Not India Or Pak, Gavaskar Picks This Team As His Favourite To Lift ODI WC

Cricket fans around the world are eagerly waiting to witness the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, which will kick-start from October 5. In the opening match, defending champions England will be squaring off against the first runners-up of the 2019 World Cup, New Zealand, in Ahmedabad. The host nation India will be taking on Australia in their campaign opener on October 8 in Chennai. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has chosen England as his favourites to win the upcoming World Cup.

Gavaskar stated that the Jos Buttler-led side has got a terrific bowling line-up and also consists of three “world-class all-rounders” who can change the game.

“The defending champions, England, because of the kind of talent that they have at, at the top of the order, the batting order, they’ve got two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the game with both bat and ball. They’ve also got a very good bowling line-up, an experienced bowling line-up, so at the moment in my book certainly,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

On the other hand, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan backed Team India and stated that the hosts are are “ticking all the boxes” and are one of the favorites to lift the coveted ICC trophy.

“I’m very excited to see how India performs and I really think they are one of the favorites, for sure because especially last couple of series, like Asia Cup, and the way India played against Australia as well in the home conditions. I think they are ticking all the boxes,” said Pathan.

“They have players who are performing really well but you have a guy like Mohammed Shami, who’s not in the part of playing 11 consistently, who’s a world-class bowler itself, so it shows the kind of team India has and at the same time the bench strength India has,” he added.

Ahead of the World Cup, Team India will play their first warm-up match against England on Saturday in Guwahati.

Sea Lion Swims Out Of Enclosure As Heavy Rain Floods Pool At New York Zoo

Sea Lion Swims Out Of Enclosure As Heavy Rain Floods Pool At New York Zoo

New York:

A sea lion swam outside its enclosure at a New York zoo on Friday as heavy rain flooded her pool. She explored the area outside before returning to its pool to the company of other sea lions, authorities said.

It did not escape the zoo and such claims are misleading, clarified the police and zoo authorities.

The Central Park Zoo reported the incident on a day a flash flood partially crippled the city’s subway network, airports and traffic movements.

“The water levels have receded, and the animals are contained in their exhibit,” said a statement by Jim Breheny, executive vice president of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)’s Zoos and Aquarium.

No staff or visitors were in danger and the sea lion remained inside the zoo, never breaching the zoo’s secondary perimeter, it said, adding that the WCS shut its four zoos and aquariums to focus on the animals during the storm.

The New York Police Department warned about “inaccurate” claims that animals had escaped the zoo amid flooding.

“There are several videos circulating online about flooding and escaped zoo animals. These videos are misleading and inaccurate. All sea lions and animals are accounted for and safe at the Central Park Zoo. The zoo remains closed due to the heavy rain and flooding,” it said on X (formerly Twitter).

Man charged over leaking Donald Trump’s tax returns

US federal prosecutors have charged a man for allegedly leaking the tax returns of a “high-ranking government official” who is understood to be former President Donald Trump

Man charged over leaking Donald Trump’s tax returns

Washington: US federal prosecutors have charged a man for allegedly leaking the tax returns of a “high-ranking government official” who is understood to be former President Donald Trump, media reports said.

The prosecutors on Friday charged Charles Edward Littlejohn, the 38-year-old man worked with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from 2018 to 2020, who allegedly stole ‘tax returns and return information associated with Public Official A’ and disclosed that information to a news organisation, CNN reported citing court documents. Although the official is not named in court documents, a source told CNN the tax returns in question were Trump’s.

In addition to the former President’s tax documents, Littlejohn is also accused of stealing IRS information on thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people, including returns and return information dating back more than 15 years, the documents said.

The accuse then sent that tax information to a second unnamed news organisation. “Both news organisations published numerous articles describing the tax information they obtained from the Defendant,” the court documents said without naming the outlets. The organisations have not been accused of any wrongdoing, CNN reported.

The New York Times and ProPublica both published articles based on tax records of the former President and other wealthy Americans around the same timeframe in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

While the New York Times has declined to comment about the claims, ProPublica told CBS News on Friday: “We have no comment on today’s announcement from the Department of Justice. As we’ve said previously, ProPublica doesn’t know the identity of the source who provided this trove of information on the taxes paid by the wealthiest Americans.”

