Two shepherds drowned in a tank in Dharmaram village of Rajanna-Sircilla district while trying to rescue sheep that had entered deep water. Police retrieved the bodies after a search operation and registered a case for investigation

Two shepherds drown in tank in Sircilla

Rajanna-Sircilla: Two shepherds drowned in a tank in Dharmaram of Konaraopet mandal on Sunday. According to local people, the shepherds Muduke Laxmirajam (58) and Kummam Mondaiah (50) had taken sheep to the outskirts of the village for grazing.

While drinking water, three sheep entered deeper into the tank. In an attempt to rescue the sheep, Laxmirajam and Mondaiah got down into the water and drowned. As the shepherds did not return home by afternoon, family members searched for them and were shocked to find only the sheep near the tank.


Panicked over the whereabouts of their family members, they alerted the police. The police launched a search operation by deploying professional swimmers. The bodies of the two shepherds were retrieved from the tank. Police began an investigation by registering a case. The bodies were shifted to a hospital for postmortem.
