No consequences from using depleted uranium shells in Ukraine

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continues to monitor the situation in Ukraine, he said at a press conference, according to TASS.

“Today, the practical application of the IAEA’s safety standards and nuclear security guidance is severely tested by the war in Ukraine, and we are taking stock of what we have learned so far, conducting an internal review and initiating a technical document,” Grossi pointed out.

He also claimed that “more than 20 deliveries of nuclear safety and security-related equipment have been made to different organizations in Ukraine since the start of the armed conflict,” urging allies to supply more.

On September 6, the US announced the allocation of another $175 million military aid package to Ukraine, including for the first time depleted uranium shells for Abrams tanks. Earlier, the UK reported that Kyiv had been supplied with this type of ammunition.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the US decision to supply depleted uranium shells to the Kyiv regime “very bad news,” recalling that the use of their analogues by NATO forces in Yugoslavia had “very sad consequences, which have been documented by international organizations,” including an increase in the number of people suffering from cancer.

Israel threatens to target Iran’s ‘highest echelon’ in yet another bluff

The head of the Israeli spy agency Mossad has accused Iran of plotting attacks on the occupying regime’s interests around the world, threatening to assassinate senior Iranian officials as he claims Tel Aviv is prepared to strike “the heart of Tehran.”

David Barnea claimed at an annual conference of the Institute for Counter-Terrorism Policy (ICT) at Reichman University in the Israeli city of Hrezliya, north of Tel Aviv, on Sunday that Mossad had foiled 27 anti-Israel attacks “orchestrated, masterminded and directed by Iran” over the past year.

“The captured squads and the weapons seized alongside them all had specific targets,” Barnea said, adding that the attempts occurred “all over the world, in Europe, Africa, the Far East and South America.”

Barnea claimed, “All of this was under Iran’s direction and guidance. We are currently working to track Iranian squads to prevent them from harming Jews and Israelis worldwide.”

The Mossad chief said Israel would go after the agents involved in the plots as well as the commanders who sent them to carry out the attacks, warning that Israel’s response would go all the way to Iran’s “highest echelon.”

“The time has come to exact a price from Iran in a different way,” Barnea said, claiming, “Harming Israelis and Jews in any way — by proxy, by Iranians, or by Iranian weapons smuggled into Israel — will lead to activity against the Iranians … and also against the decision-makers, from the ground operators to the commanders who approved the operation, to the highest echelon.”

Barnea warned, “These prices will be exacted with great precision in the depths of Iran, in the heart of Tehran.”

The head of the Israeli spy agency also briefed the participants on the structure of Iran’s intelligence community, using a chart that featured Major General Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib at the top.

Iranian officials have on numerous occasions condemned Israel’s threat to use military force against the country’s military, non-military and vital infrastructure, stressing that Tehran will not hesitate to respond decisively to any threat or wrongful action by the Tel Aviv regime.

Iran-Russia cooperation

Pointing to the long-time military cooperation between Iran and Russia, Barnea claimed that Iran intended to provide Russia with short- and long-range missiles in addition to drones that would be used in Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine.

The head of the spy agency said Israel was concerned about Russia selling advanced weaponry to Iran that could pose an existential threat to the occupying regime.

“Our fear is that the Russians will transfer to the Iranians in return what they lack, advanced weapons that will certainly endanger our peace and maybe even our existence here,” Barnea said.

The Mossad chief also expressed his worries about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and a potential agreement with world powers that would see sanctions on the Islamic Republic eased.

Kaif identifies Kohli vs Shaheen as pivotal matchup in the game

New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif delved into the high expectations placed on Virat Kohli as he faces Pakistan in this highly-anticipated match at the Asia Cup 2023.

He highlighted Kohli’s remarkable ability to overcome challenges and his stellar record against Pakistan, emphasising that when Kohli takes to the field against Pakistan, his performances speak volumes.

Speaking exclusively to Star Sports, Kaif said, “Overcoming challenges is one of Virat’s best qualities. That has become his habit. It’s a big match, and his record against Pakistan is great. Whenever he plays against Pakistan, his bat does the talking. And people have high expectations of him.

People have expectations from someone who performs regularly. For newer players, as it is a big game, the expectations are not as high. But the senior players, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, if they fail, the fans don’t like it at all. There is no compromise on that; they have to perform with the bat and continue their form for the past two or three years and perform well at the World Cup also.”

Furthermore, Kaif discussed the pivotal matchup that cricket enthusiasts eagerly await – the battle between Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi. He highlighted Kohli’s special quality of thriving in big matches and his aggressive approach, emphasising that he won’t shy away from taking on the opposition’s bowlers.

