TEHRAN, Oct. 01 (MNA) – The Two Iranian brothers Nima and Noshad Alamiyan claimed a bronze medal on Sunday in the men’s doubles table tennis in the 2022 Asian Games.
Israeli occupying forces have attacked Palestinian worshippers and reporters as hundreds of extremist settlers forced their way into the flashpoint al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East al-Quds.
Early on Sunday, hundreds of Israeli settlers once again broke into al-Aqsa under the protection of the regime’s forces and carried out provocative actions in the holy site.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Jordan-run Islamic Waqf Department, which is in charge of al-Aqsa Mosque affairs said Israeli forces closed the the Moroccan Gate, also known as the Mughrabi Gate, “after allowing 602 Jewish extremists” into the site.
According to witnesses, Israeli settlers entered the holy site in groups.
The al-Quds Governorate published a video on its Facebook account of Jewish settlers trying to enter animal sacrifices inside the complex.
Citing local sources, Palestinian media reported that the occupation soldiers beat up worshipers and journalists who were covering events in and around the holy compound in East al-Quds.
Calls for the regular presence of Jewish extremists in the al-Aqsa Mosque have increased in recent days concurrent with holidays marking a Jewish festival.
Israeli police began allowing the settler incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in recent years, despite repeated condemnations from Palestinians.
Israeli settler incursions into al-Aqsa Mosque and violence against Palestinians have been on the rise since the far-right extremist cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took office last December.
Such mass settler break-ins almost always take place at the behest of Tel Aviv-backed temple groups and under the auspices of the Israeli police in al-Quds, leading to daily confrontations with Palestinians at the mosque, with many injured, arrested and killed.
This is while non-Muslim worship at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound is prohibited according to an agreement between the occupying Israeli regime and the Jordanian government following the regime’s illegal seizure of East al-Quds in 1967.
The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas on Sunday condemned Israel’s continued desecration and attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in the occupied al-Quds, saying the Tel Aviv regime has launched “a religious war” against the holy site to implement its plan of dividing it by any means.
Israeli army targets journalists across occupied territories with impunity
The occupied Palestinian territory has seen many journalists killed in the line of duty in recent years. Israel targets non-combatants frequently, especially journalists and medics.
Tel Aviv regime forces recently targeted Palestinian photojournalist Ashraf Abu Amra while he was covering similar protests.
In 2018, volunteer medic Razan Al-Najjar, 21, was shot and killed while tending to Palestinians wounded during the Great March of Return protests in Gaza.
In May 2022, the Israeli army shot dead Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh.
Several reports and human rights groups concluded that slain Al Jazeera reporter Abu Akleh was intentionally targeted by Israeli troops, dismissing the Israeli regime’s account that the killing was unintentional.
Abu Akleh was shot in the head and killed by the Israeli army forces on May 11 of that year while she was covering their raid in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. At the time of her killing, the 51-year-old journalist was wearing easily recognizable press attire.
The Israeli army has reportedly killed more than 55 journalists in the occupied Palestinian territory since 2000.

Located on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between the main carriageway and service road, the track will be open 24×7, giving a major push to the dedicated bicycling community in Hyderabad
Published Date – 10:22 PM, Sun – 1 October 23
Hyderabad: Taking a significant leap toward an environmentally sustainable future in urban transportation, the country’s first solar roof cycling track was inaugurated here by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday. This innovative track named Healthway is the second of its kind globally.
Located on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between the main carriageway and service road, the track will be open 24×7, giving a major push to the dedicated bicycling community in the city. It is also a vital step in the direction of making Hyderabad, the active mobility capital of the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the track, the Minister revealed plans to set up a similar track around the Gandipet Lake, and in Financial District and Neopolis areas.
“This cycling track is a viable and self-sustaining project. The main goal here is to get our kids enthused about cycling and mobility so that they do not have any lifestyle-related illness in the future,” he said, adding that more sports facilities like skating ramps and tennis courts will be added along the track.
The 23-km path has two stretches – a pink line of 8.5 km from Nanakramguda to Telangana State Police Academy and a blue line of 14.5 km from Kollur to Narsingi – converging at Narsingi Junction with five different access points. It is a three-lane track that is 4.5 meters wide, with one meter of green space on either side.
Spearheaded by Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the track is expected to become a prime hangout with facilities like ample parking space, surveillance cameras, food courts, drinking water, first aid, and restrooms. In a bid to make it easier for visitors; bicycle repair shops, along with cycle docking and rental stations and other services will also be made available.
Apart from protecting cyclists from the sun, rain, and other weather conditions; the solar roof panels and the track itself will isolate them from main traffic on the roads, enhancing safety.
A total of 16,000 solar panels were installed in a record time of just 18 days. This will generate 16 megawatts (MW) of power which will be utilized to light up the track at night and is also expected to fulfill some other power requirements of ORR.
The idea of building this track came when the MA&UD Minister spotted a tweet by noted environmentalist Erik Solheim that showcased the cycling track in South Korea between Daejeon and Sejong.
