Economic ties with Zionist regime would mean support for it

President Ebrahim Raeisi of Iran made the remarks in a meeting with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Algeria on the sidelines of the 7th summit of the leaders of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Algeria on Saturday.

Referring to the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, the President further criticized the indifference and inaction of some Islamic countries in the face of those crimes and said “Since the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh, no effective action has been taken to stop the crimes committed by the Zionists in Gaza.. In the meantime, the economic relations of some regional governments with the Zionist regime continue.”

Raeisi expressed his deep regret that the governments of the region have fallen into inaction and excessive conservatism in dealing with the Palestinian issue, saying that. “While the Palestinian Muslim nation is expecting practical and effective action from the Islamic governments today, one can see that some Arab and Islamic states are showing indifference towards the Palestinian issue. What is the response of their nations to the massacre of the oppressed people of Palestine?”

The Iranian president also held a separate meeting with the president of Tunisia Kais Saied where he said that “The resolve of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to deepen economic relations with Islamic countries, especially in North Africa.”

Raeisi also considered the shared view between the two countries regarding the Palestinian issue as a suitable ground for taking effective steps towards the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people.

The Iranian President also held a separate meeting with Filipe Nyusi, the president of Mozambique where he emphasized the interest of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop relations with African countries, including Mozambique. “This meeting can be a turning point in the direction of expanding and deepening the relations between the two countries,” Raeisi said.

The President said that in line with the goal of expanding bilateral ties between Iran and Mozambique, the drawing of a new road map was necessary.

He suggested that the Iran-Mozambique Joint Commission be activated with the aim of improving the level of relations and identifying and exploiting the high potential of the two countries.

Researchers Explore Fresh Approaches To Alzheimer's Treatment

Researchers Explore Fresh Approaches To Alzheimer's Treatment

Alzheimer’s disease is a major health concern worldwide, with a rapidly growing number of cases. Over 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most common form. This number is projected to nearly double by 2030, reaching 78 million, and then again by 2050 to a staggering 139 million, according to Alzheimer’s Disease International. The burden of Alzheimer’s disease is disproportionately felt in low- and middle-income countries. Currently, over 60% of dementia cases reside in these regions, and this number is expected to rise to 71% by 2050.

The fight against Alzheimer’s disease faces a critical juncture.  Recent controversies have shaken the foundation of a long-held theory, prompting researchers to explore new avenues.

A pivotal 2006 study linking beta-amyloid protein to Alzheimer’s is under scrutiny for potentially fabricated data. This casts doubt on the effectiveness of Aducanumab, an FDA-approved drug targeting beta-amyloid, despite conflicting data about its benefits.

With millions grappling with the disease, the lack of a definitive treatment is a pressing concern. Researchers are branching out, exploring alternative theories. Some point to dysfunctional mitochondria, the cell’s powerhouses, as the culprit. Others explore the possibility of a bacterial or metal-related origin.

This renewed focus on diverse causes offers a glimmer of hope.  The global dementia crisis demands innovative solutions. With new diagnoses every three seconds, the need for effective treatments and support systems is ever more crucial.

Researchers, families, and healthcare systems all stand to benefit from a deeper understanding of Alzheimer’s. Unraveling its complexities will pave the way for better treatment options and improved quality of life for patients and their loved ones.

Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal Formally Joins BJP-Led NDA Alliance

Jayant Chaudhary's Rashtriya Lok Dal Formally Joins BJP-Led NDA Alliance

Jayant Chaudhary met BJP chief JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah.

New Delhi:

On a day that the BJP released its first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, the National Democratic Alliance led by the party also got a boost with Jayant Chaudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal formally joining the bloc. The Uttar Pradesh-based party was a part of the opposition INDIA alliance and had been indicating for some time now that the switch was likely to happen.

Posting photos of Mr Chaudhary meeting him and Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda said in Hindi on X, “I met RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary in the presence of Amit Shah. I heartily welcome his decision to join the NDA family. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, you will make an important contribution to the journey towards a developed India and the development of Uttar Pradesh. Ab ki baar NDA 400 paar.”

Rumours that an alliance between the BJP and the RLD was in the works had been doing the rounds for a while and had got credence when the Bharat Ratna was announced for Mr Chaudhary’s grandfather and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on February 9. The RLD chief had welcomed the honour, writing, “Dil jeet liya mera (They have won my heart).

When reporters had asked him if he was going to ally with the BJP, Mr Chaudhary had said, “Is there anything left? How can I refuse?”

