Iran’s Air Defense Force to unveil new generation of drones, missile systems

Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force (IRIADF) Brigadier General Ali-Reza Sabahifard

The commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defense Force (IRIADF) says the Army branch is to unveil its new generation of missile and drone systems in the current Persian calendar year, which started earlier in March.

Brigadier General Ali-Reza Sabahifard announced the information on Friday, visiting an air defense unit on the southern Iranian island of Jask.

The new-generation military hardware, he said, boasts “up-to-date and advanced capabilities.”

Sabahifard considered the IRIADF’s paramount strategy to be “creation of sustainable security,” which, in turn, paves the way for growth and progress in all areas across the country.

The force, he said, “serves as the front line of the country’s defense and guarantees sustainable security for the Islamic homeland and establishment.”

Iranian military experts and engineers have in recent years made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the Armed Forces self-sufficient.

Iranian officials have underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, which are entirely meant for defense and deterrence, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will never be open to negotiations.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has on several occasions called for efforts to boost Iran’s defense capabilities.

Sabahifard’s announcement came amid the Islamic Republic’s growing success in expansion of its defensive missile program. The country has used the missiles in attacks in recent years on terrorist targets lying as far as the Mediterranean.

The country can also produce drones capable of carrying surgical-strike missiles with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1242 miles). The aircraft also boast stealth and radar jamming capabilities as well as flight endurance of up to 24 hours.

A 24-year-old woman in the United Kingdom was left unrecognisable after a severe reaction to a lip filler dissolver. According to Metro, the woman, identified as Shaunna Harris, thought she was going to die after her throat closed up when given a shot of lip dissolver by her aesthetician. She was left “gasping for air” while her face ballooned to double its size minutes after being given the shot in January.

The 24-year-old had lip filler injected twice before to plump up her pout. She got her first 0.5ml of lip filler when she was 18, and an additional 1ml at 22. Earlier this year, she decided to dissolve her existing filler before topping up with another 1ml. However, the 24-year-old experienced a severe allergic reaction moments after the dissolver was injected.

“I went to have my lip filler dissolved and I didn’t think anything of it because I’d had lip filler put in in the past and it was all fine,” Ms Harris said, as per Metro

Ms Harris revealed that the complications began when the 1ml she wanted to dissolve had “migrated”. “Straight away I knew something wasn’t right. She gave me the dissolver and my lips just blew up,” she said. “I asked the aesthetician if it was normal and she said ‘yeah people’s lips do tend to swell up’ but it didn’t look normal,” she recalled.

The 24-year-old further said that she started to get itchy and painful hives all over her eyelids in the next five minutes. “Then within 10 minutes, my face was all blown up and swollen. I couldn’t see out of my eyes,” she said, adding, “I looked unrecognisable”.

Ms Harris said that she was “struggling to breathe” and thought she was going to die. “My body was covered in hives. I felt like my skin was burning,” she recalled.

“When they gave me the adrenaline, it opened up my airways and my breathing improved. But my face was swollen for days after. I was really worried my face wouldn’t go down. I didn’t go out of the house for three days,” Ms Harris said.

According to doctors, Ms Harris’ reaction to getting lip filler dissolved was due to an allergic reaction to hyaluronidase – a soluble protein enzyme which is often used by aestheticians to break down the hyaluronic acid found in lip filler.

Syria condemns Israel’s airstrikes on Aleppo

The file photo shows the Syrian Foreign Ministry building in Damascus.

Syria has denounced Israel’s fatal strikes that hit the province of Aleppo, calling on the international community to stop the regime’s violations of international law.

“The Syrian Arab Republic condemns the terrorist aggression launched by the Israeli occupation entity on a number of points in the countryside of Aleppo at the dawn,” the foreign ministry said in a statement carried by Syria’s official news agency SANA on Friday.

Earlier in the day, a number of civilians and military personnel were killed and injured in the attacks that also caused damage to the public and private property. The attack was carried out while a drone strike by terrorist groups also hit Aleppo City and its surrounding region.

“It wasn’t a coincidence” that the two incidents took place at the same time, the ministry said.

The Aleppo attacks were carried out just hours after the regime killed two civilians in another strike on a residential building in the countryside of Damascus on Thursday, the ministry said.

