Thane: Seven persons, including a self-styled godman, were arrested for allegedly running a sex racket in the guise of performing rituals for people wanting to get rich, a Thane Crime Branch official said on Saturday.

The probe into the racket began after a 15-year-old girl went missing from Rabodi and a kidnapping case was registered, the official said.

The probe led to the arrest of two persons, identified as Aslam Khan and Salim Shaikh, on February 25, who told police about the main accused Saheblal Wazir Shaikh alias Yusuf Baba, who was held some time later, he said.

“Our probe found that Yusuf Baba and his associates lured financially vulnerable women by promising them riches through black magic. Some of the rituals included participation of women in the nude,” the official said.

He said several objectionable videos of these rituals have been found along with other incriminating evidence from the mobiles phones of the accused.

“We believe this gang, which includes two women, ensnared at least 17 persons. The seven arrests were made from Thane, Vasai in Palghar and neighbouring Mumbai,” Inspector Krishna Kokni of Thane Crime Branch Unit I said.

He said a case of kidnapping, rape, cheating and other offences under IPC has been registered with Rabodi police station and further probe into this racket is underway.

The accused have also been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act 2013, the official informed.

Hundreds demand Gaza ceasefire outside Spain’s Foreign Ministry

Protesters hold a banner reading “BDS” (Boycott, Disinvestment, Sanctions) during a rally in support of the people from the Gaza Strip, in the Palestinian territories, in Madrid on March 1, 2024.

Hundreds rallied outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid on Friday, calling on the Spanish government to “stop the arms trade” with Israel and demanding an immediate ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Footage shows crowds chanting and waving flags outside the building as they stood behind a large banner bearing the slogan: “Long live the struggle of the Palestinian people.”

Organizers called for the impromptu rally after reports emerged from the Gaza Health Ministry on Thursday that 100 people were killed after Israeli troops “opened fire” as people gathered for food aid.

According to media reports, people rushed to secure food and medicine from aid trucks. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 104 people were killed and 760 injured.

After Rolls Royce And Porsche, Rs 2.5 Crore Diamond Watch Seized From Tobacco Baron

Diamond Watch And Supercars: Tobacco Baron's Lavish Lifestyle Under Probe

New Delhi:

After establishing itself as a key player in the tobacco industry, the Banshidhar Company has come under the radar of Income Tax authorities who are working round the clock to unravel the company’s web of deception. The department today carried out raids at the home and offices of the company’s head KK Mishra.

Banshidhar Tobacco Private Limited is a major player in the tobacco industry and is known for supplying products to major pan masala groups. Reports suggest that the company has a declared income of Rs 20 to 25 crore when the actual turnover was pegged at Rs 100-150 crore. The searches so far have revealed a trail of clandestine dealings and opulent lifestyles.

In today’s raids, the agency seized several expensive watches belonging to Shivam Mishra, the scion of the tobacco company. One of the watches, diamond-studded, is worth nearly Rs 2.5 crore rupees, sources in the agency said.

Seven crore rupees in cash, along with jewellery and other assets, have also been seized, intensifying the scrutiny on the group’s financial affairs.

The agency has already seized a collection of luxury cars, all bearing the number plate ‘4018’, from Shivam Mishra’s home in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Fifteen to 20 teams carried out raids across five states, metaphorically shaking down every tobacco leaf linked to Banshidhar Tobacco Company, to stumble upon a treasure trove of luxury cars worth a staggering Rs 50 crore; among them, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, priced at a cool Rs 16 crore, found at Shivam Mishra’s home in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar.

The raids, being executed with military precision, reveal an empire built on deceit and financial manipulations. There is a major gap between the company’s declared income and the actual turnover and the officials believe that they hid their money using offshore accounts and manipulated ledgers, sources said.

KK Mishra, the once-untouchable patriarch, now finds himself entangled in a web of his own making. The Banshidhar Tobacco Limited, once an impenetrable fortress, now stands exposed, its foundations cracked, and its secrets laid bare.

Info Edge’s Naukri, Shiksha, 99 acres disappear from Google Play Store

Info Edge clarified that users who already have its mobile apps downloaded on their mobile devices can continue to use the same. Info Edge’s Naukri, Shiksha, 99 acres disappear from Google Play Store

New Delhi: Info Edge (India) Ltd on Saturday said its mobile apps, including naukri.com, 99 acres.com, and shiksha.com have been removed from Google Play Store.

This comes a day after Google began removing some apps, including popular matrimony apps, from its Play Store in India over a dispute on service fee payments.

Google has said that 10 companies in the country, including “many well-established” had avoided paying fees despite benefiting from the platform.

“We would like to inform you that the company’s mobile applications (viz. Naukri.com Job Search App, Naukri Recruiter, Naukrigulf Job Search App, 99acres Buy/Sell/Rent Property and Shiksha), have been removed/delisted from Google Play Store today by Google, along with several mobile applications of other companies/entities as well,” Info Edge (India) Ltd said in a BSE filing.

It said the action comes as a surprise to the company as it was taken without giving due and sufficient notice by Google.

Info Edge clarified that users who already have its mobile apps downloaded on their mobile devices can continue to use the same. In addition, all users who are using the apps through other platforms (such as Apple App Store) or through the web platforms concerned (on both mobile and desktop), are not impacted by this change.

“The company is reviewing and evaluating the next course of action and working with Google in this regard, to ensure that the company’s mobile applications are reinstated on Google Play Store, in the best timely manner,” the filing added.

The dispute is over Google imposing a fee of 11-26 per cent on in-app payments after anti-competition body CCI ordered scrapping of an earlier system of charging 15-30 per cent.

Google went ahead to remove the apps not paying the fee after the Supreme Court did not provide interim relief to companies behind these apps in their battle against the search giant’s platform fees.

However, Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani on Friday said it had cleared all pending Google invoices in a timely manner and was compliant with its policies.

“Indian companies will comply – for now. But what India needs is an App Store/ Play Store that is a part of Digital Public Infrastructure – like UPI and ONDC. The response needs to be strategic,” he said in a post on X tagging Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his office.