Gaetz said McCarthy was in “brazen, material breach” of agreements he made with House Republicans in January when he ran for speaker
Updated On – 10:20 PM, Sun – 1 October 23
Washington: Rep. Matt Gaetz said on Sunday he will try to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a fellow Republican, from his leadership position this week after McCarthy relied on Democratic support to pass legislation that avoided a government shutdown.
Gaetz, a longtime McCarthy nemesis, said McCarthy was in “brazen, material breach” of agreements he made with House Republicans in January when he ran for speaker. As a result, Gaetz said he would be filing a “motion to vacate the chair,” as House rules permit.
No speaker has ever been removed from office through such a move. Procedural votes could be offered to halt the motion or it could trigger a House floor vote on whether McCarthy, R-Calif., should remain speaker.
“I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid,” Gaetz, R-Fla., told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy.” McCarthy has the support of a large majority of House Republicans, but because the GOP holds such a slim majority, he may need votes from some Democrats to keep his job.
“The only way Kevin McCarthy is speaker of the House at the end of this coming week is if Democrats bail him out,” Gaetz said.
In response, Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., spoke of Gaetz’s “diatribe of delusional thinking.” Lawler told ABC’s “This Week” that Gaetz was acting for “personal, political reasons.” The rules of the House allow for any single lawmaker — Democrat or Republican — to make a “motion to vacate the chair,” essentially an attempt to oust the speaker from that leadership post through a privileged resolution.
In January, McCarthy, hoping to appease some on the hard right as he fought to gain their vote for speaker, agreed to give as few as five Republican members the ability to initiate a vote to remove him. But when that was not good enough for his critics, he agreed to reduce that threshold to one — the system that historically has been the norm.
Proponents of allowing a lone lawmaker to file the motion said it promotes accountability, noting its long history in the House. The last use of the motion was in 2015, when then-Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, a Republican who later became President Donald Trump‘s White House chief of staff, introduced a resolution to declare the speaker’s office vacant. Two months later, Boehner, R-Ohio, said he would be stepping down.
US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic and military assistance to Ukraine as Washington itself is struggling to keep funding the government.
In a statement released on Saturday, Biden said US support for Ukraine could not be allowed to lapse, and that he expected Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy to “keep his commitment to the people of Ukraine and secure passage of the support needed to help Ukraine at this critical moment.”
“While the Speaker and the overwhelming majority of Congress have been steadfast in their support for Ukraine, there is no new funding in this agreement to continue that support. We cannot under any circumstances allow American support for Ukraine to be interrupted,” Biden added.
The US president also said the deal to avert a shutdown was “good news for the American people” but added that “we should never have been in this position in the first place.”
The statement came after a bill ensuring funding until November 17 received overwhelming support and was signed into law by President Joe Biden minutes before a deadline.
Congress approved the bill a few hours after the House of Representatives passed the measure 335-91 after Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy broke ranks with members of his party who insisted that any bill had to pass the chamber with only Republican votes.
The bill received support from 209 Democrats, far outnumbering the 126 Republicans who voted in favor, leading Democrats to consider it a victory.
But the loss of Ukraine aid was a blow to lawmakers from both parties vowing to support President Volodymyr Zelensky following his recent Washington visit. The Senate bill included $6 billion for Ukraine, and both chambers came to a standstill on Saturday as lawmakers assessed their options.
Moreover, supporters of Ukraine in the House, Senate and White House said they would not give up despite the defeat, emphasizing that most members of Congress still back the additional funding. They also noted that the stopgap spending bill approved would only fund the government until mid-November, providing another opportunity to push again for money for Ukraine.
The US has approved four rounds of aid to Ukraine in response to Russia’s war, totaling about $113 billion, with some of that money going toward replenishment of US military equipment that was sent to the frontlines.
In August, Biden called on Congress to provide for an additional $24 billion. Russia has repeatedly warned against Western funneling funds into the Ukrainian conflict, which would prolong the plight of war on both sides.

Hyderabad: Allowing the timeless customs of rural Telangana culture to thrive within his creations, veteran artist Agacharya turns his memories from a young age into uncomplicated yet profound art pieces.
His latest solo art exhibition ‘Visual Narratives’ at Chitramayee State Gallery of Art in Madhapur, features some of his best paintings that throw light on simple village life.
Adapting the artistic lifestyle from childhood, he drew inspiration from his surroundings. Hailing from the Gattuboothkur village in Karimnagar he treasured his experiences and now exudes them on blank canvases.
“All my inspiration is from rural life. I use my memories as a child to paint these pictorial narratives. And I do this to keep that culture alive,” he says, reminiscing about life before modern technology.
Showcasing the rural environment that is in touch with nature, Agacharya’s collection of 82 paintings displays women in traditional attire. And although none of his characters beam with a toothy smile, his mastery enables him to paint faces that show subtle emotions.
The 75-year-old worked as a drawing teacher for the majority of his life, which not only kept his passion alive but helped him navigate the changing terrains in the world of art.
“Earlier, I used to draw pictures for stories that would be printed in our regional newspapers. But that is almost extinct now. As an artist, changing ourselves with the time is as important as retaining our love for art and hard work,” he says.