It said the Israeli violations of Syria’s territorial integrity “prove the aggressive and barbaric nature” of the regime.

Israel is “the main reason behind instability in the region and the suffering of the regional nations,” the Syrian ministry said.

The ministry urged the international community to assume its responsibilities in dealing with the “serious and repeated Israeli violations of the principles of international law.”

The regime and its allies, the ministry said, need to be pressured “to stop their attacks and crimes in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.”

Since the onset of foreign-backed militancy in Syria in 2011, the Israeli regime has stood as a staunch supporter of terrorist factions that are in opposition to the democratically-elected leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.

The regime does not acknowledge its military actions within Syria, which is widely interpreted as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s triumph over terrorism.

The Israeli attacks further escalated in the wake of the regime’s bloody campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip.

PV Sindhu Goes Down Fighting, Sikki-Sumeeth Enter Semis Of Spain Masters

India’s PV Sindhu fought her heart out before going down narrowly to Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 badminton tournament on Friday. Sindhu, who had finished runner-up in 2023, recovered from an early 4-8 deficit and saved multiple game points to grab the opening game, but she couldn’t go the distance as the sixth seeded Thai registered a 24-26 21-17 22-20 win after a see-saw battle.

However, India’s husband-wife combo of N Sikki Reddy and B Sumeeth Reddy had a lot to cheer about as they notched up a 14-21 21-11 21-17 win over Indonesia’s fourth seed Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati to enter the mixed doubles semifinals.

The women’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, seeded third, lost 13-21 19-21 to sixth seeded Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia Hsin and Teng Chun Hsun in the quarterfinals.

Sindhu had a 5-3 record against the world no. 17 Supanida with the two having played some exciting matches in the last two years.

It was as much a physical battle as of skills for Sindhu, who didn’t face much resistance in the initial rounds.

The start was slow for Sindhu as she found herself 3-7 behind at one stage but she rallied to pocket a three-point advantage with a body smash and a fine net shot.

The rallies started getting tighter after resumption as Sindhu kept ahead at 14-10, but thereafter, momentum kept changing with Supanida grabbing two game points when Sindhu found the net.

However, Sindhu unleashed two timely smashes to draw level. The Indian sent one long before producing a body smash as it was 21-21. Sindhu grabbed a game point when Supanida erred during a net dribble but she wasted it with a net error.

Sindhu’s net error was cancelled with Supanida missing the backline and it was 23-23 next. The Thai grabbed another game point by pushing one to the back but sent a forehand to net next as it was 24-24.

An excruciating rally ended with Supanida sending one wide as Sindhu had another advantage and this time the Thai again faltered at the net as the Indian pumped her fist.

The change of ends didn’t lower the intensity as the two fought tooth and nail during some exciting rallies till Sindhu opened up a 10-8 lead.

However, Supanida was quick to grab three points to enter the break with a three-point cushion.

As the match wore on, Sindhu looked a bit tired as Supanida made her run with angled returns and extended the rallies. Two power-packed smashes helped Sindhu to make it 17-18.

With two steep returns on her rival’s body, Supanida took three game points and roared back into the contest, when Sindhu dumped another one at the net.

In the decider, Sindhu recovered to take a 10-5 lead but she let it slip as Supanida reeled off five points to go 14-12 up and then grabbed five match points.

A rearguard action from Sindhu, which included two cross court and a straight smash, conjured up hopes of another reversal as she drew parity at 20-20, but two unforced errors from the Indian dashed her hopes.

Ukraine Gets $1.5 Billion Funding Tranche Under World Bank Programme

War-Hit Ukraine Gets $1.5 Billion Funding Tranche Under World Bank Programme

Kyiv, Ukraine:

Ukraine has received a $1.5 billion tranche of funding under a World Bank programme, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Friday, helping it pay for its budget and social spending as it defends itself against the Russian invasion.

Ukraine is reliant on financial aid from its Western partners but foreign financing dwindled in the first two months of this year, and a U.S. aid package has been blocked by Republicans in Congress for months.

In March, Kyiv managed to attract about $9 billion in total external financing, the Finance Ministry added. The European Union, Canada, Japan, the International Monetary Fund and Britain were among the donors.

