Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza hit again a day after deadly Israeli attack

Palestinian medical authorities say dozens of people have lost their lives and scores of others sustained injuries in a new “massacre” targeting the densely-populated Jabalia refugee camp in the northern sector of the besieged Gaza Strip.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that several airstrikes hit the residential area of Faluja in the camp on Wednesday.

Local sources said scores of people killed or wounded are arriving at the Indonesian hospital in Gaza City.

It was the second attack on the camp in less than 24 hours.

Jabalia is the largest of the Gaza Strip’s UN refugee camps housing people forcibly expelled by Zionist militia and Israel in 1948. The area is reportedly home to nearly 120,000 people.

EU foreign policy chief ‘appalled’ by Jabalia attack

Meanwhile, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell wrote in a post published on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was “appalled by the high number of casualties following the bombing by Israel of the Jabalia refugee camp.”

“Laws of war and humanity must always apply, including when it comes to humanitarian assistance,” Borrel noted.

Turkish FM slams ‘one standard for Ukraine, another for Palestine’

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also questioned why the international community rallied around Ukraine after Russia’s military campaign, but has been largely silent on the fate of Gaza.

“There cannot be one standard for Ukraine and another for Palestine. If we want a just world, we must always act in a principled and consistent manner,” Fidan said.

He added, “We do not want the human tragedy in Gaza to turn into a war that affects the region.”

“These inhumane sieges and attacks against our Gazan brothers are a clear violation of international law,” the top Turkish diplomat noted.

Moreover, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has released updated casualty figures from the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

At least 8,796 people have killed since 7 October, including 3,648 children and 2,290 women, according to officials.

Around 2,000 people are still missing, including 1,100 children. The vast majority of these people are believed to be dead and buried under rubble.

At least 22,219 people have been wounded.

Drug Kingpin Arrested In Himachal In NIT Student's Death Case: Police

Police said there are seven cases registered against the accused under NDPS Act (Representational)

Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh:

A drug kingpin has been arrested in connection with the death of a first-year M.Tech student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Hamirpur, police said on Wednesday.

The NIT student died on October 23 due to suspected drug overdose.

The accused, Ravi Chopra, was arrested late Tuesday night and booked under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for culpable homicide besides sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after 1.60 gram of ‘chitta’, a form of adulterated heroin, was recovered from his possession, Superintendent of Police (SP) Akriti Sharma said.

The SP said Chopra is the kingpin of drugs in Hamirpur and added that this is the seventh case registered against him under the NDPS Act.

Police had earlier arrested seven people, comprising five NIT Hamirpur students, a B.Ed student and another person, in connection with the first-year student’s death and for possessing drugs.

The student’s body was found inside his hostel room on October 23 and the investigations pointed out that drug overdose led to his death following which police conducted searches at several places.

Police said the investigations revealed that Rajat Sharma, one of the seven accused arrested earlier in connection with the death case, had links with Chopra and both had done dealings worth lakhs of rupees in the past 20 days.

Meanwhile, the NIT management has banned two girl students from living in the hostels here as they were found drunk while entering the institute two days ago.

There are reports that the Union HRD Ministry has directed the director of NIT here to submit a detailed report about drug-related activities and the student’s death in the institution recently.

At the 14th convocation of the NIT held recently, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur had taken strong exception to drug-elated activities in the institution and blasted the management for its failure to deal with the situation firmly.

NIT Hamirpur Registrar Archana Santosh Nanoty said six wardens of the institute had been shifted and new wardens have been appointed.

Nanoty said work was on to repair the walls of the institution through which the students used to enter or leave the campus in an unauthorised manner during their off hours.

She added that no one would be allowed to enter or leave the institution after 9 pm and the security personnel would take strong action against the defaulters.

Rahul Gandhi goofs up again; speech galore with blunders

Hyderabad: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has once again proved that he hadn’t done much of a homework before coming to Telangana, with his speeches in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district on Wednesday being replete with factual errors and allegations without any basis.

Gandhi, who had claimed on Tuesday that he was coming to Telangana as a ‘brother and son’, alleged that the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), like the BJP, was against an Backward Class census and against giving power to the OBC community.

However, what the ‘brother and son’ forgot was that Telangana was among the first five States in the country to pass a resolution in the State, that too more than two years ago itself, demanding a BC Census.

The ‘brother and son’ also did not know that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has for long been demanding the Centre to set up an OBC Welfare Ministry. In fact, Chandrashekhar Rao, while serving as a union Minister, had submitted a representation to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on December 17, 2004. The UPA government however did not consider his demand.

After Telangana formation, Chandrashekhar Rao set up an exclusive BC Commission for the welfare of BCs in the State. The Commission has also made several appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up a BC census. The Chief Minister recently also wrote to the Prime Minister demanding a 33 percent reservation for OBC, apart from launching multiple schemes including BC Bandhu.

Another folly in Gandhi’s poorly crafted speech was the allegation that the Chief Minister and his family members were holding key portfolios, which he claimed the Excise Ministry, which generates revenue for the State government. Fact is that the Excise Ministry in Telangana is held by V Srinivas Goud.

However, the Congress MP kept repeating these false charges at the Nagarkurnool public meeting and again at a road show in Jadcherla as well.

Parineeti Is “Waiting” With First Karwa Chauth Minimal Yet Trendy Mehendi

Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra has had an action-packed year with her grand Indian white wedding grabbing more than a few headlines for its minimal yet chic style, beauty and decor. But if you thought that’s where the star’s wedding glamour story ends, think again. For her first Karwa Chauth after marrying AAP MP Raghav Chadha, Parineeti proved that she is on point with the latest trends, by choosing a mehendi style that is en vogue this season. The Tiranga Star picked a figure design of a woman dressed in a lehenga holdinga sieve in one hand as she peeks a glance at the moon through it. Her lehenga features intricate detailing on the lower half of her flared skirt which extends to her fingers. Her dupatta carried the same intricate designs pairing well with the skirt and matching blouse. The overall look was minimal and yet very much on trend. While it’s unclear where Raghav’s name or initials are hidden in her mehendi, one can only assume that Parineeti followed tradition and a cosy spot in which to nestle that oft-used detail in her mehendi. Her pink choodas were clearly visible in the image that she shared on social media. She described the moment in just one word, “waiting” and added a moon emoji as well.

For more on those and to watch those in the making, watch the video below.

For their first Karwa Chauth Mehendi, most brides opt for a less heavy-duty version of the bridal mehendi but like Parineeti, Kiara Advani went the minimalist route by far with just a tiny star int he center of her palm and her wedding bands shining through.

Siddipet Police Commissioner N Swetha said policde had taken Raju into custody after he was discharged from Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad on Wednesday.

Siddipet: Ghatani Raju, the prime accused in the attack on Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, has reportedly confessed to the police that he attempted to kill the BRS Dubbak candidate to trigger some sensation and grab the attention of the public.

Siddipet Police Commissioner N Swetha said police had taken Raju into custody after he was discharged from Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad on Wednesday. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday after being thrashed by BRS cadre immediately after the attack at Surampally village in Doulathabad mandal.

After primary inquiry, investigation officer Kamalakar produced Raju before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days, after which he was shifted to the Cherlapally Central Prison. He explained cross connections of ‘Raj-Dharm’, ‘Praja Dharm’ and ‘Maryada’ with lawful limitations on the power of legislature.
