Ministers Harish Rao, Sabitha Indra Reddy inaugurate pharmacy college in Siddipet

Ministers T Harish Rao, Sabita Indra Reddy are talking to B-Pharmacy students after inaugurating the new college building in Siddipet on Monday.

Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the State government had completed the process of setting up a pharmacy college besides building an ultra-modern building in six acres in the district within eight months after it was granted.

The college was built at Ramancha in Chinnakoduru mandal just eight kilometres away from Siddipet near Ranganayaka Sagar. The college was built by the Exhibition Society of Hyderabad. Since it was built close to the Ranganayaka Swamy Temple, it was named after the presiding deity as Sri Ranganayaka Swamy College of Pharmacy.

Harish Rao along with Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy inaugurated the college on Monday. The college will commence this academic year with a 60-seat intake in B-Pharmacy course as the Pharmacy Council of India accorded permission for the course. During the second phase of counseling, which begins on September 17, the students can opt for college during the online counseling.

Harish Rao said the State government was also planning to introduce M-Pharmacy and Pharma D courses from the 2024-25 academic year. The construction of the ground floor of the proposed G 6 floor building has been completed so far. Addressing the gathering, the Minister said Siddipet had become a hub for educational institutions as a Medical College, Agriculture College, Veterinary College, Pharmacy College, Nursing College and several such institutions were established here.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had put the entire Telangana ahead in development. Stating that Telangana had diversity in development, Harish Rao said Telangana was number one in paddy production and in the number of MBBS seats per lakh of population as well in the country. The State had 22 MBBS seats for one lakh population, which was the highest in the country.

Erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had focused just on the IT sector, ignoring agriculture leading to the State losing balance in growth. Unlike the previous governments, Chandrashekhar Rao was focusing on all sectors equally, which has ushered in an all-round development of the State. The development was evident in the fact that the people of Telangana had the highest per capita income in India, he said.

Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Zilla Parishad chairperson V Roja Sharma and others were present.

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts for the third time this year

Webcam images show fissures at the base of the volcano’s crater that are generating lava flows on the surface of the crater floor.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that the eruption “does not pose a lava threat to communities” though volcanic particles and gases may create breathing problems for people exposed.

The eruption was preceded by a period of strong seismicity and “rapid uplift” of the summit, according to USGS. The agency elevated Kilauea’s aviation color code from orange to red as it evaluates the eruption and its volcano alert from watch to warning, Reuters reported.

Located in a closed area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. In 2019, a string of earthquakes and major eruption at Kilauea led to the destructions of hundreds of homes and businesses.

The volcano erupted in January and June of this year.

Colombo: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) offered an extremely positive weather update ahead of India’s highly anticipated Asia Cup clash against Pakistan on Sunday.

On its official X (Formerly known as Twitter) handle, ACC posted a picture of the P Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The cloud coverage over the stadium is very small and the skies are clear, a news surely thrilling for millions of fans watching live and from home.

“Current weather update: The skies are clear as we all gear up for an exciting contest! #AsiaCup2023 #PAKvsIND,” tweeted ACC.

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik also offered fans a positive weather update in Colombo ahead of the much-anticipated Asia Cup Super Four clash between India and Pakistan. India and Pakistan will lock horns in their much-anticipated Asia Cup clash in Colombo. The excitement and anticipation for the clash is even more after their Group stage match was washed out due to rain. India scored 266 in their innings with top knocks from Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (87) but the rain gods did not let any further action take place.

“Weatherman DK” took to Twitter to share pictures of the sky, which Karthik feels is decent enough to give fans a “cracker of a game”. He is part of the commentary team for the tournament, having last played an international match during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia last year.

The weather is way brighter, open with no big signs of rain though there are clouds. Notably, it did not rain during yesterday’s Super Four clash between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. “The weather looks decent for #INDvPAK Looking forward to a cracker of a game! #WeathermanDK,” tweeted Dinesh.

In the Super Four stage, Pakistan is at the top with a win in their match against Bangladesh and a total of two points. Sri Lanka also has one win in their match against Bangladesh and hence two points. Bangladesh is pretty much out of the competition with two losses and most of the competition is now between Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.

Dunzo to now pay salaries ‘batch-wise’ after several delays

Bengaluru: Homegrown quick-grocery delivery provider Dunzo, which has been delaying salaries for its employees after being unable to raise funds, has further delayed paying its staff and will now do it “batch-wise”.

According to sources, the quick-grocery delivery provider once again failed to pay some of its employees as it was to start disbursing salaries from September 4.