The new block of World Bank aid was funded by Britain and Japan, Shmyhal said.

“984 million dollars come from Japan and 516 million dollars from the UK. The funds will cover budget spending for social and humanitarian needs and reconstruction,” he wrote on X.

Earlier in March, Ukraine received a 4.5 billion euro ($4.9 billion) first tranche of aid under a European Union bridging finance programme.

Kyiv spends most of its own revenues to finance its defence efforts since Russia invaded in February 2022, leaving Kyiv heavily reliant on funding from Western partners to cover its social spending.

“In 2024, external financing reached $10.2 billion, and since the beginning of the full-scale war – $83.8 billion. International assistance is directed to finance the priority social expenditures of the state budget of Ukraine,” the ministry added.

Israeli airstrike kills one in southern Lebanon

Israel has conducted new airstrikes on southern Lebanon, killing one person, amid exchanges of fire between the occupying regime and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

According to media reports, an Israeli drone targeted a moving car in Bazouriyeh in Tyre district on Friday, leaving the vehicle engulfed in fire.

The Israeli military later claimed that the victim was the deputy head of Hezbollah’s rocket unit.

Ali Abdel Hassan Naim was “one of the leaders for heavy-warhead rocket fire and responsible for conducting and planning attacks” against Israel, the statement said.

In different statements issued on Friday, Hezbollah mourned seven fighters who were killed “on the path to al-Quds.” The movement mentioned Ali Abdel Hassan Naim among them, without elaborating.

Also on Friday, three Israeli missiles targeted the valley of Shebaa, while Israeli artillery shells hit the south of Khiam town in southern Lebanon.

An Israeli missile attack also hit the village of Ayta al-Shaab.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it fired a number of Burkan missiles at a command headquarters in Biranit barracks on Friday, “hitting it directly.” According to the statement, the strike came as part of the movement’s pro-Palestine attacks and in response to the Israeli assaults on Syria’s Aleppo and Damascus.

The Lebanese resistance fighters also fired artillery shells at a gathering of Israeli soldiers in Hunin Castle.

Israeli media reports also said that an anti-tank missile was fired from Lebanon and hit Metula in the northern part of the occupied territories.

In the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms, Hezbollah forces fired a barrage of missiles at Israeli positions, including Zabdin barracks.

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire since early October, shortly after the occupying regime launched its war on Gaza.

The movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the regime continues its onslaught on Gaza.

Israel began the war on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has killed more than 32,620 Palestinians and injured nearly 75,100 others.

Balka Suman urges electors to teach lesson to Congress for making false promises

BRS district president Balka Suman along with the party’s candidate from Peddapalli Parliament segment Koppula Eshwar carries out a poll campaigning in Mandamarri on Friday

Mancherial: BRS district president Balka Suman campaigned on behalf of the party’s nominee from Peddapalli segment Koppula Eshwar in several parts of Mandamarri town on Friday. He was joined by Eshwar.

Suman urged people to vote for Eshwar, considering his struggles for rights of coal miners. He recalled that the nominee was jailed for protesting against injustice meted out to coal miners. He stated that Eshwar had played a vital role in introducing various laws for the welfare of the miners by staging dharnas.

The party district president further said that Eshwar had actively participated in Telangana movement too and resigned to the post of MLA twice. He appealed to voters to help him in winning in the polls by a whopping majority. He gave insights and strategies to be followed to ensure victory of the candidate in the polls.

He asked people to teach a lesson to the Congress which won the elections by making false promises. He said that his canvassing evoked a good response from the public. He exuded confidence that the BRS would easily win the Peddapalli segment, considering the unprecedented developmental activities and innovative welfare schemes taken up from 2014 to 2023.

Suman interacted with fruit, vegetable vendors, employees belonging to several eateries and commercial establishments, coal miners and youngsters in localities such as Government High School, vegetable market, bus stand, and other areas of the coal belt town.

Iran: Gaza tragedy tests world bodies' commitment to human rights

The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the crimes of Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza over the past six months served as a yardstick for assessing the adherence of governments to human rights.

