After Hindenburg Verdict, Mahesh Jethmalani Alleges "Cabal" In Supreme Court

Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani has alleged that a “cabal” is operating in the Supreme Court bringing politically motivated petitions, “acting at the interest of foreign powers inimical to the interests of India”.

Speaking to NDTV hours after the Supreme Court verdict in the Hindenburg case, he cited it as proof that such petitions — brought on basis of newspaper reports and other flimsy evidence — will not be acceptable.

Such petitions are “inadmissible” and even the top court has made it clear, he said.

The bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said the allegations of OCCRP – an organisation funded by billionaire George Soros and others – can’t be the basis for doubting SEBI’s investigation into the Hindenburg case.

Responding to the petitioners’ appeal for the case to be transferred, the bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said the power to transfer investigation “must be exercised in exceptional circumstances”.

The court made it clear that newspaper reports and such cannot be accepted as evidence, Mr Jethmalani said, citing in this context that Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra’s tweets had apparently figured in the petitions in the case.

“There is a cabal in the Supreme Court that revels in this kind of thing and I am sorry to say that some of the issues that they take up in the Supreme Court are not in national interest. That is the best that can be said about them,” said Mr Jethmalani.

The predecessor of the Hindenburg case, he said, was the one on Rafale, which also met with failure in the top court, he said.

Every time it was the “same lawyers, same petition,” he said, pointing out that even te review petition for Rafale got dismised.

“It keeps happening. The same bunch of people, acting at the interest of foreign powers inimical to India’s interests,” he said. He added a “word of caution” — saying every time such petitions are brought, it would get turned down by the Supreme Court.

Iran to export industrial products to EAEU markets

Mohammad Sadeq Qannadzadeh pointed to the recently inked Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union and said that the agreement is the first multilateral free-trade document of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He pointed to the policy of multilateralism and the development of international relations emphasized in the administration of President Ebrahim Raeisi and stated that Iran has joined numerous multilateral agreements in the world, all of which have good economic and trade capacities, Mehr news agency reported.

The FTA inked between Iran and member states of the union is one of the best exercises for the development of multilateral agreements, he said, adding, “Under the agreement, Iran will import agricultural inputs, raw materials and basic goods from EAEU’s member states and export industrial and production goods with high added value.”

Qannadzadeh referred to the cooperation of the private sector in the agreement and said the current administration is determined to support the private sector of the country for the promotion of trade and economic activities.

The free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran was signed during the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg on December 25.

In 2018, Iran and the EAEU inked a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which came into effect on October 27, 2019. The two sides later began negotiations to upgrade the PTA to an FTA after the success of the former.

Hezbollah to start all-out war in case of Israeli aggression

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech on the fourth anniversary of top Resistance commanders General Qassem Suleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis on Wednesday.

At the start of his speech, Hassan Nasrallah reiterated condolences and felicitations on the martyrdom of General Suleimani, Hajj Al-Muhandis and their Iraqi companions.

He further condemned terrorist attack in Iran’s Kerman, offering condolences to the families of the martyrs.

Meanwhile, he offered felicitations on Sayyeda Az-Zahraa (A.S.) Birthday and the advent of the new year.

Nasrallah further offered condolences on the death of Hezbollah official Hajj Mohammad Yaghi and the martyrdom of the IRGC commander Sayyed Radhi Al-Moussawi in an Israeli attack on Damascus countryside.

He also offered condolences on the martyrdom of Hamas official Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri.

The Hezbollah secretary general went on to extend condolences on the martyrdom of the Resistance fighters in Lebanon and Gaza.

“Martyr Suleimani’s image, might and determination are present in all fields of resistance,” he said, adding that ” All the resistance achievements rely mainly on the sacrifices of martyr Suleimani.”

“One of the main features of the loyalty of martyr Suleimani to the resistance was that he used to help every group to reach self-sufficiency,” the Hezbollah leader further said about the assassinated Iranian general.

“Iraqi paramilitary and resistance fighters found Martyr Suleimani as the main supporter,” he continued to say, adding that the “US occupation forces were expelled from Iraq in 2011, thanks to the Iraqi resistance supported by Martyr Suleimani.”

“Martyr Suleimani contributed mainly to sustaining ties among the resistance groups in the entire region under the title of Axis of Resistance”, according to Nasrallah, adding that, “Martyr Suleimani was keen on sustaining the communication among the resistance groups in order to coordinate the acts of confronting the Israeli enemy.”

“Resistance groups in the region act according to the conditions of the country they exist in despite the strategic agreement on identifying the enemies, friends and targets,” he added, while saying that “Some political writers and analysts think that Iran orders all the Axis of Resistance, as some regimes do with the groups they control.”

“Axis of Resistance is joined by masters who take their decisions independently, not servants who obey regulations blindly,” he said, “Axis of resistance has been facing the most serious challenge since the start of the Zionist war on Gaza on October 8.”

