Warnings mount over Israeli regime operation in Rafah

Warnings mount over Israeli regime operation in Rafah

The EU’s top diplomat warned an Israeli military operation in Rafah would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe. His statement came after Israel’s military was ordered by the warmongering prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prepare for the new aggression.

“Resuming negotiations to free hostages and suspend hostilities is the only way to avert a bloodshed,” Borrell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, according to DW English website.

UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said “over half of Gaza’s population are sheltering in the area”, while Dutch FM Hanke Bruins Slot said there could be “many civilian casualties”, the Western media reported.

Yesterday, Saudi Arabia also warned of “very serious repercussions” if Rafah was stormed.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has warned that Any military operation in Rafah will lead to a bloodbath.

Moreover, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned against any Israeli military invasion of Gaza’s southern Rafah city. “The need in Rafah is already unbelievable – 1.3 million people are seeking protection from the fighting in a very small space. An offensive by the Israeli army on Rafah would be a humanitarian catastrophe. The people of Gaza cannot disappear into thin air,” she said.

According to Al Jazeera, there is no indication that pressure from the international community is going to have any sway on Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans for the invasion of Rafah.

According to reports within Israeli media, Netanyahu has said to his war cabinet that he believes due to the international pressure, they’ll have around one month to wrap up that operation. So that means the start, the middle, and the end, and he says before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which is set to begin on March 10.

So the army chief of staff has said that they are ready to operate in Rafah, but they’re waiting for an answer from the government on how to evacuate 1.4 million Palestinians. Remember, there is simply no place for them to go. They have not been able to go back to northern Gaza. They have been displaced multiple times, forced to flee throughout the entirety of these four months.