In a post on his official X account on Friday, Nasser Kan’ani said the painful tragedy in the besieged territory has tested the commitment of countries and institutions as well as world bodies to their “human, moral, legal and international responsibilities towards human rights.”

The Iranian official also commented on the reaction of those countries claiming to advocate human rights to the horrible crime of Israeli soldiers in the southwest coast of Gaza in killing and burying two unarmed Palestinian youths. It “clearly shows how sincere they are in their human rights slogans and claims,” he said.

The Iranian spokesman’s post came after a new video showed Israeli soldiers have shot dead two unarmed Palestinian men in cold blood while they were trying to return to northern Gaza, their bodies buried in sand and rubbish by an army bulldozer.

The disturbing incident, which was captured by long-distance cameras, shows Israeli troops opening fire on the two men who were walking along al-Rashid Street and the al-Nablusi roundabout in Gaza City.

At least one of the two men repeatedly waved what appeared to be white fabric, in a sign of surrender and to show that there was no threat.

In a statement on Thursday, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said that “footage aired by Al Jazeera documenting the cold-blooded killing of two unarmed young civilians by Zionist occupation forces and their bodies dragged with a bulldozer to cover up the crime is further evidence of Zionist crimes.”

Hamas called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take “urgent action to stop the systematic killing” of the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

Israel ignited its bloody war machine in the Gaza Strip on October 7 after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Nearly six months into the hostilities, the regime has failed to achieve its objectives of “destroying Hamas” and finding Israeli captives despite killing at least 32,620 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring over 75,000 others.

Top INDIA Bloc Leaders To Attend AAP's Delhi Rally On Sunday

Top INDIA Bloc Leaders To Attend AAP's Delhi Rally On Sunday

New Delhi:

Top INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav among others will attend a ‘maharally’ to be held by the AAP at the Ramlila Maidan on March 31, senior party leader Gopal Rai said on Friday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has received the permission of the authorities concerned to hold the rally for an attendance of more than 20,000 people. It is being held in the backdrop of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, he said.

The call on whether Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal will address the ‘Maharally’ will be taken later, Mr Rai said.

Other prominent political leaders and members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) like TMC’s Derek O’Brien, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, NC’s Farooq Abdullah and Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren of JMM will also attend the rally, he said.

Kalpana Soren, the wife of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is currently in jail, will also attend the rally, he said.

The party leaders said they are also in touch with PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, who may join the rally.

According to the party’s senior leadership, they are planning a show of strength at the Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, from where they may launch a massive campaign against the ruling BJP government for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Rai said after Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, the party has held multiple protests across Delhi. They noticed two kinds of law and order on road — the Delhi police easily gives permissions to hold protests to the BJP but the opposition is not allowed for that, he said, and added that all this is happening when the model code of conduct of the Election Commission is in force.

The AAP finally managed to get the permission to hold the rally. It has also given some undertakings to the Delhi Police, the sources said.

The AAP has made a three-tier plan to motivate the people to come to the rally. First the meetings were held at the Vidhan Sabha level, then all the 2600 polling stations level and now a door-to-door campaign has started.

“We are going door-to-door to distribute invitation letters and urging people to come to Ramlila Maidan and raise their voices peacefully against democracy and dictatorship,” he said.

Mr Rai claimed that ever since the BJP government at the Centre and the prime minister arrested the popularly elected chief minister of Delhi, there has been grave anger among the people. He said the people from every class and profession, students, youths and members of RWAs are expected to come in the rally.

On Thursday, Mr Kejriwal alleged in a Delhi court that the BJP government has given bail by taking Rs 60 crore from the same businessman on whose statements he has been jailed. Therefore, today there is significant anger among the people. Entire Delhi is going to gather in Ramlila Maidan at 10 am on March 31 against this “dictatorship”, Mr Rai said.

A party leader said the theme of the party will be “tanashahi hatao, desh bachao” (save the country by abolishing dictatorship).

The AAP is expecting that all major leaders of the INDIA bloc will participate in the rally.

“To make the mega rally successful and to ensure the participation of as many people as possible, the Aam Aadmi Party has initiated the campaign of distributing invitation letters,” a party statement said.

A party leader accused the BJP government of forcing them to indulge in law and order situation, so that they could get an opportunity to impose president’s rule in Delhi.
