Hyderabad: The results of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) – PG 2024 that were concluded on March 28 would be released by the end of April.

The National Testing Agency conducted the CUET – PG in the computer-based test mode for admissions into 190 universities in 253 cities including nine cities outside India from March 11 to 28. For the 2024-25 academic year, CUET (PG) had around 4,62,603 candidates applied for 4,597 courses.

“The exam was conducted for over 15 days in 44 shifts in 240 papers and 18,000 questions were used. The tests were in English/Hindi for humanities, sciences, and common papers, and some subjects had papers in other languages. A total of 950 experts and 200 translators prepared question papers,” UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar said.

Iran will continue to resolutely support Palestine: Top general

Iran’s highest-ranking military commander has once again reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the resistance forces in their battle against Israel.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks in a meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, in Tehran on Friday.

“The Palestinian cause has been the centerpiece of Iran’s major strategies since the [1979 victory of the Islamic] Revolution, and this will undoubtedly continue with full power,” Baqeri said.

He said the “unprecedented” Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by Hamas against Israel inflicted irreparable defeat on the regime.

The honorable operation shattered the myth of the regime’s invincibility and made Palestine an overriding issue across the world, the Iranian commander stated.

Baqeri said Israel would definitely have fallen apart without the US support.

He hailed the great resistance of the Palestinian people in the face of all pressures, saying the innocent and defenseless Palestinians succeeded in exposing the power of Islam to the world.

He expressed hope that the people of Palestine would achieve final victory in the near future.

Haniyeh, for his part, said the Hamas military operation allowed the voice of the Palestinian people to be heard across the world. He said Iran’s support for Palestine raises the morale of the Palestinian resistance fighters.

The Hamas leader commemorated great efforts by Iran’s top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani to support the oppressed and stand against the tyrannical powers.

In a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told Haniyeh that Iran pursues a fixed policy of providing support to Palestine and the people in Gaza who have been suffering from brutal Israeli aggression for nearly six months.

Israel’s genocidal US-backed war started after Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm on October 7, 2023 against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Nearly six months into the hostilities, the regime has failed to achieve its objectives of “destroying Hamas” and finding Israeli captives despite killing at least 32,620 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring over 75,000 others.

Gaza humanitarian crisis ‘man-made’, Israel must obey ICJ order: UNRWA

UNRWA says the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza is man-made, criticizing the Israeli regime’s lack of cooperation with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the facilitation of aid delivery into the besieged Palestinian territory.

The head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, made the statement in a post on X on Friday after the ICJ issued a legally binding order calling on Israel to “ensure, without delay” that humanitarian aid is provided to the Gaza Strip to halt famine.

“The renewed binding order from the ICJ yesterday is a stark reminder that the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is man-made and worsening. It can however still be reversed,” Lazzarini said.

He said the order calls on Israel “to cooperate with the United Nations to facilitate the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid to Gaza.”

“Cooperation means that Israel must reverse its decision and allow UNRWA to reach northern Gaza with food and nutrition convoys on a daily basis and to open additional land crossings.”

Reiterating that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating, UNRWA’s chief called for more pressure on Israel to stop its months-long aggression.

“The conditions of over 2 million people are worsening. Gaza is becoming an impossible place for a dignified life. In under six months, where people did not know hunger and were largely healthy, famine thresholds are unprecedented in time and speed.”

“Member states should exert more pressure to implement the ICJ order. Those who stopped funding UNRWA should reconsider their decision to allow the Agency to fulfill its mandate including help averting famine.”

The UN and other aid agencies have warned of imminent famine due to Israel’s prevention of the land-based delivery of life-saving aid to Gaza.

Israel began hostilities in Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The regime has also cut off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Israel has killed more than 32,500 Palestinians and injured nearly 75,000 others in Gaza since the October day.

Social Media’s Role In Politics
Social media plays critical role in influencing. All politicans are on Instagram, X, says Shradha Sharma, YourStory Founder, CEO.

BJP’s South Push
The narrative is that the BJP does not have a presence in the south except Karnataka. In Tamil Nadu alone, the PM has made 26 visits between January and now. He has been consistently pursuing the cultural agenda, taking Sengol to the new parliament. Rajinikanth is on his side. He took the Chinese president to Tamil Nadu. The kind of emphasis he has laid, says Sugata Srinivasaraju, senior journalist and author.

“Siddaramaiah’s guarantee is over. MLAs are upset too. And people want Modi’s development. PM Modi has made sure every Indian has a bank account, food on the table, health insurance etc. Deprivation is less. It is there on the ground. Jobs are there, but 80% of jobs pay less than Rs 20,000. South is job surplus. Internal migration has shifted,” says TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Aarin Capital Partners.

