Police deployed as kin refuse bodies of Shabad murder victims

Hyderabad: Tension escalated on Saturday evening in connection with the Shabad murder case after family members refused to receive three bodies brought back from the hospital following a post-mortem examination.

The bodies of the minor girl, her mother Lakshmi and grandmother Rukkamma were brought to their residence in an ambulance under heavy police security. However, relatives declined to allow the bodies to be taken out of the vehicle, leading to a heated argument with police personnel.

The family alleged that the authorities had shown disrespect by transporting the bodies in a municipal tractor earlier in the day. They also alleged that the village sarpanch had hurriedly shifted the bodies in the morning without completing the inquest proceedings. The relatives insisted that they would not allow the bodies to be removed from the ambulance until the sarpanch arrived and explained the circumstances.

A large contingent of police personnel was deployed to ensure that the funeral procession and last rites were conducted peacefully and to prevent any untoward incident. The funerals were expected to be conducted at night or in the early hours of Sunday.
