Raeisi cancels his planned trip to Turkey

Following the terrorist incident in Kerman, which resulted in the martyrdom of a large number of our compatriots, president Raeisi canceled his trip to Turkey to personally follow up on this issue, Mohammad Jamshidi, the deputy director of political affairs at the president’s office announced on Wednesday night while appreciating the invitation of the Turkish President.

This trip will be done at another convenient time, Jamshidi added.

A Turkish official said last week that the talks will focus on the situations in Gaza and Syria as well as bilateral ties,

This is while planned visit by Raeisi in late November was postponed due to the conflicting schedules of the two regional powers’ foreign ministers, the official also said. At the time, Turkey’s foreign minister was in New York as part of a “contact group” of Muslim countries on Gaza.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Wednesday parted ways with their head coach Juan Ferrando after the club’s poor run of form in the Indian Super League. Technical director Antonio Habas was made the interim head coach, starting with the Kalinga Super Cup next week, the Indian Super League franchise announced. Ferrando was appointed the Mariners’ head coach in December 2021, joining the Kolkata heavyweights from FC Goa.

Under him, Mohun Bagan won the ISL title last season and made the AFC Cup inter-zonal semi-finals. Mohun Bagan also won the Durand Cup with Ferrando at the helm of affairs this season.

“Thanks to Juan Ferrando for winning this year’s Durand Cup and ISL 2022-23,” Mohun Bagan said in a brief statement.

The iconic club’s performance dipped this season as they made a group stage exit from the AFC Cup, and slumped to fifth position in the ISL standings after three defeats in a row.

Habas previously managed ATK Mohun Bagan during the ISL 2021-22 season and he was the first head coach to win two ISL titles.

The Spaniard began his journey with Atletico de Kolkata during the inaugural 2014 edition and became the first head coach to win the ISL title.

He had a stint with FC Pune City later on before returning to India to join ATK FC, leading them to the ISL title during the 2019-20 season.

Habas was back at ATK Mohun Bagan the following season and guided them to the ISL final. He parted ways with the Mariners midway during the 2021-22 season with Ferrando taking charge.

Ahead of the ongoing season, Habas made a return to the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise, this time as the technical director.

Mohun Bagan are clubbed with arch-rivals East Bengal in the Kalinga Super Cup. The Mariners will begin their campaign on January 9.

The arch-rivals will lock horns against each other on January 19.

Telugu Yoddhas stamped their dominance over Mumbai Khiladis, notching up a 40-22 victory in Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2

Hyderabad: Telugu Yoddhas stamped their dominance over Mumbai Khiladis, notching up a 40-22 victory in Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Wednesday.

This was the largest margin of victory this season. With the victory, Telugu Yoddhas leapfrogged Gujarat Giants into second place. For Mumbai Khiladis, who had looked to be on the up over the previous two matches, it will now be back to the drawing board.

It was Telugu Yoddhas who attacked first and they made the most of it, scoring 16 points in Turn 1 while only allowing their opponents a single dream run point. It was a team effort from the Telugu Yoddhas attackers, with six different players contributing to their team’s tally.

They then consolidated that advantage with a stunning defensive display in Turn 2. Their first batch of Pratik Waikar, Avdhut Patil and Aditya Ganpule stayed on the mat for five minutes and 17 seconds, garnering five dream run points. All three members of their second batch managed to remain unconquered as the first innings finished with Telugu Yoddhas leading 21-7. It was the lowest attacking turn of Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2.

It was always going to be a long road back from there for the Mumbai Khiladis and their fortunes did not change for the better in Turn 3. Their first batch lasted a mere minute and 33 seconds. Their third batch, consisting of Hrushikesh Murchavade, Sibin M and Pratik Devare, did fare better, scoring a dream run point. But that made little difference to the overall picture as Telugu Yoddhas went into the final turn with a mammoth 29-point lead.

Leader: Criminals behind Kerman attack must await harsh response

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says those who ordered and carried out the twin terrorist attacks in the southeastern Iranian city of Kerman will definitely face a fitting punishment and a harsh response.

“Once again, the evil and criminal enemies of the Iranian nation have created a catastrophe, bringing about the martyrdom of a large number of beloved people in Kerman,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a statement on Wednesday.

The enemies should know that the soldiers of Soleimani’s shining path will not tolerate their vile and crime and both the hands that shed the blood of the innocent people and the corrupt and mischievous minds that misled them would be tracked down as they would be target of a “fitting punishment” from now on.

The message came hours after at least 103 people were killed and 211 injured in two explosions against mourners who were on their way to visit the tomb of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general who was assassinated four years ago on this day in a US drone strike near the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

“The callous criminals could not tolerate the people’s love and enthusiasm for visiting the resting place of their great commander, martyr Qassem Soleimani,” the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei vowed that those behind the terrorist attack will be hunted down and face a “fitting” and “definite” punishment.

“They should be aware that this tragedy will undoubtedly be met with a harsh response,” he stated.

The Leader concluded the statement by extending his solidarity and condolences to the bereaved families of the victims. “I pray to the Almighty God for their patience and consolation.”
