Amid concerns over his recent dip in form, Dewald Brevis was back to his absolute best in the SA20 league on Thursday. Brevis smashed a blistering half-century for MI Cape Town during their clash with Pretoria Capitals in Centurion. He hit an unbeaten 66 off 32 that propelled MI Cape Town to a mammoth 248/4. He brought up his half-century in 27 balls with a stunning no look six off Daryn Dupavillon in the 19th over. He kept his eyes on the pitch throughout the stroke, hammering it over midwicket for a six. The video has gone viral on social media.

“This has been an interesting time. Grateful to contribute to the team and to have a great score,” Brevis said.

“Really enjoyed being out there. I love it here. I back us all the way and we will give it our all.”

MI Cape Town captain Kieron Pollard was consistently motivating Brevis throughout his innings and there was even a special moment when the youngster reached his half-century with the big West Indian prompting him to acknowledge the crowd.

“It was unbelievable (batting with Pollard),” Brevis said.

“He told me to wait after a slower ball and I took one and gave the strike to him. That gave us the momentum.”

Coming back to the match, South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne rewrote the SA20 records books with the highest ever score in the tournament.

Verreynne smashed an unbeaten 116 off jusst 52 balls but it was not enough to prevent the Pretoria Capitals from falling to a 34-run defeat to MI Cape Town at Centurion.

He broke Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis‘s 113 not out from last season.
