Hamas: Netanyahu between devil and the deep blue sea
The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement has reacted to the reports that top Israeli officials have rejected prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request to hold a joint press conference with him, stating that the chairman of the Likud party has two choices that are both equally unpleasant.
“Netanyahu is between the devil and the deep blue sea. He must either step down and stand trial before settlers, or continue the Gaza onslaught and face justice at the hands of fighters from the al-Qassam Brigades – Hamas’s military wing,” Izzat al-Rishq, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, said late on Saturday.
He added that Netanyahu is now isolated and rejected even by high-profile figures of the regime’s war machine.
“Crest-fallen Netanyahu is trying to escape from his repeated failures,” Rishq said, noting that Netanyahu, despite having declared opposition to any of Hamas’ provisions, has come to the terms that it is the Palestinian resistance front which is imposing conditions and has the upper hand on the battlefield.
“By God’s grace, resistance fighters will emerge victorious at the end of Gaza war, and will terminate all forms of the Zionist occupation,” the senior Hamas official said.
The fate of Netanyahu and the Israeli military hang in the balance amid developments on the ground in Gaza. Israelis will eventually rise up against him as they are really fed up with his flat-out lies, Rishq continued.
“In the face of fallen victims as well the courage and resilience that Palestinians have put up, the aggression on Gaza must stop before anything else. The Palestinian nation will not settle for less than complete removal of all restrictions and livelihood in full freedom,” the Hamas official pointed out.
On Saturday evening, Israeli minister of military affairs Yoav Gallant and war cabinet member Benny Gantz turned down Netanyahu’s request to hold a joint press conference with him.
A source in Gantz’s National Unity party told the Hebrew-language Walla news site that “there is no special reason to hold the [press] conference. We did not see it as right to take part.”
Channel 13 news attributed the refusal by Gantz and Gallant to their anger at Netanyahu for preventing the war cabinet from deliberating the issue of “the day after” in Gaza, along with concerns the prime minister will again make political statements at the event.

The star midfielder further dedicated the trophy to his country and the Spanish club.
“I have to have big goals, to win the lot if possible. I enjoy playing for my country, England, and with Real Madrid as well. The pressure is huge but I’m so happy to represent both of these teams. I’m going to give it my all to win trophies both for my country and for Real Madrid,” Bellingham said after winning the trophy as quoted by Real Madrid’s official website.
Earlier, Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or gala, again recognising him as the best player under 21 footballer.
The Englishman scored his last goal for the Los Blancos in LaLiga against Villarreal, in which Real Madrid won the game by 4-1.
Currently, the Los Blancos are in their top form in the La Liga. They are leading the league standings with 45 points after winning 14 out of their 18 games.
Real Madrid also topped their Champions League group, and have been drawn against German side RB Leipzig in the Round of 16.

In no respite from the bone-chilling winter, the people in Delhi-NCR woke up to yet another morning of cold wave on the last day of the year with thick layer of fog all over the national capital and adjoining areas.
The minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, the city’s primary weather station, was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius.
The dense fog enveloped the city, reducing visibility. Visuals coming from Subroto Park, DND flyover, and India Gate showed the vehicular movement crippling owing to less visibility.
According to the IMD, ‘very dense’ fog is when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, 51 and 200 metres is ‘dense’, 201 and 500 metres ‘moderate’, and 501 and 1,000 metres ‘shallow’.
Apart from it, the Met office has forecast dense to very dense fog at most places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, at many places over Uttar Pradesh, at a few places over Uttarakhand, at isolated places over the northern parts of Rajasthan and dense fog at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir and the lower division of Himanchal Pradesh on Sunday.
Meanwhile, IMD has said that the mercury would plunge further in the first week of January 2024, with temperature hovering between 10 and 7 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung Observatory in the national capital.
Earlier on Saturday, passengers travelling to and from the national capital also faced difficulties due to the foggy weather conditions, as several flights and trains were delayed and diverted due to low visibility.
According to sources, around 80 flights were reported to be delayed due to weather conditions at Delhi’s IGI Airport till 8.30 am on Saturday.
Caller Warns Mumbai Police Of Serial Blasts In City, Cops Find No Bombs

An anonymous caller on Saturday evening warned Mumbai Police of serial blasts in the city, officials informed on Sunday.
“Mumbai Police Control received a threat call on Saturday evening, around 6. The caller claimed that there would be serial blasts in Mumbai before hanging up,” an official said on Sunday.
The police swung into action and carried out searches at several key public places and installations across the city. However, no explosive devices or anything suspicious was found.
“Police are currently trying to find out the details of the caller,” the official informed, adding that a further investigation is underway.
Earlier, on December 27, the Jaipur airport authority received an email with the sender threatening to blow up the airport.
After receiving the threat email, terminal manager Anurag Gupta filed a complaint at the Jaipur Airport police station.
The airport authority informed the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and other security officials, following which a search operation was launched at the airport.

Hyderabad: A fire broke out at a factory at Shamshabad on Sunday morning leading to property loss. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to fire officials, the fire broke out at a plastic material godown and factory located at Satamrai in Shamshabad.
On information fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames.
The fire was brought under control after two hours.
Officials suspect the fire might have started due to a short circuit. However investigation is going on to ascertain the exact reasons.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Commissioner of Police, Avinash Mohanty transferred two Inspectors working at Moinabad and Mokila police station.
The Inspector P Venkat Ranga and P Naresh were issued transfer orders on Saturday.
There are complaints of allegedly indulging in corruption against the Moinabad Inspector following which the Cyberabad CP transferred him.