Trump has also not commented on the development. A 2020 article in The New York Times, which is thought to have been based on the leaked information, claimed that the former President paid just $750 in federal income tax both in 2016, the year he ran for the US presidency, and in his first year in the White House, reports the BBC.

The newspaper also said that he paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years and that the records reveal “chronic losses and years of tax avoidance”.

"Zero Tolerance, Any Attempt…": Censor Board On Actor's Corruption Charge

'Zero Tolerance, Any Attempt To...': Censor Board On Actor's Corruption Charge

Actor Vishal on Friday posted a nearly four-minute long video on X.

New Delhi:

A day after Tamil actor Vishal publicly accused officials at the Indian film certification body, popularly called the ‘censor board’, of corruption, it has said that despite an online certification system in place and “regular updates on new system improvements” for the film producers and applicants, they still choose to apply through intermediaries or agents, defeating its purpose of eliminating third-party involvement in the certification process.

The Central Board of Film Certification, while assuring that it takes the allegations being reported “very seriously” and has zero tolerance for corruption, also said that any attempt to “malign the image of CBFC” will not be tolerated.

“With the implementation of aggressive digitization, complete process automation, and emphasis on minimal human intervention, the interference of intermediaries/agents has come down significantly however, the practice still exists in some regions which is defeating the purpose of transparency and smooth functioning of the certification process,” the CBFC said in an official statement, as reported by news agency ANI.

The film certification body further requested filmmakers to apply their films well in advance to meet their scheduled release.

“However, in extreme cases of urgency, the producers/filmmakers may approach the higher officials at CBFC along with a written request and reasonable grounds for an early examination which may be entertained on a merit basis,” the statement said.

Actor Vishal’s nearly four-minute long video addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, naming two individuals from the censor board with details of online bank transfers, triggered a swift response by the ruling BJP, with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry rushing a senior officer to Mumbai to “conduct an inquiry today itself”.

The ministry’s Friday afternoon post on X came less than 24 hours after Vishal said he paid Rs 6.5 lakhs for the censor board to certify the Hindi version of his new film, ‘Mark Antony’, which released across northern Indian states last week.

"Doors Not Closed, Need Something To Look At": India On Canada's Charges

'Doors Not Closed, Need Something To Look At': India On Canada's Charges

Mr Jaishankar spoke of a “permissive Canadian attitude” towards terrorists and extremists.

New Delhi:

In another attack on Canada, which was dubbed a safe haven for terrorists by the Centre last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that the country harbours extremist elements and that India has conveyed its concerns in this regard to the United States.

The comments come amid the simmering row between India and Canada, which was sparked when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had claimed last week that “Indian government agents” were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June.

The minister made the comments in response to a question during a discussion at a think tank, Hudson Institute, in Washington, DC, on Friday.

“The Canadian Prime Minister made some allegations, initially privately and then publicly, and our response to him, both in private and public, was that what he was alleging was not consistent with our policy. And that if he or his government had anything relevant and specific that they would like us to look into, we were open to looking at it. That’s where that conversation is at this point of time,” he said.

Terrorists Given Operating Space

Ramping up his attack on the Canadian government, the minister said, “Then it became dormant but, in the last few years, it has come back into play because of what we consider to be a very permissive Canadian attitude towards terrorists, extremists, people who openly advocate violence. And they have been given operating space in Canada because of the compulsions of Canadian politics.”

“For Americans, perhaps, Canada looks very different but it depends where the shoe pinches. For us it has certainly been a country where organised crime from India mixed with trafficking in people, mixed with secessionism, violence, terrorism – it’s a very toxic combination of issues and people who have found operating space there. So, a lot of our tensions with Canada, which well preceded what Mr Trudeau said, actually come out of that,” he added.

‘Diplomats Unsafe’

Mr Jaishankar said the situation today is that Indian diplomats are unsafe going to the embassy and consulates in Canada and that they are publicly intimidated, which compelled India to suspend visa services in the country.

