The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has fired rockets at an Israeli military base following airstrikes by the regime on eastern Lebanon.

“In response to the Zionist aggression near the city of Baalbek,” Hezbollah said on Monday, the resistance forces targeted the base in the occupied Golan Heights “with 60 Katyusha rockets.”

The Israeli military confirmed that dozens of rockets were launched from Lebanon on Monday afternoon.

Footage by Lebanese media outlets showed a plume of smoke rising from the vicinity of the Aadous plain in Buday, west of the city of Baalbek.

Hezbollah later announced two of its fighters had been killed by Israeli fire.

The Israeli military had said the strikes near Baalbek targeted Hezbollah air defense systems in response to the group downing one of its drones in south Lebanon earlier in the day.

During the funeral procession of one of the resistance fighters, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah said, “This Zionist encroachment will not push us to retreat, it will rather increase our determination.” The remarks were televised.

Vice President of the Executive Council of Hezbollah Sheikh Ali Damoush said on Sunday that it would be the “height of folly” for the regime to wage a full-scale offensive against Lebanon as fighters from the resistance group are fully prepared for combat.

He underlined that Hezbollah is determined to continue fighting in southern Lebanon and respond proportionately to Israeli attacks on civilians.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006. The resistance forced the regime to retreat in both conflicts.