Three days later, he had indicated that the deal with the BJP had been sealed and a formal announcement could be expected soon. On questions that people in his party were not happy with the decision, the RLD chief had said he had made it only after speaking to everyone and in the interest of the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Poll Impact

The RLD is the second party to leave the INDIA bloc, after the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United. And while the party and its leader may not have the same profile as the JDU and Mr Kumar, its exit will be a setback for the opposition because it is a player in the all-important state of Uttar Pradesh.

Of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the BJP had won 62 in 2019 – which was nine lower than it had got in 2014 – but still managed to get to a tally of 303 nationally. This time around, the BJP is targeting winning 370 on its own and 400 for the NDA. The RLD, which enjoys support among the Jats, can play a role in getting it closer to that figure.

In its first list of 195 candidates issued on Saturday, the BJP has named 51 from Uttar Pradesh. It has been speculated that the RLD will contest two Lok Sabha seats and get two ministerial berths in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet.

Driving on Hyderabad roads an arduous task

Unfinished civil works, potholes, lack of lane markings, poor lighting among many challenges commuters face every day

Driving on Hyderabad roads an arduous task

Hyderabad: An over 10-foot-deep excavation laxly secured with a bunch of cement barricades lies unattended in the centre of a road in Tilak Nagar. With no radium stickers on the barricades and pointed metal bars peeking out, along with narrowing the roadway, the site is a tragedy waiting to befall.

Posing a significant danger to passersby, both pedestrians and motorists alike, the unfinished civil work in a densely populated area is one such example of the dismal state of roads in Hyderabad.

Along with multiple other roads dug up by authorities to undertake drainage or other pipeline works, potholes, uneven surfaces, lack of lane markings and poor lighting are among the many challenges commuters face every day.

Navigating these poorly managed stretches, while also keeping an eye out for road hogs and jaywalkers, suggests that driving on city roads is an arduous task.

In some parts of the city, muddy trails strewn with concrete patches are substituted for roads, leading to traffic snarls and vehicular damage. Areas such as Uppal, Amberpet and Doodhbowli have some of the most bumpy thoroughfares.

“The condition of roads is turning bad in the city and municipal authorities seem to be hardly bothered about improving it,” said Rabinder Rao from Himayathnagar.
Jyothsna from Srinagar Colony echoes the same views, adding that re-carpeting and road restoration seem to have taken a backseat for the authorities.

Mainly, little to no attention is paid to regularly used roads in the interiors of the city. Multiple residential areas are plagued with patchwork repairs often proving to be short-lived solutions, in addition to roads where the only light source would be your vehicle headlight. Some stretches such as the one in Kavadiguda, have way too many drainage grates, compelling drivers to pump their breaks every other minute.

Some roads have faded lane markings and stop lines, adding to the prevailing poor driving etiquette in the city. NTR Marg at Hussain Sagar is also devoid of lane markings and reflective road dividers.

Apart from the challenges that motorists face, city roads are also unsafe for pedestrians as there is a lack of serviceable footpaths with many being encroached on.

Naukri, Jeevansathi, other Indian apps removed from Google Play Store, reinstated after govt intervention

New Delhi: Google, on Friday delisted over a hundred popular Indian apps including Naukri.com, Shaadi.com, 99acres, Kuku FM etc.

The tech giant has reinstated the Indian apps it had earlier removed from Play Store, amid the government’s clear signal that the delisting of Indian apps cannot be permitted.

Sources said reinstating some of the apps was not linked to the government’s position but with the concerned apps complying with the Play Store Billing policies.

Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani, in a post on X, confirmed that many Info Edge apps are now back in the app marketplace.

“Many of the Info Edge apps are back on the Play Store. An effort very well led by (company MD and CEO) Hitesh and the entire Info Edge team. People were up all night for this. Great crisis management,” he said.

Taking a strong view of Google pulling out some apps from its Play Store, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told PTI that the delisting of Indian apps cannot be permitted and that the tech company and startups concerned have been called for a meeting next week.

In an interview, IT and Telecom Minister Vaishnaw said the startup ecosystem is key to the Indian economy and their fate cannot be left to any big tech to decide.

The minister’s comments assume significance as Google on Friday began removing some apps, including popular matrimony apps, from its Play Store in India over a dispute on service fee payments, even as apps and well-known startup founders cried foul.

Taking a serious note of the issue, Vaishnaw said: “India is very clear, our policy is very clear…our startups will get the protection that they need”.

The minister said the government will meet Google and app developers, who have been delisted, next week to resolve the dispute.

“I have already called Google…I have already called the app developers, who have been delisted. We will be meeting them next week. This cannot be permitted…This kind of delisting cannot be permitted,” Vaishnaw asserted.
