The establishment of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) in Telangana will now facilitate students to obtain technical degrees and diplomas without having to study in other States.

Hyderabad: The union government has approved the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) to Telangana. Orders to this effect were issued on Friday.

The establishment of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) in Telangana will now facilitate students to obtain technical degrees and diplomas without having to study in other States. In the past, students had to study different courses at the IIHTs in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Along with regular training, the IIHT offers courses in Technical Textiles, Designing Textiles, Apparels Designing, Marketing & International Trade.

Handlooms Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao had appealed to union Textiles Secretary Rachana Shah, who was in the city recently to sanction an IIHT to Telangana.

This apart, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during his New Delhi visit earlier, had urged union Minister of Industries Piyush Goyal as well to sanction the institute.

Nageswara Rao said the State government’s T-Tap Policy (Industrial Policy of Textile Sector) was attracting national and international industries into Telangana. There was a need to ensure availability of more skilled people to meet the requirement of these industries, he said.

Setting up of the IIHT would help Telangana students in securing employment. Availability of technically skilled students in the State would aid in ensuring the development of textile industry to international standards, the Minister said.

Water levels dip in irrigation projects in Karimnagar

Compared to last year, there is a drop of 5 tmc of water in the three reservoirs of Mid Manair, Lower Manair Dam and Sripada Yellampalli project

Karimnagar: Water levels in irrigation projects in the erstwhile district have registered a dip. Compared to last year, there is a drop of 5 tmc of water in the three reservoirs of Mid Manair, Lower Manair Dam and Sripada Yellampalli project.

If the present situation continues, officials feel it will be a tough task to supply water to the standing crop.

The previous BRS government had protected the standing crops by supplying water by filling all irrigation projects with Kaleshwaram water. Earlier, water used to be lifted from Medigadda and dumped in the Yellampalli project, from where it was taken to Mid Manair by filling the Nandi reservoir and operating the Gayatri pump house.

Besides the LMD, water used to be supplied to the Ranganayak Sagar in Siddipet district from MMD. Before the construction of the Kaleshwaram project, the Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) was a major water source for the Yellampalli project. After completion of Kaleshwaram, water was lifted from Medigadda especially in the Yasangi season to protect standing crops.

Presently, it is not possible to draw water from Godavari since water was let out from the three barrages of Sundilla, Annaram and Meddigadda following the sinking of three pillars at Medigadda.

Water levels in Yellampalli have dipped since there are no inflows from SRSP. The levels have fallen to 10.86 tmc as against its storage capacity of 20.175 tmc. This was when 18.11 tmc water was available in the project during the corresponding month last year. Though the project is not getting any inflows, 855 cusecs of water is being supplied to HMWS (323 cusecs), NTPC (242) and Gudem PH (290), according to officials.

In order to protect standing crops, irrigation officials had lifted more than 25 tmc from the Kaleshwaram project every year for three years.

As against its storage capacity of 27.55 tmc, 15 tmc water is available in Mid Manair. During the corresponding period in 2023, 20 tmc water was available in the reservoir.

Meanwhile, only 8 tmc of water is available in LMD as against its storage capacity of 24 tmc. This is when 13 tmc of water was available in March 2023. Presently, 3,000 cusecs of water is being released through Kakatiya canal to supply water to standing crops under LMD.

Vinod Kumar asks Govt to implement six guarantees

Hyderabad: BRS leader and former MP B Vinod Kumar said on Saturday that the Congress party, which came to power by assuring impossible promises, should implement all its six guarantees and give the promised Rs.500 per quintal bonus to farmers for the Yasangi crop.

Participating in the BRS Choppadandi constituency meeting at Venkatraopall of Boinpalli mandal, he demanded the State government to implement all the six guarantees within 100 days.

Otherwise, the BRS would wage an agitation to mount pressure on the government. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had promised to recruit 2 lakh government jobs by December this year, he said.

One week before Assembly polls, the previous BRS government had kept Rs 7,700 crore ready to distribute to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. Unfortunately, the present government could not deposit the Rythu Bandhu amount in the bank accounts of farmers, he alleged.

Vinod Kumar also found fault with Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar for failing sanction even Rs.five for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency during his five year tenure as parliament member.

With a fear of defeat in the next parliament elections, Sanjay Kumar was indulging in conspiracy politics, he said and expressed confidence of hoisting the BRS flag in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha segment in the next parliament polls.

Hyderabad: As the Krishna basin is all set to shrivel up, the Nagarjuna Sagar Project is likely emerge the last hope to meet the drinking water needs in its command in both the Telugu States. The project officials could foresee an unusual situation where in both the States are likely to seek drawls reaching below the minimum drawdown level of 510 feet.

