Iran’s embassy in Baku has extended its sincere congratulations to Ilham Aliyev on his re-election as Azerbaijan’s president.
In a post on its X account on Wednesday, the embassy expressed confidence that a new page will open in the relations between the two brotherly Muslim countries in the coming period.
Aliyev was re-elected as Azerbaijan’s president on Wednesday for a fifth consecutive term, with over 92% of the vote, after nearly all electoral precincts declared results, according to official results.
Mazahir Panahov, head of the Central Election Commission, said Aliyev got 92.1% of the vote from 54.47% of ballots counted.
Aliyev’s closest competitor and independent candidate Zahid Oruj received 2.2%.
About 6.5 million people were eligible to vote, including those abroad.
