Iran’s Ambassador to Doha Ali Salehabadi says the cancelation of entry visas for Qatari tourists came into force as of Sunday.

He said on Sunday that Iran’s recent move to unilaterally cancel visas for Qatari citizens is an important step towards developing cooperation, particularly in tourism.

The diplomat said Iran and Qatar have numerous commonalities and economic bonds and further expansion of cooperation would secure the national interests of the two countries.

During Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi’s visit to Doha in February, Iran and Qatar inked 14 major economic cooperation agreements, including a deal on cancelling visa requirements for passengers travelling between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary, and Iranian Expatriates Affairs Alireza Bigdeli said on Wednesday that Iran would start canceling the visa requirement for tourists from 28 countries.

He added that citizens of 28 countries will no longer need visas to travel to Iran from February 4. Instead, they will be able to simply purchase a ticket to visit the country.
