Millions of Iranians have poured into the streets across the country to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late charismatic leader Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini.

On Sunday, people took part in mass rallies in the capital Tehran and other cities and towns to renew their allegiance to the Islamic establishment.

They chanted slogans in support of the Islamic Republic and waved the Iranian national flags.

The event was covered by more than 7,300 Iranian and foreign media personnel.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi addressed the crowd at Tehran’s Azadi Square.

On the eve of the event, fireworks displays were performed in Tehran and other cities at 9:00 p.m. overnight, as people chanted Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest) in an expression of solidarity with the Islamic Revolution.

The 22nd of the solar calendar month of Bahman, which corresponds with February 11, is observed each year with tremendous patriotic fervor across Iran.

On this day, forty-five years ago, the US-backed Pahlavi regime was overthrown in a popular uprising that also ended the meddling of foreign hegemonic powers in Iran’s internal affairs.