“What’s big today is that we are not in apologetic India. The young are looking at next 10 years. This is new India. Women and young India will vote confidently,” says Shradha Sharma, YourStory founder, CEO.

On The Opposition Narrative
“The narrative that opposition is trying to build is one about lack of jobs,” says Sugata Srinivasaraju.

However, he also added, “The Congress does not have a cultural narrative or emotional connect. It makes a technocratic point. With BJP, they have Mandir, Modi, etc.”

Changing Demographics And What It Means?
“How young voters vote this time will be the precursor. Now there are more women voters. Now people want ‘Modi ka guarantee’,” says TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Aarin Capital Partners.

“We embrace diversity. When I speak to Gen Z everyone is concerned about the future of the country. We need to shed this caste, class thing. They are angry about corruption. I hope ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ happens,” says Nooraine Fazal, founding CEO and managing trustee of Inventure Academy.

The ‘Modi Factor’ In Karnataka
“Modi factor is key to BJP victory. They are bringing caste and class together. If you see their campaign, candidates say that you are voting for the PM not us. Congress is focusing on regional narrative,” says Sandeep Shashtri, Director -Academics, NITTE Education Trust and National Coordinator, Lokniti.

Battleground On NDTV: “Politics Of Sub-Caste” In Karnataka
When it comes to Karnataka, there is politics of sub-caste. Why the BJP lost in 2023 is because Lingayats did not support them. There’s a very good reason why BS Yediyurappa was brought back, says Sugata Srinivasaraju, senior journalist and author.

“When it comes to India, Kannadigas want to see who will take India forward. There is cash politics in Karnataka. When it comes to national politics, Karnataka votes differently,” says TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Aarin Capital Partners.

Does Caste Factor Matter In Karnataka?
Karnataka is a caste-centric state. BJP has now spread almost evenly across the state, says Sugata Srinivasaraju, senior journalist and author.

Decoding How Karnataka Votes
We are not thinking about cash or subsidies. Bengaluru welcomes everybody. Karnataka’s voting is how Indians are looking at the future. It is richest in per capita terms, says TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Aarin Capital Partners.

Joining Congress because it is ‘facing difficulties’, it is not opportunism: Keshava Rao

The 85-year-old leader was nominated twice as member of the Rajya Sabha twice by the BRS and he was also made the leader of BRSPP in Rajya Sabha too.

Joining Congress because it is ‘facing difficulties’, it is not opportunism: Keshava Rao

Keshava Rao

Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao, whose departure from the BRS is being likened to backstabbing, has come up with a weird explanation for his joining the Congress. He argued that he was joining the Congress because it was in more difficulties than the BRS. “The Congress has given me more power and positions too. I served as an MP and a minister during my stint in Congress for 55 years. I am joining for the love of Congress”, Keshav Rao declared at a press conference at his residence on Friday.

The 85-year-old leader was nominated twice as member of the Rajya Sabha twice by the BRS and he was also made the leader of BRSPP in Rajya Sabha too. However, he chose to shift over to the Congress along with his daughter, who is incidentally the Mayor of Hyderabad. Keshav Rao wanted the newsmen to believe that he was unaware of his daughter’s plan to join the Congress. “I am not aware of when she is joining. She is old enough to take her own decisions”, Keshav Rao replied to a questioner.

Asked what precedent he was setting for the younger politicians, Keshav Rao insisted that one should be loyal to the party. “I was in the Congress for 55 years. There is no political opportunism involved in this”, he explained.

Keshav Rao, however, reserved some good words for Telangana and the BRS leadership. Telangana emerged top in agri production, IT exports, per capita income and other fields under BRS rule. There should not be an iota of doubt about BRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, working president KT Rama Rao or Harish Rao’s commitment towards Telangana’s development. They are extremely talented and BRS cadre was also educated, he said, adding that BRS had given him immense respect and valued his suggestions.

No State can match Telangana’s development in the last 10 years. Had BRS Chief merged TRS with Congress, Telangana would not have developed at this scale, he stressed in reply to a question over the BRS Chief’s promise to merge his party, if Telangana was delivered.

“Mere failure in one election does not mean end of the road for a party,” Keshav Rao said, however there were a few reasons for the BRS party’s loss in the elections.

Pointing out that BRS MLC K Kavitha’s arrest was illegal, he reminded that she had not committed any murder and there were allegations of economic offence against her. In that case, the probe agencies should check the books and prove any irregularities, he felt.

The Rajya Sabha MP said democracy was being threatened in the country and stressed on the need to fight against such attempts. The BJP was focusing more on cultural differences unlike the I.N.D.I.A block, which was promoting unity in diversity, he observed.

