Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has introduced special buses for the convenience of the devotees from the city visiting Swarnagiri temple in Yadadri-Bhongir.

These electric non-AC Metro Express buses will run on the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) – Swarnagiri route and travel through Tarnaka, Uppal ‘x’ Road, Medipally, Ghatkesar, AIIMS, Bibinagar, Renuka Yellamma and Swarnagiri.

RTC officials said the average ticket fare per person will be Rs 100. From Uppal to Swarnagiri temple, the ticket fare would cost Rs 80. The first bus will depart from JBS at 7 am, with the last bus leaving at 3.30 pm.

Hyderabad: The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, a major initiative aimed at enhancing irrigation facilities in the three districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad by lifting Godavari water, has drawn a blank so far.

Even after spending over Rs.7,700 crore, not a drop of water could be given to the proposed ayacut so far. The State government has added an additional component to the project by linking it with the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) Left Canal. This linkage facility, which would cost Rs.100 crore is intended to provide water to an ayacut of 1.6 lakh acres under the Wyra project in Khammam district. The ongoing works on the link canals of the project are yet to gain momentum.

They were expected to be completed by now, but in some stretches, the works were progressing on a tardy pace. The process for land acquisition is yet to gather pace, as it is linked to payment of dues to the land oustees. The completion of works on the four pump houses and canal system would facilitate the much-awaited release of water to a new ayacut. The lift irrigation scheme has in all four pump houses. Only two of the six pumps, each one of 25 MW capacity, were ready and one of them completed the trial run successfully on Thursday.

The Sitarama project, which was being implemented at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore, has a long way to go for completion. The works on the project have witnessed no major headway, for want of resource support. Of late, the project has lacked the special priority accorded to it by the previous BRS regime.

The project implementation has faced several hurdles. The Benefit-Cost Ratio was one of them. The irrigation authorities have established that the BCR stands at 1.60 and the benefits of the project would outweigh the costs. Financial Internal Rate of Return (IRR) was also projected to be 18.47 per cent. Now that the project has overcome major feasibility hurdles, its final clearances have to be rushed through.

Heavy persistent rains lash Hyderabad

Hyderabad: After days of anticipation, Hyderabad has finally witnessed significant rainfall, accompanied by intense thunder and lightning strikes across the city on Thursday. The downpour led to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions in many areas.

According to data from the Telangana Development and Planning Society by 5 pm, several parts of the city including Bandlaguda, Shaikpet, Khairatabad, Marredpally, and Secunderabad experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. Bandlaguda recorded a significant rainfall of 18.5 mm.

The city also witnessed a notable drop in temperatures, with the maximum recorded temperature around 33 degree Celsius.

According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department, generally cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers, accompanied by strong surface winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, likely to occur at isolated places on Friday.

Other districts of Telangana, including Karimnagar, Vikarabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Adilabad, Sangareddy, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri, also reported heavy rainfall. Notably, Manakondur in Karimnagar recorded a substantial rainfall of 51.3 mm.

Looking ahead to Friday, the weather forecast suggests strong surface winds continuing at isolated places in various districts including Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagitial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajigiri, and Hyderabad.

KCR vows to continue fight for Telangana’s development


Hyderabad: Brushing aside recent electoral setbacks, BRS president and Leader of Opposition K Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday reaffirmed his commitment to Telangana’s development and emphasised the need for continued vigilance and activism under the Congress rule to ensure the State’s progress.

“We have a history of sacrificing many positions for achieving the goal of Telangana Statehood. The post of the Chief Minister is not a big deal for me compared to the achievement of Telangana itself,” he said, while addressing hundreds of supporters at his Erravelli residence.

Chandrashekhar Rao reminisced about the strides made in providing essential facilities such as irrigation, drinking water, and electricity supply, which led to the remarkable progress of Telangana under his leadership within the past decade. However, he expressed concerns about the current state of Telangana under Congress rule.

The BRS chief criticised the Congress for making deceptive electoral promises and failing to fulfill them. He pointed out that numerous initiatives by the previous BRS government including Kalyana Lakshmi, KCR Kits, Rythu Bandhu and even cheques from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund among others, have been discontinued. He stressed that the people were realising the impact of the failed promises of the Congress.

“People are worried that many schemes initiated by the previous BRS government are not available to them,” he stated, reassuring his supporters that the BRS would continue its long journey for Telangana’s betterment.

Chandrashekhar Rao also called on BRS activists to remain patient and persistent in addressing public issues, stating that the people would eventually see through the Congress’s deceit. He emphasised the importance of staying connected with the people to rebuild trust and support for the BRS. “Our long journey of 25 years for Telangana has not stopped. The day will soon come when we will be seated in the Assembly with twice as much support from people,” he declared, evoking cheers from the crowd.

He criticised the deteriorating governance of the Congress, asserting that their initial promises had fallen flat. He emphasised that the strength of the BRS was in its dedicated workers, who would emerge as future leaders. “Leaders might leave, but the party can create more,” he declared, urging his supporters to focus on public service.

On the occasion, the former Chief Minister announced plans to hold a series of meetings with party leaders and activists from various Assembly constituencies to strategise and mobilise support. He reiterated that the BRS would fight to protect Telangana’s interests and ensure that the State’s progress was not derailed.

Former Minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashant Reddy, Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, former MLA T Jeevan Reddy and other leaders participated in the meeting.