“Due to certain procedural requirements, we have to do this batch-wise. It may take an additional day or two for us to facilitate this transfer for everyone,” Dunzo told employees in an email.

“Rest assured you will receive your August 2023 salary within this week without fail,” according to the email.

Last month, reports surfaced that Dunzo delayed salaries to the first week of October after being unable to raise funds. The startup previously committed to make payments on September 4, from the earlier July 20 date, Money Control had reported.

“We sincerely apologise for this delay. Ensuring that you receive your due compensation as early as possible is our top priority. Please be assured that we are doing everything to make this happen, and we are confident that there will be no further delays after this,” according to an earlier email from the startup.

It had also promised employees to pay an interest of 12 per cent per annum on the salary component that it held back from June.

Earlier in August, it was reportedly in advanced talks to raise between $80-100 million in its series G round from its existing investors, including Lightbox and Lightrock. The funding round “mostly comprises equity funding and can have a small debt element”, according to reports.

G20 Delhi Declaration Sent A "Positive Signal": China In First Comments

G20 Delhi Declaration Sent A 'Positive Signal': China In First Comments

PM Modi exchanges greetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang during the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Beijing:

China finally broke its silence on the New Delhi G20 summit saying that the Declaration adopted by the member nations has sent a “positive signal” that the influential grouping is “working together” to tackle global challenges and promote world economic recovery.

India on Saturday pulled off a big diplomatic win after the G20 summit held under its presidency adopted a consensus declaration overcoming major differences on the Russia-Ukraine war, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for ending the “global trust deficit”.

In its first comment on the outcome of the two-day summit, which concluded Sunday, the Chinese foreign ministry spoke highly of its outcome.

“The summit adopted a leaders’ declaration, which reflects China’s proposition and states that the G20 would act in concrete ways through partnerships, sending a positive signal of the G20 working together to tackle global challenges and promote world economic recovery and global development,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.

Asked for her comment on the summit outcome, Mao said, “In the process of preparing for this New Delhi summit, China played a constructive role and always supported the summit in attaching importance to the concerns of developing countries and reaching fruitful outcomes in support of common development.” Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the summit, deputising for President Xi Jinping.

Asked whether China supports the absence of direct criticism of Russia in the G20 statement and whether softer language would help end the conflict in Ukraine, Mao said China’s stance on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear.

“The G20 leaders’ declaration is the result of consensus reached through consultation and reflects the common understanding of all members. The New Delhi Summit reaffirms that the G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, not a platform to resolve geopolitical and security issues.

“We always believe that the key to the final resolution of the Ukraine crisis lies in discarding the Cold War mentality, attaching importance to and respecting all sides’ legitimate security concerns, and seeking a political solution through dialogue and negotiation,” she said.

The spokesperson said China will remain committed to promoting peace talks and working together with the international community for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

Mao said China has always attached importance to and actively supported the work of the G20 and believes that it’s important for the grouping to stand in solidarity and cooperate to address various risks and challenges in the world economy and development.

“During his attendance at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, Premier Li Qiang elaborated on China’s views and propositions on G20 cooperation, calling on all parties to stick to the original aspiration of solidarity and cooperation, live up to the responsibility for peace and development as required by our times, and be partners in promoting the world economic recovery, open cooperation and global sustainable development,” she said.

The G20 member countries represent around 85 per cent of the global GDP, over 75 per cent of the global trade, and about two-thirds of the world population.

The grouping comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union. On Saturday, the African Union was admitted as G20’s permanent member.

Mamata on 11-day tour of Spain, Dubai from Tuesday

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she will attend business summits and hold meetings with several businessmen during her 11-day tour of Spain and Dubai to attract investments to the state.

Speaking to reporters at the state secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee said she will leave for Dubai on Tuesday morning, where she will spend the night due to the unavailability of connecting flights, before flying to Spain‘s capital Madrid the next day.

“We will stay in Madrid for three days, during which we will attend a business summit and meet non-resident Bengalis. From there, we will take a train to Barcelona, where we will participate in a two-day meeting for the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS),” she said.

She said this will be her first foreign tour in five years as the Centre “had not given her necessary permission earlier”.

“I am going (abroad) after five years. We did not get the necessary permission in the last five years. There are several invitations… I do not want to go to far-off places so that I can return quickly in case of any emergency,” she said.

Banerjee will be accompanied by Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi and senior office-bearers of renowned Kolkata football clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting.

She said former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly will join her team in Madrid.

