Yemenis remain resolute as US, UK conduct new airstrikes

The video grab taken in January shows flames rising from a location in Yemen after it was targeted in airstrikes by US and UK warplanes.

The United States and Britain have once again carried out joint airstrikes on Yemen as the country says it is fully prepared to fight off a potential ground invasion by the outsiders.

The airstrikes targeted areas in Tuhayta district of the western province of Hudaydah on Tuesday.

There was no information immediately available on the potential scale of damage or the number of casualties.

The Tuesday strikes came after US and UK warplanes targeted at least 10 locations in areas controlled by Yemen’s Ansarullah movement on Thursday and Friday.

Outsiders are bombarding Yemen’s territory because the Yemeni armed forces have been attacking ships either owned by Israel or linked to the regime in the Red Sea over the past several weeks.

Yemenis conduct the maritime attacks in a solid display of support for the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Israel has killed more than 28,000 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza since early October.

Yemenis say unless the regime ends the bloody hostilities, the maritime attacks will continue. On Monday, a US bulk carrier identified as Star Iris was attacked by the Yemeni naval forces in the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, a senior member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council said on Tuesday that Yemen is prepared for a potential ground invasion by the US and British militaries.

Mohammad Ali al-Houthi said such a ground invasion would be much more difficult than similar operations conducted in the past by US-led forces in Afghanistan and Vietnam. Houthi said Yemen “has no worries” about such a scenario and that this would exactly be what the Yemenis have been waiting for.