The minister confirmed that he had spoken about these issues with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

Pressed for details of the meetings, Mr Jaishankar said, “Let’s put it this way, they, obviously shared US views and assessments on this whole situation and I explained to them, at some length, the concerns which I had. Hopefully, we both came out of those meetings better informed.”

Trudeau’s Pitch

Speaking in Montreal on Thursday, Justin Trudeau said that Canada is still committed to building closer ties with India.

“India is a growing economic power and important geopolitical player. And as we presented with our Indo-Pacific strategy, just last year, we’re very serious about building closer ties with India,” Canada-based National Post quoted him as saying.

“At the same time, obviously, as a rule of law country, we need to emphasise that India needs to work with Canada to ensure that we get the full facts of this (the Nijjar killing) matter,” National Post quoted Trudeau as saying.

Nijjar was the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force and was killed in Surrey in the Canadian province of British Columbia on June 18.

Musk to sue ADL for defamation

The billionaire owner of the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk, is suing Israel lobby group and spy outfit, The Anti Defamation League. Musk claims that the ADL has been lobbying companies to drop their advertising deals with X, alleging that Musk is an anti Semite.

According to Musk this treacherous campaign has led to a significant drop in advertising revenue for the company.

In an entertaining turn of events, a live conversation about the issue on the X website was disrupted by Vivian Bercovici, a former Canadian Ambassador to Israel.

Bercovici was supporting the ADL viewpoints when she was asked by a participant if she worked with the Israeli spy firm Black Cube. Following this exposure, she quit the space and deactivated her account.

Long before it targeted a billionaire military contractor like musk, the ADL had been spying on and smearing all manner of leftist organizations.

It was previously revealed that the ADL actually collected confidential information on around 10,000 political activists and spied on over 700 organizations across several cities in the United States.

Individuals the ADL spied on included Dr. Martin Luther King and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The ADL was also found to have sold information on anti apartheid activists to the BOSS agency of the apartheid regime.

It is also well known that the ADL supplied the Israeli external intelligence agency Mossad with information gathered on Arab student groups in the United States. Interestingly, an FBI internal memo in 1969 raised concerns that the ADL was violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by spying for Israel.

The FBI has, little by little, become more integrated with the ADL over the years. The ADL is the largest nongovernmental trainer of US law enforcement with every single FBI agents going through ADL training.

The ADL has also employed the former FBI chief of the domestic terrorism operations section, Gregory Ehrie, as vice president for law enforcement and analysis. Ehrie spent a year living on a settlements in al Quds, occupied Palestine, learning Arabic for the FBI.

So while military contractor Musk goes head to head with the Israel lobby group, the anti Defamation League, it is important to remember not to interrupt when your enemies quarrel.

Elon Musk’s curious connections with Israel and its apologists

Elon Musk has a complex but generally positive relationship with Israel and its lobby groups. In order to purchase Twitter Musk borrowed a billion dollars from the largest recorded donor to the Israeli military, Larry Ellison.

Ellison is so close to Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, that he offered him the directorship of his tech company, Oracle.

Elon Musk’s X will also collaborate with AU10TIX, an Israeli firm created by ex Israeli intelligence officers.

AU10TIX will handle the new ID verification, which requires users to submit official ID documents and selfies.

AU10TIX is a branch of the Dutch security firm ICTS International, which was founded by former members of the Shin Bet intelligence agency.

Musk and his Starlink satellites were also involved in a failed regime change campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

When the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, mentioned the importance of the US government assisting writers in Iran, Musk directly tweeted back with the words ‘activating Starlink’.

Musk later boasted of contributing 100 active Starlinks in Iran to ease the communication of regime change writers.

Musk is also collaborating with Israel against the Resistance Axis. Musk’s company Space X recently launched spy satellites for an Israeli intelligence firm named ImageSat International to identify targets for airstrikes in Syria.

Noam Segal the company CEO is a current reserve in the Israeli Air Force. Musk’s collaborator, ImageSat International, has been essential to Israel’s over one thousand airstrikes on the Syrian Arab Republic over the past half decade.

Both ImageSat International and the Israeli embassy in the US went as far as publicly thanking Elon Musk on Twitter for the launch of their spy satellite over Syria.

It would appear that Musk is certainly not an enemy of Israel.
