Hyderabad: Food delivery company Zomato has introduced a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ along with a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ for deliveries on Tuesday and netizens have taken to their social media handles to voice their opinions over the launch.

Following the launch, several users took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their views on ‘Pure Veg Mode’. Predictably the social media site has been flooded with mixed reactions from users, as some commented appreciating the launch while others commented against it.

“Zomato launching pure veg mode. Being a business they are catering to what their customers want. I really wish I could charge my phone after converting the kinetic energy of the wokes shaking with anger after this piece of news. (sic.)” said a user tweeting with the handle @GabbbarSingh.

“Zomato Has Launched “Pure Veg Mode” Along With a “Pure Veg Fleet” For Deliveries. Welcoming Move for Vegetarians Across India,” said @Ravisutanjani.

A page posting from the handle @labstamil said “Zomato introduces “Pure Veg” Mode along with a “Pure Veg” Fleet for customers who have a 100% veg preference. This fleet will only serve orders from pure veg restaurants. This means that a non-veg meal, or even a veg meal served by a non-veg restaurant will never go inside the green delivery box meant for the Pure Veg Fleet. A business is customizing for the needs of a consumer, based on feedback, but this move will definitely be branded “c@steist”, “discriminatory” and whatnot by the usual illiberals! Anybody is free to use or Not use this mode. There is no discrimination here, but logic isn’t the strong suit for virtue signalers.Let the Outrage begin!”

Lashing out at the company a person with the handle @championswimmer said “2019: Zomato said “food has no religion, food is a religion” 2024: Zomato says – untouchability makes business go brrrrrr 🚀

“Zomato launches “Pure Veg Mode” which will deliver food only from veg restaurants. This is what many startups have been doing since decades — solving a problem that doesn’t exist,” said @BolshevikSpeaks

“Lovely. Waiting for “pure veg” housing societies to attack normal red tshirt Zomato riders,” commented @peeleraja.

“zomato openly promoting casteism. now in sometime they will also start specifying the caste and religion of delivery professionals. as usual brahmins will start demanding that only upper caste person deliver their food. this is how urban India is preserving untouchability,” opined @hoopoe_is_here.

Indian defender Bijay Chhetri has joined Uruguayan football club Colon FC on loan until the year-end, his Indian Super League (ISL) club Chennaiyin FC said on Wednesday. Chhetri thus became the first Indian footballer to sign for a Latin American club. Colon is based in Montevideo, while the club competes in Segunda Division Professional (second division) of the country, where it is currently placed third on the Group B league table. “I feel so excited to get this opportunity for the new challenge in my professional career. I hope to put in good performances to enhance my game, repay the trust shown in me by Colon FC and to keep the Indian flag flying high,” Bijay said in a release.

“I am very well aware that if I do well, it can pave the way for future Indian players also to move abroad into these markets.” The 22-year-old Bijay from Manipur began his footballing career with Shillong Lajong in 2016 and made his senior appearance with Indian Arrows in 2018.

Since then, he has played for clubs like Chennai City, Real Kashmir and Sreenidi Deccan before joining CFC this season, his maiden ISL club.

Wishing Bijay luck on his move to Colon, CFC co-owner Vita Dani said, “We are extremely proud to see Bijay make his way to one of the world’s biggest football nations. Uruguay are forever etched in the game’s history, with four stars on their chest as winners of two Olympic gold medals in 1924 and 1928, the first World Cup in 1930, and then repeating in Brazil in 1950.

“And, Colon Futbol Club are part of that heritage; founded even before the first World Cup. I wish Bijay the very best, and we are all hoping for his success as he makes history as the first Indian player to secure a contract with a Latin American club.”

Koppula Eashwar demands Rs 25,000 compensation for damaged crops

Peddapalli: Former Minister and BRS candidate for Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency, Koppula Eashwar, demanded the State government to provide a compensation of Rs 25,000 for damaged crops.

Speaking after inspecting damaged crops in Chikurai of Peddapalli mandal on Wednesday, he said though more than 100 farmers died by suicide in the State during the last three months after the Congress came to power, the State government was least bothered about farmer suicides.