China Joins Probe Into Pak Suicide Attack That Killed 5 Chinese Nationals

China Joins Probe Into Pakistan Suicide Attack That Killed 5 Chinese Nationals

Tuesday’s incident was the third major attack in little over a week

Islamabad, Pakistan:

Chinese investigators arrived in Pakistan on Friday to join a probe into the killing of five Chinese nationals in a suicide attack, Pakistan’s interior ministry said, seeking to stem assaults threatening Islamabad’s drive to modernise the economy.

Tuesday’s incident was the third major attack in little over a week on China’s interests in the South Asian nation, where Beijing has invested more than $65 billion in infrastructure projects as part of its wider Belt and Road initiative.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met the Chinese team of investigators at Beijing’s embassy and briefed them on the investigation so far, the statement said.

In late 2022, the two allied countries started a joint investigation into an attack that year on China’s nationals and its interests, which have seen a rise in recent months.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the latest attack, in which a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle into a convoy of Chinese engineers working on a hydropower project at Dasu in Pakistan’s northwest, killing six people.

The bombing followed a March 20 attack on a strategic port used by China in the southwestern province of Balochistan, where Beijing has poured billions of dollars into infrastructure projects, and a March 25 assault on a naval air base, also in the southwest. Both attacks was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the most prominent of several separatist groups in Balochistan.

Dasu, the site of a major dam, has been attacked in the past, with a bus blast in 2021 killing 13 people, nine Chinese among them, although no group claimed responsibility.

Chinese contractors suspended work on three hydropower projects in view of security concerns after Tuesday’s attack, a government official said, adding that it was a routine practice after such incidents.

Pakistan is home to twin insurgencies, one mounted by Islamist militants and the other by ethnic separatists who seek secession, blaming the government’s inequitable division of natural resources in southwestern Balochistan province.

Chinese interests are under attack primarily by ethnic militants seeking to push Beijing out of mineral-rich Balochistan, but that area is far from the site of Tuesday’s bombing.

Pakistan has set up a dedicated force of police and military to ensure security for Chinese activities, officials say.

Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire- Monster showdown spectacle that delivers on action and visuals

Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire- Monster showdown spectacle that delivers on action and visuals

Hyderabad: In a universe where we have monsters smashing up one another and making their own alliances, the best thing is an orange ape almost the size of Kong’s forearm. A good example of big is not always better.

On the one hand, you have Godzilla Minus One winning an Oscar for visual effects and Monarch proving a point that one can have compelling human characters in the midst of warring monsters and titans. On the other, you have Godzilla x Kong The New Empire – one the best in the monsterverse.

This film begins a few years post the alliance between the titans Godzilla and Kong. Godzilla is protecting the surface of the planet and mankind from attacks from other Titans. Kong is exploring his new territory in the Hollow Earth and keeping monsters from travelling to the surface. After one such escapade between Godzilla and another monster Titan Scylla, a Monarch observation outpost stationed in the Hollow Earth picks up an unidentified signal.

On the Earth’s surface, the same signal causes Jia (Kaylee Hottle), the last member of the Iwi tribe, to experience hallucinations and flashbacks. Jia’s hallucinations cause her adopted mother Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) to approach Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyree Henry), Trapper (Dan Stevens) and Mikael (Alex Ferns) to travel to the Hollow Earth to find out the cause. It soon turns out that Kong needs an alliance with Godzilla to save Hollow Earth and then the whole planet from the evil Skar King.

This outing has something for the fans of both Kong and Godzilla. Director Adam Wingard ensures a level playing field for both Titans. He gets it right in terms of action, the VFX, and the screentime for all characters including the humans.

The scene where the orange ape helps Kong or the scene where Godzilla rests in the Colosseum are bound to bring cheers from the audience. The movie is not about the humans but surprisingly perform very well in the limited time that they have. It is about the monsters and some jaw dropping VFX. This is one of those instances where the introduced interval seems longer than the 115-minute outing.

This is a clash built not only for the fans but for those willing to give it a try. This is not only a monster mayhem – this is more. Having said so, if you are looking something resembling a nuanced plot or a story about human relationships, you will be disappointed. This is not that kind of a movie. This is not that kind of a monsterverse.

Though you would want a little more screentime for both Rebecca Hall and Kaylee Hottle they hold their ground in the limited screentime. Surprisingly, it is the mini ape that steals the show. He is cunning, sad, manipulative, brave, lovable, and cute. Kudos to the VFX team.

Go for it. This circus is definitely a dekho for those who want something more than the cricket circus.

Sangareddy: Former Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has said the political environment in Telangana will dramatically change if the Bharata Rashtra Samithi (BRS) wins 10 to 12 Lok Sabha seats in the coming general elections.

