Protesters gathered in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, for a sit-in on Wednesday, adding to this week’s demonstrations against election results.

Workers and supporters of different political parties blocked all main highways linking Balochistan with other provinces in protest over what they say was vote rigging.

Several members of Baloch, Pashtun, and Hazara nationalist parties of the province protested in front of the office of the District Returning Officer.

On Tuesday, shops and public transport services in Quetta came to a standstill as local political parties called for a city shutdown.

Pakistan voted in national and provincial elections on February 8, but the polls were marred by accusations of rigging to defeat independent candidates backed by jailed ex-prime minister Imran Khan.

The caretaker government and Pakistan’s election commission have rejected the allegations and said the country has laws and systems to investigate specific complaints.