Before elections, the Congress government lured and duped the people by promising impossible things. However, people would teach a befitting lesson to the Congress party in the Parliament elections.

Though about 50 tmc of water flowed down at Medigadda project without utilizing any purpose during the last 100 days of Congress regime, the State government was least bothered about it.

The Congress government has completely failed in supplying water to Yasangi crops. The government was creating troubles for farmers by denying water to standing crops on the pretext of sinking of three pillars of Medigadda barrage.

North Korea TV Censors British Gardening Show Presenter's Trousers

North Korea TV Censors British Gardening Show Presenter's Trousers

Viewers with sharp eyes noticed the comical censorship

In a bizarre move, North Korean state television blurred out the jeans of veteran British gardener Alan Titchmarsh during a recent broadcast of his BBC show “Garden Secrets.” The 2010 episode aired on KCTV on Monday, but viewers with sharp eyes noticed the comical censorship – the lower half of Mr Titchmarsh’s body was pixelated to hide his jeans.

Mr Titchmarsh joked that North Korea’s censorship gave his gardening show some unexpected ‘street cred.’

“I’ve never seen myself as a dangerous subversive imperialist – I’m generally regarded as rather cosy and pretty harmless, so actually it’s given me a bit of street cred really hasn’t it?” he told BBC.

A North Korean studies expert, Seoul’s Korea University professor Nam Sung-wook, linked the jeans-blurring incident to North Korea’s newly enforced “Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act.”

“The act aims to prohibit North Korean residents from imitating foreign countries in various aspects, including how they’re dressed and speak,” he told CNN.

Mr Sung-wook said that North Korea has banned jeans for residents due to their association with American imperialism. However, foreign visitors are not subject to this restriction.

A South Korean research fellow, Peter Ward, suggests North Korea’s censorship reflects its fight against ‘anti-socialist culture and ideology.’

“Blue jeans are associated with ‘decadent’ Western culture, as they were in the Soviet Union, and Kim Jong Il ordered officials to rid the country of them back in the 1990s,” he told CNN.

“They have had campaigns against anti-socialist culture since at least the early 1990s,” said Ward. “The intensity of these campaigns has increased, especially since 2020.”

That year, the Reactionary Ideology and Culture Rejection Act was introduced, prohibiting the populace from distributing, viewing, or listening to any cultural content classified as anti-socialist.

During that period, the state-operated Korean Central News Agency stated that the law aimed to prevent “the spread of anti-socialist ideology and culture… in order to safeguard the North Korean ideology, spirit, and culture.”

North Korea has long been isolated from the global community, enforcing strict controls on freedom of expression, movement, and access to information. The country’s poor human rights record has drawn criticism from the United Nations. Internet usage is severely restricted, and even those with access to smartphones are limited to a government-controlled and heavily censored intranet.

Foreign materials such as books and films are prohibited, with severe penalties for individuals caught possessing contraband obtained through the black market.

The officials told the villagers that they would investigate the incident and take action against the headmaster, who was later let off.

Arvind Kejriwal's Arrest Will Benefit AAP Electorally: Atishi

Atishi said the upcoming Lok Sabha polls have become a ‘People vs BJP’ election.

Delhi minister Atishi on Wednesday said the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will benefit the AAP electorally in the Lok Sabha polls as the party is getting a lot of sympathy.

In an interview with PTI, Atishi termed the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in an excise policy-linked money laundering case as an attack on democracy that was “never seen before” in the democratic history of the country.

“The good thing is that it has benefited us electorally,” she said, adding before the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the result of Lok Sabha polls was a forgone conclusion as people were of the view that the BJP was going to win.

“But after Kejriwal’s arrest, the level of public sympathy has gone up for us. There is just one sentiment that the BJP has gone one step too far. So, I would feel it has benefitted us electorally,” Atishi told PTI.

She said the upcoming Lok Sabha polls have become a ‘People vs BJP’ election.

“This election has become a very different kind of election. This is no longer an ‘AAP vs BJP’ or ‘INDIA bloc vs BJP’ election. After the arrest of Kejriwal, this is a ‘People vs BJP’ election,” she said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case and subsequently remanded in the agency’s custody till March 28 by a court here.