Addressing the party cadre of the Andole assembly segment on Friday, Srinivas Reddy said the people were realising that they made a mistake by voting for Congress. Reddy alleged that the Congress misled people by making 420 promises, but they could not fulfill any of them.

He said the Congress government would need nearly Rs 3 lakh crore annually to fulfil the promises. This was higher than Telangana’s budget. He said the Congress government has not even released a single rupee towards the implementation of these schemes so far.

Party Zaheerabad candidate Gali Anil Kumar has called upon the party cadre to work hard at ground level to ensure the party wins the seat. Kumar has vowed to become a voice for the people of Zaheerabad in Lok Sabha by raising various issues in the area. Former Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran has said that some leaders were switching loyalties just to protect their properties. However, he has said that the cadre remained with the Party. ZP Chairperson P Manjusri and others were present.

Stimac Likely To Remain Coach Despite India's Loss To Afghanistan: Sources

The top brass of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is inclined to heed to the recommendation of its technical committee to remove national men’s team head coach Igor Stimac but contractual issues may make it difficult to do so, PTI has learnt. Also given the fact that India’s next World Cup qualifiers round 2 match is slated for June 6 against Kuwait in Kolkata, changing the man at the helm at this point in time may not be a good idea, according to AIFF sources.

“Under the circumstances, he (Stimac) is likely to be in charge of the team in the next two matches in June,” a source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

India will have to get a favourable result against Kuwait if they want to make it to the World Cup qualifiers round 3 for the first time.

After that, the Blue Tigers face reigning Asian champions Qatar on June 11 in an away match.

It is also learnt that the I M Vijayan-led technical committee wondered “how Stimac can continue (as head coach)” after the shocking 1-2 defeat to the depleted Afghanistan side in Guwahati on March 26.

India’s away match against the Afghans in Abha, Saudi Arabia, ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Stimac was first appointed head coach in 2019 for a two-year tenure. In October 2022, his contract was extended till January 2024 (when the AFC Asian Cup was held). But, in October 2023, the AIFF again extended his contract till June 2026, following India’s fine show in the World Cup qualifiers round 1 and the SAFF Championships.

Sources in the AIFF said that the initial contract had a severance clause (9.1) which provides for three months’ notice period. But the latest contract (signed in October 2023) does not have this clause, and this has created problems for the AIFF as far as sacking Stimac is concerned.

Stimac draws a salary of USD 30,000 (Rs 25 lakh approximately) per month and in the absence of the severance clause with three months notice period, the AIFF may end up paying him more than USD 750,000 (Rs 6.254 crore approximately) if the federation wants to sack him now.

The AIFF pays the whole salary to Stimac but the federation gets nearly half the amount as reimbursement from the Sports Authority of India.

“While the original contract provided the AIFF an opportunity to terminate the contract without assigning any reason with three months’ notice, the AIFF gave up this right during the contract extension period and this was documented in the amendment letter,” read the legal opinion sought by the AIFF.

“Any termination that does not comply with the agreement would give him an opportunity to claim illegal termination and compensation for all fees due to him for the rest of the term.” Shaji Prabhakaran was the secretary general of the AIFF at that time before he was sacked on November 7 last year while Nilanjan Bhattacharjee — whose services were also terminated earlier this month — was the principal legal advisor.

It is also learnt that the AIFF may look into options like whether the earlier clause 9.1 can be construed as a part of the latest contract in case the agreement signed in October 2023 was an extension of the earlier one.

“The AIFF may be looking at if the latest contract signed last year (with Stimac) is an extension of the earlier one and in that case the earlier severance clause may still subsist (even if it is not expressly mentioned),” said the source.

“Or it may be that a contract without a severance clause may be bad in law and it (the clause) can be included again.”

The AIFF is also not happy with some of the comments made by Stimac after the loss to Afghanistan and it has constituted a five-member committee comprising vice president N A Haris, executive committee members Menla Ethenpa and Anilkumar Prabhakaran, and technical committee members I M Vijayan and Climax Lawrence to hold discussions with him and seek clarification on the matter.

“The AIFF President and its members also took note of certain comments made by India head coach Igor Stimac in the press about his future with the team after the completion of the Round 2 qualifiers,” the AIFF said.

Stimac had said that he would quit in June if he does not take India to the World Cup qualifiers round 3 in June.

Hyderabad: BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao will kickstart a State-wide tour commencing from the districts of Jangaon, Suryapet and Nalgonda on March 31. He will inspect the crops withered due to lack of adequate water supply and examine the drought conditions prevailing in the State.

He will interact with the distressed farmers and instill confidence among them.

Following his instructions, the party cadre already conduct field-level inspection for three days during last week and submitted reports to the party leadership on the conditions prevailing in the State including dried crops due to lack of water as well as those damaged due to unseasonal rains.
