provided to pregnant and lactating women a day.

DWO Chinnaiah said efforts were being made to ensure quality eggs and rations at the centres. He said that Child Development Project Officers and Supervisors were instructed to monitor the centres at regular intervals.

He cautioned that stringent action would be initiated against those who indulge in irregularities in supplying eggs and rations to beneficiaries.
