Kolkata:
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hit out at the BJP-led central government, alleging that it was conspiring to arrest all opposition leaders before the next year’s Lok Sabha polls and cast votes for themselves in an “empty country”.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned by the ED for questioning in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case on November 2, while several other leaders were also served notices, she said and claimed that phones of opposition party MPs are being hacked.
Ms Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress supremo, continued with her demand from the Centre to release MGNREGA funds due to West Bengal and extended the November 1 deadline set by her party till November 16.
“Before next year’s elections, they (BJP) are trying to gag the voice of all opposition parties. They are planning to arrest all opposition leaders before the polls so that they can vote for themselves in an empty country. They are hatching a conspiracy,” Ms Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat.
“They (Centre) have sent a notice to Arvind (Kejriwal). Five-six MPs have said their phones have been hacked… Let them continue to do it. We cannot humiliate our motherland,” she said.
On the issue of MGNREGA funds due to the state, she said Governor CV Ananda Bose had promised that he would take up the matter with the Centre.
“Today was the last day, but nothing has happened so far. If the MNEGRA dues are not cleared by November 16, we will declare our next course of action,” Ms Banerjee added.
The TMC boss said that on November 15, her party would hold a party meeting at the city’s Netaji Indoor Stadium to decide on their next course of action on the issue.
To a question on the arrest of state Forest Minister Jyotipriya Mallick by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the ration scam, she said her party would reply to the query.
The TMC supremo, however, held the erstwhile Left Front government responsible for the multi-crore ration scam and lauded the arrested former food minister for doing a commendable job by digitising ration cards.
“I will not respond to the legal part of this issue as the accused needs to defend himself,” Ms Banerjee said.
She claimed that when the TMC came to power in 2011 defeating the CPI(M)-led Left Front, there were one crore fake ration cards in the state.
“Many brokers took people’s rations and sold those outside. I have cancelled those 1 crore fake ration cards. I have filed a case against them and arrested them. A charge sheet has been issued against them,” she said.
In an apparent reference to Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the chief minister said an investigation is on against the BJP leader to prove his involvement in corruption.
“I am just thinking aloud. There are some people who own 60-70 fishing trawlers besides many benami properties and petrol pumps… We are recovering documents as well. Many things will come out if we start digging,” she said.

Not just south film stars, but Bollywood star Sunny Doel, who was a BJP MP as well, was among those who hailed Hyderabad’s growth and wanted to settle down in the city, said KTR

Industries Minister KT Rama Rao addressing party workers at Uppal.
Hyderabad: Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said not just south film stars, but Bollywood star Sunny Doel, who was a BJP MP as well, was among those who hailed Hyderabad’s growth and wanted to settle down in the city.
Telugu actress Laya, who was living in the United States, when she returned to Hyderabad recently, said Los Angeles was no match to the city, the Minister said, adding that many corporate companies were certifying that Hyderabad was emerging as a global city.
Addressing party workers at Uppal here on Thursday, the Minister said before 2014 during the Congress tenure, industrialists in the neighbouring Cherlapally had staged protests demanding power supply. They had even approached the Congress government that they were prepared to bear additional charges for power but could not bear two power holidays a week. Similar was the case with drinking water supply, which was supplied once in a fortnight, he said.
Apart from extending infrastructure facilities, the BRS government in Telangana had focused on ensuring peace and harmony. There was no Andhra-Telangana panchayat or Hindu-Muslim clashes in the last 9.5 years, he said. In the last few years, Uppal had undergone metamorphosis. There used to be chaos at Uppal crossroads and to address the traffic woes, the State government constructed a skywalk at the junction. But the Centre’s NHAI did not consider the appeal to let the State government to construct the Uppal-Narapally flyover, which was still being executed at snail’s pace, the Minister said.
“This Uppal – Narapally flyover showcases the difference between K Chandrashekhar Rao’s government, which constructed 35 flyovers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which is struggling to complete the Uppal and Amberpet flyovers,” Rama Rao said amidst cheers from the gathering.
Slamming the Congress for its opportunistic politics, the BRS working president said local MP and TPCC president Revanth Reddy was never bothered about the public’s woes. The Congress leader was neither in sight during the floods nor any emergency situation, he said.
The Telangana government has been appealing for defence lands for taking up different infrastructure projects. Revanth Reddy never raised this issue in the parliament, he said, adding that on the other hand. Revanth Reddy, who was caught red-handed in the cash-for-vote scam, was challenging the Chief Minister not to bribe voters. It was Revanth Reddy, who had listed out the scams of Congress party during his tenure in Telugu Desam, he said, pointing out that people were calling the Congress MP as “Rate-entha Reddy (What is the price Reddy).
Former Chief Minister M Chenna Reddy had admitted openly that Congress leaders were involved in the 1990 riots to dethrone his government, the Minister said, asking the gathering: “Do we need a Congress government that can stoop to any low for power?”
Each BRS worker should visit 25 houses in the constituency in the next 25 days and explain to the people about the Telangana government’s welfare and development programmes, he added.
BRS working president KTR stated while Kaleshwaram was a blessing to Telangana, the Congress was a curse to the entire country