Hyderabad: The BJP legislator from Goshamahal, Thakur Raja Singh, criticized the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy for the rise in the crime incidents in the city.

Taking to social media, the BJP legislator, said the government and in particular the Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy were playing into hands of All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen party (AIMIM) and obeying Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi.

“Due to undue influence of AIMIM MLAs and leaders in the policing, the law-and-order situation is deteriorating. The AIMIM is not allowing the police to work freely due to which murders are taking place in the old city,” said Raja Singh.

He said the Chief Minister should focus on controlling the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. “Daylight robberies are taking place in the city,” he said, citing the case of an attempt to loot a jewelry shop at Kompally. Raja Singh, also mentioned about big property offences in the city in the last couple of weeks in his video. “Revanth Reddy, should not be afraid of anyone. He has a police department and he should instruct them to work fearlessly,” he said.

Hyderabad: Teaching staff recruitment in the State universities has hit a roadblock with the fate of Telangana Universities Common Recruitment Board Bill 2022 hanging in balance.

The Bill referred by the then Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to President for ‘Consideration and Approval’ last year is yet to receive either assent or rejection.

The Congress government, which initially planned to withdraw the bill, is yet to take call on the same. “The bill has been forwarded to the President and is still there. For the bill to be withdrawn, the State cabinet has to take a decision,” said a senior High Education department official.

Presently, each university takes up its own recruitment that on several occasions in the past got into legal tangles, delaying filling up of vacancies. To bring transparency and accountability, the previous BRS government had passed Telangana State Common Recruitment Board Bill 2022 for centralized staff recruitment.

The bill was sent to the Raj Bhavan for assent but after seeking clarifications from the then Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Tamilisai Soundararajan forwarded the bill to the President citing certain issues.

Failing to take a decision on the bill has further delayed the teachers’ recruitment in the universities, which are already grappling with dearth of faculty members particularly at professor level. This shortage of teachers is not just impacting regular teaching work but research and funding from various central funding agencies.

Out of 2,825 teaching posts sanctioned in 11 universities, there are close to 2,000 vacancies. While there are a total of 1,267 sanctioned posts in 53 departments of Osmania University, close to 900 teaching staff positions are vacant.

Several departments have been running classes with regular associate and assistant professors besides contractual staff, while some departments like Archaeology, French and German run only by the academic consultants, who are employed on contractual basis.

Similar is the predicament with Kakatiya University, where only 86 teachers are working against a sanctioned strength of 409 faculty members in 27 departments. The delay in recruitment, according to teachers, has increased the academic load on the existing staff.

Cyberabad cops nab Mangalore resident for defrauding 50 people


Hyderabad: A resident of Mangalore in Karnataka was arrested by the Cyberabad police for duping over 50 people on the pretext of profits on investments in crypto trading.

Kunjathbail Mujib Sayyad collected money from different persons in Shadnagar, Ranga Reddy district and Hyderabad on the pretext of investment in ‘Max Crypto Trading’ investment scheme. Believing him, around 52 persons made investments.

“Sayyad assured that the investors would get three times returns on their investment amount within a short period i.e. 150 days. Also, he offered 2 per cent commission in the event of enrolling a new customer, if someone introduced and joined two customers in the scheme, he paid them 5 per cent commission,” said DCP (Economic Offences Wing), K Prasad.

Sayyad collected around Rs 1.66 crore amount from 52 victims and duped them later.

Initially, following a complaint the Shadnagar police registered a case and later it was transferred to the Economic Offences Wing of Cyberabad police who arrested Sayyad.

Telangana: School textbooks found in scrap shop in Nagarkurnool

Nagarkurnool: Several bundles of school textbooks that were meant to be distributed among students surfaced in a scrap shop in Achampet in the district, leaving parents and the education department shocked.

The books pertaining to Classes 6 to 10 from last academic year were found in the scrap shop near a lake in Achampet. The English medium book bundles remained intact.

Soon after detecting the books in the shop, a few parents alerted the police. About 45 bundles of books were shifted to the police station. An official from the District Tribal Development Office allegedly supplied the books to the scrap shop owner, according to reports.

After conducting an inquiry, DTDO Kamalakar Reddy suspended two workers involved in the supply of books to the shop and a show cause notice was served to godown incharge Tirupataiah, according to reports.

Hyderabad: The NRV valve of the second pump in the Kondapur pump house has been repaired and the water supply has been restored, informed HMWS&SB in a press statement on Thursday.

While the water board earlier announced a disruption of supply for two days, the valve that came under unexpected repair was fixed within a day’s time. As a result, water supply was restored for areas under the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme Phase-II including Mir Alam, Balapur, Bholakpur, Chilkalguda, Prakash Nagar, Patigadda, Vanasthalipuram, Autonagar, and others.

Kothagudem: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu told the district officials to see that there should be no loss of life due to floods in river Godavari. He along with district in-charge Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao held a review meeting on the preparedness and relief measures in the case of floods in the river, here on Thursday.

Initially district Collector Jithesh V Patil briefed the ministers on the precautionary measures being taken by the district administration involving all government departments to deal with the flood situation. Bhatti Vikramarka said that as all the officials in the district were aware of the floods there should be an effective action plan to handle the situation; to provide better facilities and services to the people in flood prone areas.

The officials should complete all the arrangements and ensure availability of adequate boats to deal with the floods.