This summer will see the repeat of the 2016 situation when water was drawn going up to a depth of 506 feet, said a senior official. As for Telangana, the worry is more about the drinking water supply to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

As stated by Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), Telangana has already run out of its allotted share of 35 tmc of water for the current water year. An additional indent placed by the State for 8.90 tmc to meet its drinking water requirements up to May next was turned down.

The State would require to draw 1.6 tmc of water per month from the project to meet the drinking water needs in the twin cities alone. The districts of Nalgonda and Khammam are equally depending on the project for the same. In this backdrop, in all likelihood, the river board had to be approached by the State to tide over an emergency situation.

As the project officials put it, water level in the reservoir, which was fast dipping, was likely to drop below the MDDL by the end of April. Drawls up to the level of 506 feet would yield another 6.5 tmc and it could be the life saver.

Andhra Pradesh, which started availing three tmc of water allotted to it out of its overall quota of 15 tmc from the NSP, is also likely to stake claim for its share.

Raeisi: Iran ready to become energy hub, safe route for gas distribution

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran is ready to become an energy hub and a secure conduit for gas distribution and transit between producers and markets.

Raeisi made the remarks while addressing the 7th summit of the leaders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in the Algerian capital, Algiers on Saturday.

Highlighting Iran’s abundant natural gas reserves, strategic geographical location, and advanced technological capabilities, Raeisi outlined Tehran’s regional strategy focused on augmenting natural gas production and exports.

He emphasized Iran’s commitment to providing regional nations with enhanced access to this clean and economically valuable energy source.

“Relying on its huge reserves of natural gas, its transit position and high technology, the Islamic Republic of Iran intends to develop bilateral and multilateral cooperation with all countries in the global gas market, especially the neighboring countries from Central Asia to the Persian Gulf and its neighbors in the East and the West to find a role that fits these capacities,” he emphasized.

He further stressed that the capacities within Iran’s gas industry have laid a solid foundation for collaboration among GECF members in both upstream and downstream sectors of natural gas, as well as in its trade.

The Iranian president extended invitations to international investors, as well as those from GECF member countries, to participate in Iran’s energy sector projects, particularly in the natural gas industry.

The GECF, comprised of 13 permanent members and seven observers, was established in 2008 based on an initial proposal by Iran as one of the world’s largest holders of natural gas reserves.

Palestine ‘yardstick of humanity, morality’

Elsewhere in his address, Raeisi condemned the continuation of Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza and support of the US and some Western countries for the ongoing genocide in the Strip.

He presented practical solutions and proposals in order to stop Israel’s killing machine, saying, “The current war is the confrontation of the axis of evil against the axis of honor.”

“On one side of the front, there is an army that is waiting for more and stronger weapons and bombs from the US, and on the other side of the front, there are children who miss a bite of bread.”

Raeisi said the crimes committed by Israel, the US and their allies should be dealt with in an international court and they should be punished.

He emphasized that Israel should be expelled from the United Nations and all regional and international assemblies and be subject to global sanctions by nations and governments.

“The complete termination of overt and covert relations with this regime is the least that Muslim nations expect from their statesmen, which must be done immediately,” he pointed out.

The Iranian president warned that those who remain silent vis-à-vis the ongoing developments in Gaza will be slapped hard in the future, emphasizing that Palestine is now the “yardstick of humanity, morality and conscience of human society”.

He emphasized that the establishment of the Israeli regime was an arrogant project with the purpose of maintaining the dominance and influence of the West in the West Asia region.

The Palestinian people’s resistance has inflicted an irreparable blow to the Israeli regime, Raeisi said, urging all countries to support the oppressed and powerful people of Palestine through all possible means.

“The United Nations Security Council, which is designated as the guarantor of peace and security under the United Nations Charter, has been unable to establish a ceasefire due to the relentless support of the United States for the Zionist regime’s war machine,” he pointed out.

He said the US has left no stone unturned in its political, financial, arms and media support for Israel’s organized terrorism.

The American and European bombs are taking revenge on the Palestinian cause, he added.

“If the US and Europe are really looking for [the promotion of] peace, security and non-expansion of war, they should stop lying and hypocrisy and stop sending weapons and bombs that kill Palestinians,” the president emphasized.

He said despite all the crimes it has committed, Israel has not achieved any of its goals, adding that the Palestinian resistance continues its path.

“The Palestinian nation proved that blood is victorious over the sword,” he stated.

He once again stressed the need to establish an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, lift the blockade on Gaza and dispatch humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged people in the Strip and voiced Iran’s support for any initiative in this regard.

Iran believes that the Palestinian people should determine the fate of the historic land throught votes of Palestinians around the world, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, the president emphasized.

Israel waged its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 30,320 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 71,533 others.

The Tel Aviv regime has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