“Spain was the theme country of this year’s International Kolkata Book Fair, and it also participated in our film festivals. They are good in (apparel) manufacturing. We hope they will participate in this year’s BGBS,” she said.

Banerjee said she and her team will return to Dubai, where one meeting on BGBS and some other meetings are scheduled.

“We will stay in Dubai for one-and-half days before returning to Kolkata on September 23,” she said.

On whether she will meet any office-bearer of any football club during her stay in Barcelona, which is known to be the home of several world-famous football clubs, Banerjee said, “Let there be some surprises. When I am going there, I want to do something for Bengal.” Sources in the state government said Banerjee may meet La Liga president Javier Tebas during her stay in Barcelona.

Banerjee urged the people of the state to take proper measures to diffuse any attempts to disrupt law and order during her absence and said that she has held meetings with senior officials and given necessary instructions to them.

India and the UK on Monday expressed their commitment to an early conclusion of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

New Delhi: India and the UK on Monday expressed their commitment to an early conclusion of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

Addressing a joint press conference with UK Chancellor of Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said both sides intend to expedite the free trade agreement.

“There is definitely some discussion on the FTA…the key on both the sides is to conclude it as soon as possible,” she said at the conclusion of the 12th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue.

Hunt appreciated the efforts being made for the direct listing of Indian companies on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

“We are particularly pleased to have made a big step forward with the first confirmation by India that it will explore the LSE as an international destination for the direct listing of Indian companies.

“Alongside that, there is a new Pensions and Insurance Partnership, the establishment of knowledge and expertise-sharing and the new UK Infrastructure Financing Bridge and a deepened partnership on the developmental GIFT City. So, we can really support each other’s plans to strengthen the relationship and the way the next step of this is a comprehensive FTA and Bilateral Investment Treaty,” Hunt said.

Sitharaman said emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and India’s new Digital Personal Data Protection Act offer ample opportunities for both nations to collaborate on frameworks for secure and inclusive financial intermediation.

“Success of the India-UK Green Growth Equity Fund is a testament to the efficacy of public-private partnerships in channelling large-scale sustainable finance,” she added.

Aryna Sabalenka stays positive and driven: Aims to end year as world no. 1

Achieving the status of world No. 1 is a tremendous leap and accomplishment. I take great pride in the years of relentless hard work that have ultimately propelled me to this position.

Aryna Sabalenka stays positive and driven: Aims to end year as world no. 1

New York: While Aryna Sabalenka didn’t secure her second Grand Slam title of the season, facing a defeat in a thrilling three-set match against Coco Gauff in the 2023 US Open final, she sees this experience as a valuable learning opportunity as she eyes finishing the year at World No.1.

Sabalenka arguably had the best season of any player this year on the WTA Tour this year; reaching at least the semifinals in all four majors, winning her first Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open, three singles titles overall (including her second victory at the 1000 event in Madrid, defeating No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the final), and, starting on Monday, becoming the new world No. 1 for the first time in her career.

“Becoming a world No. 1, it’s a huge improvement and achievement. I’m really proud of myself that all those years I have been working so hard helped me to become World No. 1. But for me, it’s more about the (year-end) world No. 1, not just like (becoming) world No. 1 and then next week you’re second.

“It’s good that I can say I have been world No. 1, but I really would like to finish the year as world No. 1. That’s why I’m still positive and I’m still motivated,” Sabalenka said in a post-match press conference.

The reigning Australian Open champion had a one-set lead in Saturday night’s final, but Gauff charged back to complete a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 comeback and thwart Sabalenka’s shot at going undefeated at this year’s hard-court majors.

“In the first set I was dealing with my emotions quite good,” Sabalenka said. “I was focused on myself, not on the crowd or the way [Gauff] moves. … Then the second set I started probably overthinking, and because of that I started kind of losing my power.”

The tables turned in that second set, where Gauff never dropped serve and drew more errors from Sabalenka than in the first set. Gauff was moving really well and defending really great, better than anybody else. So, I always had to play like an extra ball.”

“The unforced errors were a lot in the second set, and that’s where I get her (to) believe that she can win this match. I got over emotional after the second set,” she said about her final match against Gauff.

Despite the loss, Sabalenka will still rise to World No.1 in Monday’s updated singles rankings. The ascent to the top comes after Sabalenka’s career-best Grand Slam season. After three prior semifinal losses in majors, Sabalenka reached her first Grand Slam final at this year’s Australian Open, then won her first major title by beating Elena Rybakina in the final.
