Iranian kurash wrestler Barimanlou claims silver in Asian Games

Iranian kurash wrestler Majid Vahid Barimanlou

Iranian kurash wrestler Majid Vahid Barimanlou has featured notable displays of physical might and grappling skills at the  19th edition of the Asian Games in China, and picked up a silver medal at the high-status continental event.

The Iranian athlete was defeated against Uzbekistan’s Artyom Shturabain 0-8 in the final match of the men’s minus 66-kilogram weight division.

He had defeated Vietnamese Cong Hoang Hai, Taipei’s Hao Cheng Chan and Tajikistan’s Murodzoda Khairandeshi in his march to the last competition.

The Turkmen national wrestling competition, kurash (also written as goresh), is a kind of wrestling on belts that has ancient roots, and dates back to as early as the third century BC. Wrestlers need to earn points by forcing the opponent to touch the mat with any part of the body except a foot.

Kurash competitions are staged in four formats, namely round, shootout, mixed and team.

During the round format contests, athletes compete with all wrestlers in the same weight category. If there are many wrestlers in one weight division, the participants are divided into two groups. Wrestlers who earn the first and second places in each group will be in action for the final showdowns.

Wrestlers are eliminated from the rest of the competition once they lose in the shootout format.

In the mixed format, wrestlers start with the round format for the preliminary round and then shift to the shootout format.

According to the team format, only one athlete from each weight category of a team is allowed to participate. Participating teams will fight one-on-one in the competitions.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.

Vande Bharat train to be cleaned in 14-minute

Indian Railways is on the verge of a significant breakthrough as it is set to achieve a historical milestone- the 14-minute cleaning miracle for every Vande Bharat train.

Vande Bharat train to be cleaned in 14-minute

New Delhi: Indian Railways is on the verge of a significant breakthrough as it is set to achieve a historical milestone- the 14-minute cleaning miracle for every Vande Bharat train, official sources said on Saturday.

The Vande-Bharat trains known for their indigenization are equipped with cutting-edge facilities for passengers to offer a swifter, comfortable and remarkably convenient travel experience.

According to the Ministry of Railways sources, these trains will be covered under the “14-minute miracle” scheme which is set to be launched on October 1 at Terminal Stations across Indian Railways as part of the ‘Swachhata-Hi-Seva’ campaign.

The scheme will be formally launched at the Delhi Cantt Railway Station.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate this groundbreaking initiative at the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station on Sunday.

Simultaneously, more than 32 Vande Bharat trains across the nation will adopt this swift cleaning mechanism, making it a daily affair.

Emulating the rapid cleaning procedures witnessed in Japan’s Bullet Trains, where they achieve a cleaning time of 7 minutes, this new endeavour by Indian Railways is poised to redefine the standards for train cleanliness.

A process that once consumed 3-4 hours will now be executed within a mere 15 minutes, top sources of Ministry of Railways informed ANI.

The sources said that each coach of the Vande Bharat train will be cleaned by a dedicated team of four cleaning staff. Extensive training programs, spanning over a month, have equipped these staff members for the meticulously planned manual cleaning process. Multiple mock drills have further fine-tuned their skills, ensuring a seamless execution of the rapid cleaning operation.

It is notable that earlier this year in January, Railways Minister Vaishnaw had hinted at a transformation in the cleaning process of India’s premium trains. Now, with this initiative, the Railways plans to extend the same efficient cleaning mechanism to all trains once proven effective and fully functional.

It is pertinent to note that in light of the millions of passengers who travel daily, the initiative aims to elevate their travel experience to a world-class standard, where cleanliness plays a pivotal role.

The Vande Bharat Trains, known for their semi-high-speed service, initially commenced operations in February 2019 from Delhi to Varanasi. Presently, 68 Vande Bharat train services are operational throughout the country. This new leap in efficiency is expected to redefine passenger expectations and enhance the overall railway travel experience.

"Look At His Record…": Ex-India Star's 'Doctored Pitch' Attack On Ashwin

Former Indian cricket team spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan launched a huge attack on Ravichandran Ashwin citing his record against SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries and even suggesting that pitches were ‘doctored’ specifically to help him. Ashwin made a sensational comeback to Team India for the recent concluded ODI series against Australia and he was picked as the replacement for the injured Axar Patel in India’s squad for Cricket World Cup 2023. Sivaramakrishnan suggested that Indian batters are struggling to play spin as the pitches are doctored for Ashwin.

“Indian batsman are struggling against spin because the pitches in India are doctored for Ashwin in Test matches. Look at his record in SENA Countries,” he posted in response to a fan who suggested that Ashwin’s selection could help India in the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023.

The former spinner launched further attacks on Ashwin and said that he would have to wait for his India selector for a longer time if not for Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni.

“If not for CSK and MSD , he would have to wait longer as Harbhajan was bowling superbly at that time. Played for India, Left India Cement and went and joined the Rival Company Chemplast. What LOYALTY FROM THE GREAT MAN. You must build a temple for him. 1 full white ball state tournament bowled Leg Spin, Anyone else would have been kicked out,” he posted on the social media platform.

That was not the end of the matter as Sivaramakrishnan continued with his tirade on Ashwin and even went on to call the veteran India spinner “unfit” and a “liability”.
