Safari made the comments in a meeting with a visiting Serbian delegation headed by Acting Assistant Minister for Economic Diplomacy Jagoda Lazarevic on Tuesday.
In the meeting, the Iranian diplomat described the level of diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries as favorable and satisfactory, saying that the exchanges of visits of Iranian and Serbian officials clearly show the high level of political relations.
Safari also expressed his satisfaction with the increase in the volume of trade between the two countries over the past year, emphasizing the need to accelerate that process and called the holding of the 16th Joint Economic Commission between the two countries in the near future as one of the important steps to achieve that goal.
He also stressed the necessity of concluding a free trade agreement between Iran and Serbia with the aim of facilitating trade between the two countries.
Expressing gratitude for the hospitality of her Iranian counterpart, Lazarevic considered Iran as an important country in Serbia’s foreign policy strategies.
She added that although significant steps have been taken to improve relations between Iran and Serbia, there is other potential for cooperation between the two countries.
The Serbian diplomat further expressed hope that holding the 16th Joint Economic Commission between the two countries as well as concluding a free trade agreement will open a new chapter in the economic and commercial cooperation between Iran and Serbia.
