A new poll, which provides insights into Arab opinion of the Oct. 7 al-Aqsa Storm Operation, shows nearly 90 percent of Arabs view the attack by Hamas against Israel as a “legitimate resistance operation.”

The poll published by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies on Wednesday showed a majority support for Hamas. The poll was based on a sample of 8,000 respondents, men and women, from 16 Arab countries.

Arabic public opinion did not believe the attack was launched to pursue a foreign agenda. According to the survey, there was also an “Arab consensus” of 92 percent of respondents expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

A total of 69 percent expressed solidarity with Palestinians and support for Hamas, while 23 percent expressed solidarity with Palestinians but opposed Hamas.

Nearly 35 percent of respondents said the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories was the most important reason behind the operation.

Around 24 percent attributed it to defending al-Aqsa Mosque against Israeli violations and eight percent attributed it to the ongoing blockade of Gaza.

Anti-Americanism and anti-Westernism are on the rise among Arab people

The poll also signaled widespread frustration with the international community, particularly the United States, and key European countries, which have not pushed for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza.

The findings showed that the majority of respondents viewed the US position about Israeli aggression on besieged Gaza negatively.

The Israeli regime waged the war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s atrocities against Palestinians.

The United States and its Western allies have said they were still not drawing any red lines for Israel, which has killed more than 23,000 people, mostly women and children, during a yet-ongoing war against the Gaza Strip.
