India registered a massive 434-run victory over England in the third Test of the five-match series on Sunday. This was India’s biggest win in Test cricket in terms of runs. The hosts posted a whopping target of 557 runs on Day 4 before bundling out England for 122. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the main architect of India’s victory as he smashed his consecutive double century and propelled India to a huge total. Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 214 off 236 balls, which included 14 boundaries and 12 sixes.
The 22-year-old batter has been receiving numerous praises from all over the world for his magnificent knock. However, skipper Rohit Sharma refrained himself for praising him.
“I’ve spoken a lot about him. I’m sure people outside the changing room have also been talking about him. I want to be calm about him, not talk a lot about him. He’s started his career on a high,” said Rohit during the post-match press conference.
The Indian team consisted of debutants like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, who impressed everyone with their brilliant performance.
“Obviously it’s a very good feeling to win a game like that and especially with such a young team as well. (We had) two debutants (Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel) and not a lot of Test matches amongst the playing eleven as well. A lot of these guys are learning from the experience that they’re having in the middle. We got to learn a lot about how we played in Hyderabad and then in Vizag when we won,” said Rohit.
Rohit said India have had to work really hard given the circumstances (injuries to senior players).
“We knew it’s not going to be an easy one for us to just come out here and win the series. We have (had) to work really, really hard, especially with a lot of our front line players missing as well,” Rohit said.
“A lot of credit to these young boys who have come in and showed a lot of character. Looks like they actually belong here and they want to stay here as well,” he added.
