The rise of infections in the last week or so could be a clear indication of an unknown infection of viral origin, which is circulating among the community in Hyderabad, they point out.

Hyderabad:A significant flare-up of infections related to seasonal flu, influenza, viral infections is being reported by doctors, immunologists and public health specialists in Hyderabad.
The rise of infections in the last week or so could be a clear indication of an unknown infection of viral origin, which is circulating among the community in Hyderabad, they point out.
There is a fear among caregivers that the present rise of viral infections in Hyderabad could end-up being a precursor for a significant wave of upper respiratory infections like severe pneumonia, wherein lungs get infected, in the coming days.
An outbreak of influenza should not surprise anyone because last year (March, 2023) Hyderabad had witnessed a significant surge of infections among people due to influenza A (H1N1) and another subtype A (H3N2) cases, which were later confirmed by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) surveillance data.
Typically, these days, hospitals in Hyderabad are receiving patients with symptoms of seasonal flu and within days, in some patients, the infection is spreading to upper respiratory tract and even to the lower respiratory tract, thus infecting lungs.
There is a trend of rise in consumption and prescribing of anti-viral drug Oseltamivir, which is retailed under the brand name Tamiflu, for treatment of patients in Hyderabad. The administration of Oseltamivir(Tamiflu) is an indication that some flu positive patients, probably those with comorbid conditions, are facing severe symptoms, doctors here pointed out.
“We are witnessing extreme flare-ups of infections in the last ten days in Hyderabad. Due to immunological changes among a large section of population during the Covid pandemic, even a simple flu is now getting intensified into upper and lower respiratory tract infections among individuals. I am hoping that this sudden rise in infections does not lead to a major surge of pneumonia or viral infections,” says senior immunologist from Hyderabad, Dr VyakaranamNageshwar.
Senior doctors at the nodal government-health care facility for seasonal ailments, Fever Hospital, Nallakunta, however, have said that they are yet to witness a major rise in viral infections.
“At present, we are witnessing a few cases of seasonal flu, which is normal because of weather changes, and a few sporadic cases of dengue. So far, we have not been able to witness any kind of trend that indicates major flare-up pneumonia-like cases. For an average person on the street, it is always better to keep taking precautions by leading a healthy and active life,” says Superintendent, Fever Hospitals, Dr K Shankar.
Doctors point out that inclement weather conditions are ideal for causing viral and bacterial infections and taking precautions is the best foot forward.

Kothagudem: In yet another incident of government teachers attending duty under the influence of alcohol, Kalva Sudhakar working at the Mandal Parishad Primary School at Yellandulapadu of Yellandu mandal in the district was allegedly found to be attending duties in a drunken state.
He was also accused of addressing the students in a vulgar language under the influence of alcohol. The students reported the teacher’s misconduct to their parents, who locked him up in a classroom and informed higher officials. Following this, the school complex headmistress Yadamma visited the school to conduct an enquiry. The parents and students explained the misbehaviour of the teacher and submitted a written complaint to Yadamma, who assured the villagers to take the matter to higher officials and freed the teacher from the classroom.
It might be noted that on June 21, a teacher Pathipati Veeraiah working at Mandal Parishad Primary School at Rajiv Nagar of Timmapet gram panchayat in Mulakalapalli mandal attended duties in an inebriated condition and was confined in a cattle shed by the locals. On June 22, a teacher Phani Bhasker, working at Government Primary School Nehru Basthi in Kothagudem town was suspended for being absent during working hours. The next day he was summoned for an enquiry by officials and he appeared before them after consuming alcohol.
A few days ago at Nemalipeta of Aswaraopet mandal, a government teacher, Ramdas was beaten up by the locals when he was found with a married woman in a drunken state. On March 27 at GP Palli village of Cherla mandal, a government school headmaster, Banoth Krishna, was locked in the school for attending duties in an inebriated condition and beating students.
Parents and student organisations are alleging that lack of supervision by Education department officials in the district was leading to such irresponsible behaviour of government teachers.

Mahabubabad: Tension prevailed for a while at the Narasimulupeta mandal Tahsildar office here on Thursday after a 55-year-old farmer climbed a tree holding a bottle of poison and threatened to die by suicide.
Bhukya Balu, son of Laxma, owned two acres of land, which he got from his ancestors. He was cultivating the land since then. However, he said there were some wrong entries in the records and he was roaming around the Tahsildar office for a correction in the records. From the two acres, a portion of land was recorded on the name of his cousin, whose name was also Bhukya Balu, son of Amaru. Following this, the second Bhukya Balu sold about 28 guntas of land to one Devilal recently to perform his daughter’s marriage. A deal was made and payment of a partial amount was pending by Devilal, who insisted that payment would be made after the patta was generated on his name. Balu then applied for a transfer and a surveyor arrived at the land for conducting the survey.
Upon learning that his cousin had sold a portion of his land, the original owner Bhukya Balu reached the Tahsildar office and climbed up a tree holding the poison bottle. He threatened to die by suicide if the correction was not made and his land was returned to him. Tension prevailed for nearly 30 minutes at the office. After Tahsildar Nagaraju assured that a thorough survey would be conducted in the presence of the police and promised to deliver justice, Balu got down from the tree, according to reports.

CM Revanth Reddy, who is also the TPCC president, admitted that there was a lack of coordination and that the PCC did not take the necessary steps which had led to the situation where MLC T Jeevan Reddy had threatened to resign from his post.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TPCC president A Revanth Reddy, following an uproar within the party over the induction of Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar into the party, on Thursday admitted that there was a lack of coordination and that the PCC did not take the necessary steps, which had led to the situation where MLC T Jeevan Reddy had threatened to resign from his post.
The Chief Minister admitted to this folly on part of the PCC, which he heads, while replying to queries on the issues that cropped up within the party after the induction of BRS MLAs Sanjay Kumar and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, with him personally said to have engineered both the defections.
“There was lack of coordination from our end and the PCC did not take the necessary measures, leading to a chaotic situation,” he admitted, at the same time, stating that the party would utilise the experience and services of Jeevan Reddy.
Meanwhile, Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy appeared to have mellowed down after meeting the party high command and Revanth Reddy in New Delhi on Thursday. Objecting the entry of the BRS MLA into the party, the Congress MLC had said that he was humiliated that the decision in his constituency was taken without consulting or informing him. Though IT Minister D Sridhar Babu and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka appealed to the MLC to reconsider his decision, he had stood firm.
After being summoned by the high command to Delhi on Wednesday, Jeevan Reddy met AICC Telangana incharge Deepadas Munshi and Revanth Reddy, after which he calmed down. Though there were rumours that he might be inducted into the State cabinet, the Chief Minister indirectly denied this, and at the same time, also brushed aside speculations about a Cabinet expansion.
“Due to false reports in a section of media, people are in confusion. I am the Education Minister and not a part time Minister. There is no portfolio vacant and there are Ministers for all portfolios,” Revanth Reddy said, also stating that all exams were conducted smoothly and efficiently by the Education department.