Kaif also spoke on what the key matchup will be at the greatest vivalry between India and Pakistan.

“Shaheen will continue to bring the ball in, bowling his inswing. He has told it himself that his game plan is very simple, bring the ball in and fast, whatever the batsman wants to do let him, his game plan is straightforward – bring the ball in, hit the pad and hit the stumps. So it will be exciting to see Virat Kohli in the form he is in to take him on; it is the most key matchup of the game. What makes Virat special is his ability to play in the big matches, and he won’t play on the backfoot. Naseem Shah, Afridi or Rauf, whoever is bowling, don’t play on the backfoot. If you get the chance, even on the first ball, look for the boundary.”

Now the problem with me is that for three-four years I have heard that Indore is the cleanest city…you have bought the survey. It’s a simple thing.” Mr Grover, however, immediately clarified he was not saying there was filth in Indore, and that he meant several construction works are going on in the city.

An NCR was registered against Mr Grover under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 (defamation) and section 500 (punishment for defamation) on the complaint received from the Indore Municipal Corporation, Lasudia police station in charge Taresh Kumar Soni told reporters.

“After an NCR is registered, if the complainant wishes, he can file a case in court at his personal level,” Mr Soni explained.

Indore’s Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said, “I have seen Grover’s video. His statement is an insult to the hard work of the city’s people and sanitation workers for cleanliness. We will take appropriate legal action against this insult and also serve him a notice for defamation.” Indore Municipal Corporation chief sanitary inspector Sanjay Ghavri, on whose complaint the NCR was lodged, told PTI that Grover’s controversial statement had insulted the people of the city.

“This statement has hurt thousands of sanitation workers of the city who are engaged in cleanliness work from early morning till late night,” Mr Ghavri said.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

Every year, Iraq receives millions of Imam Hussein (AS) lovers of different races and ethnicities who go to Karbala mostly on foot during the Arbaeen procession. The Arbaeen ceremony is held more magnificently every year.

Last year, nearly 21 million pilgrims participated in the ceremony. Considering this year’s statistics, a significant increase in the number of pilgrims is witnessed; The Iraqi government has announced that 25 million people took part in this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage.

This year, Iranians made up the majority of foreign pilgrims taking part in the Arbaeen trek, with the participation of about four million people.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

While Iraq was having its hottest days during this year’s Arbaeen procession days and the temperature in most parts of the country reached more than 40 degrees, the number of pilgrims significantly increased compared to the previous years. Despite the hot weather, Arbaeen pilgrims trekked long distances to reach the shrines of Imam Hussain (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS).

In such a situation, the presence of pilgrims from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Sweden, South Korea, and China along with pilgrims from Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Nigeria was noticed by media outlets.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

The glory of hosting

Now this question comes to mind: “How did the Iraqis host millions of pilgrims?” To answer this question, we depict their hospitality in a glimpse.

As in every year, the Iraqi mawkibs (voluntarily prepared stations) this year started their activities a few weeks before Arbaeen in order to serve the pilgrims more successfully. Of course, the Iranians also set mawkibs to help the Iraqis in hosting the pilgrims as well.

Hosting millions of pilgrims by the people of a war-torn country is a difficult task that requires serious faith and determination. Many Iraqi people love Imam Hussein (AS). When you interact with them, you realize that some of the hosts are just simple workers who have worked for a whole year to serve Imam Hussein’s pilgrims with their savings.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

The sincere devotion of the Iraqis to the third Imam of the Shiites can clearly be seen throughout the whole Arbaeen route. Most of them set up tents and mawkibs on the route to serve the pilgrims with all their possessions, even with a loaf of bread or by washing the pilgrims’ feet. They consider serving the pilgrims a great honor for themselves.

The moment the pilgrims enter Iraq, they will be welcomed by Iraqis with a smile and by getting directions to the holy Karbala. If the pilgrims are thirsty, the Iraqis will treat them with a glass of water, and in return, they will only ask for saying “Ya Hussein”. because they know very well that Imam Hussain (AS) will reward the hosting, himself.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

With every level of livelihood situation, the Iraqi people welcome pilgrims to their homes so that they can rest and have food for a few days.

But the mawkibs on different routes to Karbala depict the depth of this hospitality. They serve the pilgrims day and night by offering food and hot and cold drinks and even providing services such as massaging.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

Therefore, there is no shortage in this route, and the Iraqi people, as the hosts of this great epic, sincerely provide the pilgrims with everything they have.