Hyderabad: Dubbing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi as India’s ‘Pappu’ and TPCC president A Revanth Reddy as Telangana’s ‘Pappu’, Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday said the two had visited the Kaleshwaram project posing as engineering experts and were misleading the people with their observations.
Sharing pictures of expansion joints of the structure, the two were claiming that those were cracks. This reflects their lack of awareness on the subject, he said.
The BRS working president stated while Kaleshwaram was a blessing to Telangana, the Congress was a curse to the entire country. “Rahul Gandhi is not aware of history nor does he try to learn. He should either change the script or change the scriptwriter,” Rama Rao said.
Reacting to Gandhi’s charges on corruption in Kaleshwaram, Rama Rao said this was akin to the demon preaching the scriptures. The TPCC president on the other hand, was the biggest blackmailer and a corrupt leader, who was caught red-handed in the cash-for-vote scam, and was now selling the party’s assembly tickets.

“Revanth Reddy is much more dangerous than Dawood Ibrahim and Charles Sobhraj,” Rama Rao said, adding that the Congress, popular as Scamgress, had a rich history of scams, with one scam for almost every letter of the alphabet, starting with A for Adarsh Scam, B for Bofors Scam, C for Common Wealth Scam and so on.
Reminding that Congress union Ministers, State Ministers and even the Prime Minister had gone to jail, besides leaders being questioned in the National Herald case, he said Rahul Gandhi’s comments on honesty and integrity had left people in splits.
“When the Telangana government spent Rs.80,000 crore on the project, how can there be a corruption of Rs 1 lakh crore?” he asked, pointing out that in 2008, the Congress government had prepared a plan for the Pranahita project and estimated that it would cost Rs. 40,000 crore. However, the plan had no reservoirs, canals or pump houses.
“Considering different factors, the estimates would naturally increase after 15 years,” Rama Rao said.
Babu Mohan had issued a video statement saying that he was opting out of the elections soon after the BJP released its first list of candidates without his name

Sangareddy: The BJP candidate list, which has actor-turned-politician P Babu Mohan as the candidate from Andole constituency, has surprised many, since Babu Mohan had issued a video statement saying that he was opting out of the elections soon after the BJP released its first list of candidates without his name.
However, his name now figures in the second list. Babu Mohan has contested the last six elections from the constituency. While he won the 1998 by-election and the 1999 general election on a TDP ticket, he lost in 2004 and 2009. Babu Mohan then joined BRS and won in 2014. He later joined the BJP ahead of the 2018 elections as he was denied a ticket. This will be the second time he will be contesting on a BJP ticket.
Interestingly, the BJP has decided to field Ramachandra Raja Narasimha from Zaheerabad. Ramachandra is the younger brother of senior Congress leader Damodara Raja Narasimha, who will be in the fray from Andole constituency on a Congress ticket. The BJP denied the Zaheerabad seat to Delhi Vasanth, who joined the BJP a month ago after failing to secure a BRS ticket.
Keeping the announcement of candidates for Sangareddy and Siddipet pending, the BJP has announced candidates for Narayankhed and Medak assembly constituencies. While it will field senior journalist J Sangappa from Narayankhed, Panja Vijaya Kumar is the candidate from Medak. The BJP had already announced candidates for the constituencies of Gajwel (Etala Rajendar), Dubbak (M Raghunandan Rao), Patancheru (Nandishwar Goud) and Narsapur (Murali Yadav).
