Amir-Abdollahian and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares in a meeting which on Tuesday evening discussed various issues.
Expressing his satisfaction with the favorable relations between Iran and Spain, the top Iranian diplomat stressed that Iran has no restrictions over the expansion of ties between the two countries.
Referring to the historical ties between Tehran and Madrid, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for accelerating the expansion of ties in all fields and exchanging delegations in this regard.
He also invited his Spanish counterpart to visit Tehran to hold talks on various bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that Tehran is ready for the return of all JCPOA parties to the deal.
Touching upon the ongoing Israeli war against the Gaza Strip, Amir-Abdollaian hailed the position of Spain in this regard, stressing the need to end the conflict in order to restore security in the region.
“We do not welcome the escalation and expansion of the scope of the war in the region,” he said, adding that if the US stops its support for Tel Aviv, the regime would not be able to continue the war for more than several hours.
Albares, for his part, considered Iran to be a very important and influential actor in the region and welcomed the continuation of negotiations between Tehran and Madrid over their bilateral relations.
The Spanish foreign minister also considered the dialogue as the best way to resolve the differences regarding the JCPOA and declared his country’s support for the continuation of the talks regarding the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.
He also expressed concern about the consequences of the continuation of the war in Gaza and emphasized the need to stop the war and attacks on civilians and the need to observe international and humanitarian law.
He also expressed concern about the increase in tensions in the Red Sea, adding that the solution to the Palestinian crisis will affect the entire region.
Albares stressed that Madrid supports a political solution to the Palestinian issue.
In a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati, Amir-Abdollahian stressed Iran’s determination to deepen cooperation with Lebanon on bilateral, regional, and international issues.
He said that the stability and security of Lebanon affect the entire region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported peace in Lebanon.
The top Iranian diplomat hailed the role played by the Lebanese government, people, and Resistance in supporting the Palestinian nation in their current struggle against the Israeli regime.
Unfortunately, under the US support for the Zionist regime, the war against Gaza keeps going on and we are witnessing the killing of Palestinian citizens, women, and children and the genocide of Palestinians by the Zionist regime, he continued.
Referring to the US plans for a change in the situation in Gaza after the war, the Iranian foreign minister said that no one has the right to impose anything on the Palestinian nation.
The Palestinians themselves should decide on how to manage the affairs in Gaza and in the West Bank, he said.
Mikati, for his part, emphasized the importance of constructive relations between Beirut and Tehran and welcomed maintaining joint consultations with Iran.
He described the situation in Palestine and the region as worrying, saying that it is necessary to strengthen political efforts to end the war against Gaza.
Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday to participate in the programs of the Davos 2024 Summit.
In addition to participating in the programs, he is set to have various bilateral meetings with his counterparts and high-ranking officials of different countries participating in the summit, during which bilateral, regional, and international issues of interest will be discussed.
The Davos Summit is held every year by the World Economic Forum with the presence of senior public and private officials of the world in Davos, Switzerland.