Ali Yamani, one of the Iraqi mawkib owners, says: “We started our activity about 2 weeks before Arbaeen, and we start cooking and distributing sweets and cakes in the morning, and cooking falafel starts around noon. In the evenings, we also cook french fries and offer pizza at night.”

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

Some mawkibs insist that pilgrims should take even a bite from their food. Of course, long lines may be formed to get food from some mawkibs, but no one returns empty-handed, and the phrase “There is no more food” has no meaning here. Also, despite the hot weather in Karbala, there is so much food and water that no one remains thirsty or hungry.

Appreciating the generous, history-maker hosts

Iranians, from the country’s high-ranking officials to the citizens, always praise and thank the tireless efforts of the Iraqi people and the statesmen in holding the Arabeen procession.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, recently, thanked the Iraqi government and nation for hosting the Arbaeen pilgrims, saying that the Iraqi government cooperated a lot in facilitating the entry of pilgrims into Iraq. He also appreciated the people of Iraq for their generous hosting of Arbaeen pilgrims.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Baghdad Gholamreza Abazari hailed the Iraqi officials, security forces, and nation for gloriously hosting the pilgrims during the Arbaeen trek.

What do Iranian people think about Iraqis?

The Iranian people, just like the country’s high-ranking authorities, always appreciate the humble hosting of the Iraqi government and nation in this journey.

For instance, in the clip below, Iranian people who went on the Arbaeen trek were asked what they thought about the Iraqi hosts. Everyone thanked the Iraqi people and said that there is no host in the world like the Iraqis.

Also, in the documentary below which is about the 2022 Arbaeen, the hospitality of the Iraqi people can be clearly seen.

Even the Iranians launched a campaign on X social media, formerly known as Twitter, to express their gratitude for Iraqis’ hosting.

How Iraqi people became the best hosts in history

In the end, it must be admitted that the hospitality of Iraqis is unique in history; They have been trained since childhood to host the pilgrims of Imam Hussein (AS) regardless of their nationality and race.

Even though the opposition media did their best to sow differences between Iranians and Iraqis, all their efforts failed and this year’s Arbaeen procession was held more magnificently than in previous years.

Luis Rubiales resigns as Spanish soccer chief over World Cup kiss controversy

Luis Rubiales resigns as Spanish soccer chief over World Cup kiss controversy

New Delhi: Luis Rubiales stepped down from his role as president of the Spanish soccer federation and vice president of UEFA following intense criticism over his unwanted kiss with FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Jennifer Hermoso.

“Today, at 9:30 PM, I have submitted my resignation from the position of President of the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) to the Acting President, Mr Pedro Rocha. I have also informed him that I have taken the same step regarding my position at UEFA so that my role in the Vice Presidency can be replaced,” Rubiales said in his statement late on Sunday night.

“After the quick suspension carried out by Fifa along with the ongoing proceedings against me, it is evident that I will not be able to return to my position. Insisting on remaining in limbo and clinging to it will not contribute to anything positive, neither for the Federation nor for Spanish football,” he added

Rubiales said he hoped his departure would boost Spain’s joint bid with Morocco and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup.

“I make this decision after ensuring that my departure will contribute to the stability that will allow both Europe and Africa to remain united in the dream of 2030, which will enable our country to host the world’s biggest event,” said Rubiales.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) also confirmed that Rubiales has resigned as chief of the Spanish Football Association as well as vice president of UEFA.

“The Royal Spanish Football Federation confirms that Luis M. Rubiales Béjar has presented his resignation tonight. This has been made known to the federative entity through a letter to Pedro Rocha Junco. In addition, he also resigns from his position as vice president of UEFA,” it said in a statement.

The 46-year-old Spaniard was provisionally suspended by global governing body FIFA for 90 days while a disciplinary investigation takes place. Pedro Rocha stepped into the role in the interim.

Rubiales’ unwanted kiss on Hermoso after the Spanish team’s victory in the World Cup final on August 20 sparked criticism in Spain and across the world.

The 46-year-old had previously offered an apology and characterized the kiss as “mutual”, a statement contradicted by Hermoso, who asserted that she did not give consent and felt disrespected.

Following the controversy, 81 Spanish players, including all 23 World Cup winners, declared they would not represent the national team as long as Rubiales remained in his role.

Furthermore, World Cup-winning head coach Jorge Vilda also voiced criticism against Rubiales, and his entire coaching staff resigned in protest against the federation president.