“When we observe the grandiosity of the outcomes of the ongoing confrontation with the Israeli enemy, we will become satisfied and more determined to continue,” according to Hezbollah leader, adding that “The first outcome is revitalizing the Palestinian cause after it was about to be thrown in oblivion.”

“The second outcome is striking the bet on the exhaustion of the Palestinian people and resistance,” Nasrallah said, adding that, “The third outcome is the rise of the popular support to the resistance groups in Palestine.”

“The fourth outcome is the moral fall of ‘Israel’ and its image before the international community,” he further noted, adding that “The fifth outcome is striking the normalization path between some Arab regimes and the occupation entity.”

“The sixth outcome is the appearance of the Israeli entity as the main violator of international laws,”  he said, adding “The seventh outcome is smashing the deterrence power of the Israeli enemy.”

“The eighth outcome is overthrowing the information superiority of the Israeli enemy,” he said, adding that, “The ninth outcome is the Israeli failure to reach a swift victory.”

“The tenth outcome is the failure of the Israeli air force to settle the battle” Nasrallah said, adding that “Nasrallah to Israeli defense minister: You will never be able to achieve the targets of the war on Gaza.”

“The twelfth outcome is eradicating the Israeli image of capability and power,” Hezbollah leader said, adding that “The thirteenth outcome is the military failure and the psychological repercussions of the war on the Israelis.”

‘The fourteenth outcome is the Israeli failure to reach any of the war objectives,” he said, adding that, ” The fifteenth outcome is deepening the internal strife among the Israelis.”

“The sixteenth outcome is smashing the American image and presenting USA as the main violator of the international laws,” Nasrallah went on to say, adding that “The seventeenth outcome is the failure of the international organization to protect the civilians in Gaza.”

“All the Lebanese must acknowledge that only power can protect them from the Israeli aggression,” he continued, adding that “Hezbollah joined the battle to support the Palestinian people and resistance in Gaza.”

“Had not Hezbollah joined the battle on October 8, the Israeli enemy would have waged a surprising war on Lebanon,” Hezbollah leader further underscored.

“Resistance power in Lebanon has prevented the Israeli war on Lebanon,” he noted.

“Hezbollah fighters are ready to start an all-out war in case of any Israeli aggression on Lebanon,” the secretary general of the Lebanese Resistance movement further said.

“Up till now Hezbollah is engaging in tuned battle with the Israeli enemy, but limits will disappear if ‘Israel’ wages an all-out war on Lebanon,”

Noida:

A domestic help working in a group housing society near Noida was bitten by a dog, prompting a police case against the pet-owner for negligence on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 5 pm at the Galaxy Royal Society in Gaur City 2 area under the Bisrakh police station limits, they said.

The 34-year-old domestic help was bitten by a German Shepherd breed dog while she was waiting in the gallery of the 18th floor of Tower B of the society where she worked, according to the complaint lodged by her husband.

The main door of the neighbouring apartment was ajar and the dog came out of the house, pouncing on the domestic help and leaving her severely injured before the pet-owner gained control on the canine.

“A similar incident had happened two months ago with a maintenance staffer of the society by the same dog,” the complainant claimed, urging the police for “strict action” under a “criminal case” against the owner of the German Shepherd.

He also alleged that the pet owner “intimidated” the domestic help against filing a police complaint.

Bisrakh police station in-charge Inspector Arvind Kumar said an FIR has been lodged against the owner of the dog.

“The FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals), 504 (intentional provocation to breach peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation),” Kumar told PTI.

The official said an investigation into the case is underway and while the offence is bailable it could attract a prison term or fine, or both.

Quickest Newlands track I have seen with inconsistent bounce: SA batting coach Prince

Cape Town: India pacer Mohammed Siraj might have bowled the spell of his life during the second Test on Wednesday but South Africa’s batting coach Ashwell Prince has never seen a quicker day one strip at the Newlands Stadium with such “inconsistent bounce”.

“Siraj bowled one of the spells of his life,” Prince said, praising the Indian fast bowler for his 6 for 15 which saw Proteas get skittled out for 55.

“If you combine that with two good bowlers with the new ball in their hands in favourable conditions, that is what you get,” the former South Africa skipper said after the close of play on Day 1. However, he didn’t mince words while criticising the track.

“Having played a lot of cricket on this ground, and having also been a coach here, I have never seen the pitch being that quick on day one. It usually speeds up on day two,” Prince observed.

“But you need the bounce to be consistent. “I think the bounce was a little bit inconsistent. You have seen some balls bouncing steep and some keeping low. But you don’t mind the seam movement on day one. The amount of balls that took off from length and keepers took above their heads was extensive,” he said. Prince also offered a theory that a lot of construction work taking place adjacent to Newlands might have also affected the character of the track.

“I don’t know if the lots of construction taking place here are affecting this pitch. If two line-ups can’t bat on a surface, that says a lot.”
